Pitch Shifter and Harmonizer are awful in this thing
Rocco_Crocco replied to SharkGuitar7's topic in Firehawk
I just messed around with it, and noticed it sounds much better after the amp block. Before the amp the kazoo effect is prominent, but when I placed it in the block after the amp block (right before the effects loop) it sounded fine, mix at 40%. -

Where are you locating the pitch shifter (you're using smart harmony I assume) block in relation to the amp and cab? -
The monitors and sound card are linked, then. Good to know. Of course I don't want to listen to inferior quality... I just don't want to have to crawl under my desk to un-hook the monitors from my PreSonus interface (is mounted to my desk.... its a PITA go get to it) and hook them up to my Helix every time I feel like listening to the Helix thru my monitors. I also don't want to have my Helix operate as my semi-permanent sound card because I move it around a lot, leave it at my rehearsal space frequently, etc. Maybe an A/B switch for each monitor cable is the answer... I could switch between the PreSonus and the Helix. Or, I guess I could just buy Helix Native, I guess.

SS power gets harsh once a certain threshold of volume is reached... 100 tube watts just gets louder and louder. I have a 60 watt Peavey Vypyr Tube 60 combo amp (single 12" speaker). It has two 6L6 power tubes. It could drown out a weak drummer, and doesn't get messy at full volume. That's only 60 watts into a 12" speaker. This thread is making me wish I lived far away from my neighbors and had a hundred watt Marshall half stack... bring me back to my youth. Lol. "You know, once you've had that guitar up so loud on the stage, where you can lean back and volume will stop you from falling backward, that's a hard drug to kick." - David Gilmour

Or, you could kill him and sell his gear on eBay and buy even more speakers.

I hear you, and I would love to get my hands on a Marshall power amp and a good 4x12. It's just too much for me to lug around. The OP might be different.

If I remember correctly, having the mix at 50% gives you an even mix of the original note and the harmony. Going above 50% increases the volume of the harmony note, and is not the way to go if you are looking at a simple harmony. I set mine at 35-40% and it sounds fine for harmonies. The percentages setup for line 6 stuff is counter intuitive and can be confusing. -
I think we can all agree the great solution is to get the other guitarist to play at a reasonable stage volume and for the OP to buy a pair of the Yamahas.
-
It's not so much the 4x12. 100 tube watts is the main factor here. The 4x12 doesn't help, either, though. The combination will totally drown out a drummer.

This is what I wanted to know. Thanks.

thanks for the response. I want to listen to my Helix in stereo without using a DAW or other software. I also don't want to hook my monitors directly to the helix. I am guessing that's not possible unless I get a different Interface.
-
I want to be able to monitor my Helix in stereo through my laptop. I use a AudioBox USB as an interface, but it does not produce a stereo signal when I hook my Helix up to it using the 1/4" stereo inputs. When I hook the Helix to my laptop via USB and change the soundcard in Windows to Helix, I get no sound unless I still use the 1/4" ins on the Audiobox, and I still don't get stereo separation. What am I doing wrong, or do I not have the right equipment?

Looks like Marshall is discontinuing the DSL40 combo. A bit surprising because they are pretty popular. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zKsoB2PZ3I

This is funny. NSFW, though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7WnYKo7oCo&t=87s

OP, please be advised that the firehawk 1500 is not without its flaws. Check out the firehawk forum to see about bluetooth connectivity issues and some noisiness. I have one and like it very much, but its not perfect.

100 tube watts through a 4x12 will kill a pair of yamahas in a small room. Hell, it could kill a small animal. It really depends on what the other guitarist does with his hundred watts. If he's one of those guys who likes to crank his master volume to get his sound, you have to get something bigger than a pair of yamahas. If he is reasonable and uses pedals to get his dirty sounds, than you should be ok with powered monitors.
-
You would get much better separation with a pair of speakers.
-
If his stage volume is loud you're going to have a hard time competing. Firehawk 1500 is the best for your situation if he likes his hundred watt behemoth loud. Also, you may not be interested in the modeller inside the 1500, but if your helix goes down for some reason the firehawk makes a good backup.

It's a bit of a dilemma because these two products are joined at the hip.

Does that hold full sized Helix?
-
I think of "FRFR" as just a term we use. We all understand it means "a speaker to accurately reproduce the sound of a mic'd guitar using a modeling device". If using a stricter definition, than all FRFRs would sound the same. Obviously they don't. If I were the OP I would save my money and give the QSC a chance... for at least a couple of months. I have a cheap Alto powered PA monitor/speaker. I don't expect to get my tone juices flowing with it... I just use it to monitor myself on stage, and it works well in that application and actually sounds pretty damn good (I just wish it were a bit louder).

^^ what he said. As far as backpacks go, you'll never find something that the Helix fits into that is as well made as what Line 6 offers.
