Blue guitars are so under-rated. Congrats!

Irreparable is a scary word for anyone after the warranty runs out.

It might be helpful to post a link so that people know what you are talking about.

This is why I own 8 Snarks... and guess what.... sometimes I can't find one when I need it.
-
Using a capo throws me off because i rely on the fret markers to play in the right place, plus you can't bend strings with them.
-
No you can experiment with different cabs for different amps. Many cabs will sound great with the Panama, many will not. I would suggest not getting too involved with IRs until you have a good grap of preset building with the stock cab blocks.

Have you ever used your Variax sucessfully in another VDI rig (HD500x, Firehawk, etc.)? Is there any way to take your Variax to Guitar center or whatever your local chain is and try to re-create the problem using a different Helix?
-
Maybe helix native will have a different way to load IRs that dont require placing them into a setlist.
-
Maybe the Fletcher Munson curve is rearing its ugly head again. At higher volumes, Highs and lows sound more pronounced. Roll off the hi cut on the speaker block to 5 or 6 and see if that helps.

I have a pair of Sony MDRRF985RK... $100. They are good enough for practice, and I can't detect any latency. They sound good but not great.

I enjoy tinkering with presets. I could easily spend a couple hours going through all the models and trying different distortions, IRs, etc. Then rinse and repeat a few days later. This is purely for fun, with no real goal other than experiencing different sounds. So, I was thinking more IR slots would be great. I am talking in the ballpark of 500 or so. Excessive? Probably for most guys, but I wonder if there may be a substantial percentage of players like me who just like horsing around with the Helix and would prefer to not have to constantly load IRs from my laptop. Do I NEED more IR slots? Of course not. In fact, in my band I only use 5 or 6 presets all told... Maybe 10 IRs in total. But again, for fun it would be a great feature IMHO.

An open apology (PeterHamm) and call to arms

JTV. If you use a vdi cable the Helix will automatically select the parameters of the acoustic in the JTV. -

This Helix patch has gotten me the best acoustic sound from my Variax, IMHO. http://line6.com/customtone/tone/1283667/ -
Where I live I cannot play at loud volumes... neighbors are too close, so for me getting my patches in the "even-ness" ballpark is preferred over spending time tweaking at rehearsal. I use this. It was recommended by another member here and it is free. http://www.orban.com/orban/meter/ It gets me very close, so only minimal tweaking by ear is required at volume.

Those are sort of medium output PAFs. I would just try the Lester Model first before going neural with the Lester pickup and as the fellow forumites above stated add gain. The amp settings affect tone more than PUs IMHO.
-
Using it as an expression pedal, when it is not in use it is totally transparent. Will not effect tone.
-
Are you going to plug it into the expression pedal jack? I have the 25k version and it works in the expression pedal jack.

At what fret does the distortion go away on the string?
-
You have a guitar tuned to a 5 string basses low A?
-
I am surprised at the number of people who are happy with the tuner. I know 2 other guys that have Helixes(sp??), and all three of us use another tuner, despite the inconvenience (however slight), because the onboard tuner is so jumpy. That is 0 for 3.Not a great batting average.

I have always struggled with the Rec amp in Helix. I tried to dial it in again last night with a bunch of different IRs, for no more reason than my own enjoyment. I keep coming to the conclusion that the Mark IV gets me much closer to the Rec sound I hear inside my head.

Yes the lows are cut, but i usually leave them at the same freq for both rhythm and leads in the same patch.
