  1. Update: The Gear Page has been discussing the Placater bug and Line6's Ben Adrian says it is will be on the list to be fixed in the next update. Would have been nice if that had been posted over here as well.
  2. Bump, anyone seeing the same issue on the new Placater Dirty model?
  3. Probably more info than you wanted but includes some tips on the 'Deluxe Comp' and the 'LA Studio Comp' http://line6.com/support/topic/23488-compressors-explained/?p=178763
  4. Yes, you can assign multiple blocks to a footswitch and toggle their bypass states or parameters. Snapshots give you even more control.
  5. I am experiencing what may be a bug or quirk in the new Placater Dirty(Friedman) amp block where increasing the Drive parameter decreases the volume significantly. I am using the 'Placater Dirty' amp block with a separate '4x12CaliV30' cab block. Crank your Master up to 10 and the Ch Vol up fairly high. Now slide the Drive parameter steadily down from 10 to 0. At about "1" I am getting a significant boost in volume. As I turn the Drive up from "1" the volume steadily goes down after you pass about 1.4. In other words the volume steadily goes down as I slide the Drive back up to 10. The Drive set on 10 is more distorted(as you would expect) but noticeably lower in volume(which you would not expect) then with the Drive at 1. The volume level behavior seems abnormal across the entire Drive range. As stated the problem area seems to start at about 1 and by the time the Drive hits about 1.4 the volume starts dropping instead of increasing although the level of overdrive increases(as it should) as you turn up the Drive parameter.. The volume on this amp model is much louder with the Drive on 1 than it is with the Drive on 10. I discovered this first with my ears and then used a decibel meter to check and the volume is definitely going down as I turn the Drive up. Gives this model a bit of a muted effect on higher drive settings. Is this intentional? Is there a parameter on this model that could be causing this. Does not seem right to me. Could some folks please test this and let me know if they are getting the same results. Thanks! Btw, I have the HBE, Fat, C45, and Saturation parameters set to off for the purposes of this test.
  6. You could always repeat the update. Since it does it in place as long as you do NOT do a global reset you might be up and running again with your current presets. You probably already tried this but the first thing you want to make sure of is that the USB cable is not plugged in when you turn on the device. You can go to https://helixhelp.com/reset-options/ and try one of the reset options there that do NOT wipe your presets like the "Safe Boot Mode" and then try a restart again. Sometimes it can be a problem preset and using the reset option for "Clear Current Preset" will work but you will lose that preset permanently if you don't have it backed up. And of course, it might not help. Might be preferable to losing them all though as a next to last resort.
  7. I think Chris_Zahn's suggestion above is excellent. Use both outputs from the Helix directly to the KRKs. Alternatively use both outputs from the Helix to your KRKs instead of only one. Is the KRK sub capable of outputting a signal to both outputs(Left & Right) when only the left input is used? Not saying it can't but I don't see any specific reference to that in the KRK sub manual I checked. Which model KRK sub are you using? Does switching the output cables on the KRK sub that go to your KRK 6s speakers switch which side you are getting signal from. If so that could be your issue. Also, don't know if you are using some kind of a DAW on your MacBook. If so make sure the input channel is panned to the center as well as the output.
  8. Check the Helix first to make sure it is on firmware version 2.50. Look under an effects category like Delay. You should see a Mono, Stereo, and Legacy list. The new effects are under Legacy. You did not mention if you were not seeing the new amps and effects on the Helix or on the Editor. If you are not seeing them on the Helix you probably did not have a successful upgrade to the 2.50 firmware. If you did not see them in the Editor you need to follow Spikey's instructions above and get upgraded to the 2.51 Editor. To see the new preset(s) you will have to do backup and then a global reset of the Factory setlists and then a restore or your user setlists as documented several other places on the forum.
  9. It is a bug in the Mix parameter where the reverbs don't get wet enough on the new mono HX reverbs. Line6 is saying so themselves and has confirmed this. The bug causing the lack of reverb may be more noticeable with the high gain models due to the natural masking effect of the distortion and mid/high frequencies' EQ profile. Until the bug is fixed I would reiterate the workaround I posted above of putting the mono HX reverbs in a split/merge loop, set the 'Mix' to 100%, and using the split/merge block parameters to mix the reverb in to taste.
  10. You are probably ok. Bring up your Helix and then start the Editor. Now go to the "Help" link on the right side of the menu at the top of the screen and click "About. You will see a small graphic of your device with your firmware version listed at the top of the "About" page and the HX Editor version listed below that in the middle. They should read 2.50 at the top and 2.51 in the middle. This is assuming you installed the new version of the Editor 2.51 as per the instructions and have successfully updated to the 2.50 firmware. Now regarding the new preset(s). These are not installed automatically in this version of the Updater process. To install them you will have to do a global reset and for the Factory setlists. So it is perfectly normal even if you have upgraded properly and have the new version of the Editor not to see them. Ideally you will find someone to email you or point you to a download of the new presets. Alternatively here is the method for updating to the Factory presets. ONLY DO THIS AFTER BACKING UP YOUR DEVICE! You will want to use the menu entry in the editor on the top left, File --> "Create Backup" link to make a total backup of all your setlists, IRs, and global settings. I also do separate backups of my setlists, IRs, and presets to be thorough. Go to the helixhelp.com page and look up the options specific to your device for a reset. You will want to select the one labeled "Reset setlists to factory, Keep IRs". Use that combination and reset your device. This will wipe out your current Factory and user setlists and allow your new firmware to update the Factory and Template setlists to the latest and greatest. You should now have the latest Factory and Template setlists but you have also wiped your User setlists. Now we will proceed to restore them. After you do the reset you can open the editor and use the menu option on the top left, File --> "Restore From Backup". Use the backup you made in step #1. IMPORTANT: On the initial screen of the "Restore From Backup" page you will see an entry that says "Presets" with a small arrow. Expand that entry and you will see all of your Setlists listed separately. You will want to uncheck the two "Factory" as well as the "Templates" setlists otherwise you will overwrite the Factory and Template setlists you just updated with the ones from your backup from the previous firmware's Factory/Template presets and have to repeat this whole process again.
  11. You probably do not need to download and reinstall. If you are talking about the Line6 Updater that is normal. When you start the Updater it will show a picture of your device and your current firmware version listed. The initial screen does NOT list the version of the firmware you are upgrading to. Once you click on that picture/graphic with your current firmware version you will be presented with a list of firmware versions you can update to including 2.50. Just click on the button for version 2.50 of the firmware and let the Updater lead you through the update process. Note: If you do not see that graphic and just a blank page when you start the Updater your Updater is not connecting to the Helix. Usually because you don't have the right driver installed, have the wrong version of the Updater, have the Editor up at the same time as the Updater, don't have the device plugged in via USB, are having issues with a specific USB port, or having an issue with your operating system or computer hardware. Those are some of the most common causes anyway.
  12. Have you tried any of the reset options? https://helixhelp.com/reset-options/
  13. Word! Agree with most of this piece of your comment. Although if I can't get the expanded ideal you reference I am still happy to have a way to work the controls from the computer as it saves my back and prolongs the life of the knobs and switches on the Helix but I have made similar comments as yours above about expanding the functions on the editor. To be fair there are some but the model that has been adhered to for the most part is simply to mimic the behavior on the Helix. Thankfully lots of great new features and functionality have been added along the way to both the editor and the Helix simultaneously so I can't really complain.
  14. Looks like the OP got it right! MusicLaw posted this in another topic for an issue regarding the "Glitz" reverb. It is a post from the Helix Gear page and seems to reflect exactly what Monkeysqueak had been observing and Line6 is promising a fix in the next update. https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?posts/25811583/ By, sheer cosmic coincidence 'The Gear Page' is inaccessible at the moment so if you click on their link above at the time of this posting you won't see it. Here is the post from 'The Gear Page(TGP): Regarding the new HX reverbs, there is a bug where the mono versions sound different from the stereo versions. This is a bug that will be fixed in the next update. So while I'm in there I will also be making sure you all can get more wet. So we're sorry ahead of time to those who may have already dialed in some tones with the current settings, but rest assured the work will be done pertaining the Mix parameter only so hopefully it wont be too hard to get back to where you like it. As usual, we are all really happy to hear all of the feedback! Hats off to Line6 for getting out an early warning on this before people spend too much time designing presets with the new mono HX reverbs but why are we hearing about this second-hand from the Gear Page? Can we please get more posts from Line6 staff like DI, Frank, Ben, redirected over to the forum. I may get some pushback on this and maybe I am just missing some of the posts here but it seems that critical information as well as just great to know details from Line6 developers and product managers are getting posted much more frequently only on the Helix Gear Page site and not on their own Line6 forum. It seems increasingly like the Gear Page is the place to post questions if you want to have any hope of someone responding directly from Line6 short of opening up a ticket. Not saying they owe it to anyone to respond at all. I am extremely grateful that they bother on what is often probably their personal time and it is certainly their prerogative where they want to post. I just don't get why the Line6 forum seems to be getting neglected in this regard. There were a ton of questions yesterday regarding the new firmware rollout including the OP's for this topic with hardly a peep from Line6. His question appears to have gotten answered over on the Gear Page (assuming the post was at it appeared from a Line6 developer, did not recognize his screen name, 'SHwang_guitar', but the post looked legit). Anyway, I am not predicating this comment solely on that one post. It seems like this should be the first place these questions get answered by Line6 staff, or ideally both places to reach the largest possible audience. The saving grace are users like phil_m and silverhead who do a such a fine job of addressing questions on the forum as well as the other forum members who maintain a presence on both sites and relay critical information to the forum. Some/much of that information is not making it over here in a timely fashion though, or even at all. Causes a lot of unnecessary churn here as well as needless speculation on problems or questions that have already been addressed by Line6 staff on 'The Gear Page' site. I guess the best course of action right now is to follow both sites, I just don't understand the disconnect. If this is going to continue to be the norm let's set up an automatic push of posts by Line6 staff on "The Gear Page" site over to the forum or at least let users here know that they are going to have to watch and post to both sites if they want a better chance of getting a response from Line6.
  15. Interesting, this is the first report I personally have seen of this occurring on an LT. You should open a ticket with Line6. This may be a more widespread issue then it initially appeared and no longer appears to be specific to the HX Effects device. If I had to hazard a guess it makes me suspect even more strongly that it may be related to how specific presets may be interacting with the new Editor. Not that the presets are corrupt but that something in the code is not being handled properly. Not enough information to go on yet though. Would be helpful as mentioned earlier if you could nail this down to a specific preset causing the problem and provide that to Line6. Of course, they may be aware of it already and working on a fix as we speak.
  16. LOL, this photo could easily be used in Line6's next "Guitar Player" magazine ad campaign. Now that is a player blissing out on their Helix. No doubt they would probably photoshop in a scantily clad woman holding a bass next to you. ;)
  17. Does the backup fail or does it succeed but with an error? Sounds like this you own the new HX Effects device? If so, I think it is a known bug that some other users have been reporting. Might be worth opening a ticket with Line6. Not a great option but maybe you can get by with backing up the presets individually until they issue a fix or workaround by exporting the presets rather than a setlist. You can do them in bulk by highlighting them all and hitting the "Export" link. If that fails try grabbing half your list and retrying, rinse and repeat halving the number of presets you export until it succeeds. That may help you localize the problem to a specific preset that is causing the problem if that is even the issue. That method worked in the past for people who were having issues with corrupt presets. I think this however is more likely an issue with a bug fix that is required for the Editor or firmware specific to the HX Effects device. You may have already done this but here is a potential workaround for preset copy and paste: I am curious, for one of the presets that is failing when you try to copy and past between setlists. Are you able to export that preset and then import it in the target destination in the other setlist? That might be your best bet rather than cut & paste until a bugfix or the full-featured version of the Editor for the HX Effects comes out . Slated for release by Line6 in the Spring. Here is another link this issue has been popping up in: http://line6.com/support/topic/31555-hx-effects-faq/?hl=8606&do=findComment&comment=243580
  18. A multiple block copy & paste is a grand idea and if it doesn't already exist in Ideascale you might want to post it up. Klangmaler has the best suggestion for right now though. You can create a template preset with your favorite customized blocks and either copy the entire template, which as you point out will overwrite the preset you are copying to but can be a good spot to start from when you initially create a preset, or you can copy & paste your favorite customized blocks in one by one from the template which although more tedious will not overwrite the preset you are copying to. Sometimes it is easier to just copy the entire template and just clear the blocks you don't want or swap them for what you do rather than bringing them in one by one. Obviously depends on how many blocks you need to copy in.
  19. As VirtualGuitars pointed out you do ultimately, at least for the moment want to end up using the HX Edit 2.51 editor on your Mac with the 2.50 version of the firmware installed on the Helix. If history is any indication Line6 will end up synching up the version numbers between the editor and the firmware at some point in the future but right now they are different. You want to download and install HX Edit 2.51 which will unpack the Editor and updater on your Mac. Then you use the Updater to upgrade to the 2.50 firmware version. Sounds like you may know that already though. There are quite a few posts floating around right now from users who have problems with HX Edit 2.51 crashing on certain OS builds on certain Mac hardware. Despite the fact that you may not have pursued the ideal sequence of events or methodology when you first upgraded your software and firmware this may have nothing to do with that and may be due to the issues, as mentioned previously, that others are seeing specific to certain OS versions on certain Macs. I can tell you so far everything has worked seamlessly in Windows 10 if you also happen to have one of those laying around. Lastly, it is always a good idea to get backups and then completely uninstall the Helix software before going for a reinstall or another attempt at a firmware upgrade.
  20. Cheers, now back to the fun stuff and here's to hoping they can figure out a way to implement toe-switch capability.
  21. I'm also in the "shoulda mentioned that" camp. Some kind of test mode was the first thing I thought when I saw that screen but figured recommending a global reset and/or firmware refresh would take care of that. I am curious brue58ski, what is the significance of the 1000Hz tone?
  22. Agree, hope they implement 10 stomp mode at some point, not only for LT owners, but also so that Helix presets made using all 10 stomp assignments can be seamlessly ported over. I think a fair number of Helix owners have either already purchased the LT for a backup or are intending to.
  23. Have to agree that would be a prerequisite. :)
