An inexpensive in-line XLR phantom power blocker on each of your Helix XLR Main Outs is also a great solution. I use the Sescom XLR In line Phantom Power Blocker units.

All that matters is that you are satisfied with the sound you're getting! Use what you prefer.

You wrote: By "first position," are you referring to having Helix's FX Loop Block in the first position of Helix's Signal Path -- immediately following the Helix's Input Block? Or, have you reconfigured Helix's Input Block (from the default: "Multi") to use the FX Loop Block where your external pedal is connected? Or, something other? Please clarify.

HELIX help sought, guitar cable tip stuck, help!
MusicLaw replied to electricfactory's topic in Helix
I would not -- under any circumstances -- use the superglue method! There is too great of a risk of the adhesive getting on the interior of the jack while waiting for it to set up, and the resulting damage would only add to your headache. YMMV. Go with the drywall screw method. It works. -
Also be aware that Line 6 has run promotional discounts on Helix Native two or three times in the past year. Each time the discount was 30%! Thus, if you already own Helix Floor and would be entitled to Helix Native at $99 USD, during the discount promotional sale the discounted price would be $69 USD! Not sure if this would apply to overseas purchases. Nonetheless, you may want to wait for the next Sale (whenever that may be). Then look into purchasing a license. Or see if you might be able to encourage a buddy or family member in the US to buy it for you while on sale as a Gift. The actual deliverable is the Authorizing License Number. This is used to activate the installation of Helix Native that you have on your computer. For instance, you could download the Helix Native Free Trial and subsequently opt to fully activate it with your License Number. You would have to check with your vendor, regarding their selling a license number if you were to purchase directly from an overseas territory. Either way, if the discount applies, you could save a bit by waiting for the next sale promotion.

The smaller Focusrite units are extremely affordable and compact. Moreover, they operate entirely on USB supplied power! They perform quite well with a Laptop and Helix Native regardless if you use Heaphones, IEMs, or external (powered) speakers. The 2nd Generation units, have improved the input levels and signal to noise ratios.

HELIX help sought, guitar cable tip stuck, help!
MusicLaw replied to electricfactory's topic in Helix
If you have a 2" or 3" drywall or deck screw, you may try carefully threading it into the hole in the tip stuck in the unit. There are several YouTube vids you can watch regarding this technique. So long as you don't use anything with a wide diameter you won't damage anything if you proceed gently. -
Helix automatically sums to Mono, when you use only the L/Mono Output (and the Output Block configuration has not been disabled for the Output Jack type you are using).

The new Strobe Tuner feature should be glorious on Helix Floor's large display! Even if that were to be the only meaningful new feature in the forthcoming fw update (and DI has already indicated there is more), I will be delighted. The team at Line 6 has abundant new features and content for subsequent fw releases. When fw version 3.0 debuts (sometime in 2019) I'm confident it will bring significant new feature additions and improvements.

G10 heavy static noise when instrument is silent
MusicLaw replied to Dawylde's topic in Relay Digital Wireless
Try using a USB battery pack to power the G10 Receiver Base unit. Doing so will eliminate any A/C power supply line interference from the equation. If you still find you are encountering noise when running the receiver base unit on battery power, the source will not be from the A/C power supply. -
G10 Owners - Is it safe to leave plugged into the guitar?
MusicLaw replied to cruzfolmli's topic in Relay Digital Wireless
It will be fine. When plugged into your guitar and the small micro switch at the base of the G10 Transmitter's 1/4" Male plug is depressed, the G10 will go into Standby Mode after about 4 Mins of no audio. The battery in Standby Mode is rate for 200 hours, as I recollect. To avoid Standby Mode and have the unit actually Off, simply pull the transmitter out slightly so that the micro switch is not depressed. This is how I leave the Transmitter in the base unit (i.e not fully inserted) when not in use. In this manner, a fully charged G10 Transmitter battery will still be nearly full weeks later. -
Take a glance at the HX FX User Manual. The HX FX was released this pas Spring. Although the HX FX unit lacks the Amps, PreAmps and Cab sections as well as several other features of the full Helix and Helix LT models, the HX FX User Manual may contain info on the more recent FX features added to the line since the July 2016 Helix User Manual Rev D.

There is always the possibility that Line 6 might, at some point, opt to use the XenForo Forum Software which is what powers TheGearPage Forums. XenForo is well supported by a variety of customized Third Party software enhancements. TGP is a magnificent implementation and serves Helix Owners quite well.

Ah! Well if all four of your Signal Path Input Blocks are allocated, your remaining input option would be your FX Returns and inserting a FX Return block in your Signal Path. You would need to externally increase your Mic's signal level to Instrument Level perhaps via a small mixer (and provide phantom power, if needed) before bringing the signal into Helix's FX Return Block.

Thanks. Good info to have. I have always found that there is no substitute for using my ears to determine what sounds best. YMMV, as it is all based on what you feel best suits your taste and style, for a particular genre, and monitoring/playback system.
-
Have not encountered this. My first thought would be to investigate each of your Presets and Snapshots for any occurrence of a level change in any Block in the signal Chain including the Output Blocks. This would rule out any Preset or Snapshot configuration issue. The next thought would be to do the Power On Press and Hold FS 10 & 11 button combination to rebuild your Presets for the current firmware in your Helix. See: HelixHelp.com > Tips > Reset Options.

A Yamaha THR10C would also do the job. I have have used mine it with my Helix Floor to do precisely what you are considering. Not too loud, but very impressive in a single package. I connect the Yamaha THR10C via it's 1/8" AuxIn from the Helix Floor's Main 1/4" L & R Outs via the appropriate cable. I have also used the Helix Floor's Headphone out and it works great too. Moreover, the Yamaha THR10C can also serve as a Guitar Amp and it runs on batteries, which is the way I always power it. There are also plenty of good powered Studio Monitors that will do the job at varying price points. Consider the JBL LSR305, amongst others.

It won't! There must be a signal path for your Mike to get to Helix's Output Block. Helix's Default Input Block configuration is: "Multi". This serves only Guitar In, AuxIn, and Variax. If you are using the Mic XLR Input you will need to reconfigure a Signal Path's Input Block to use the Mic Input. If you are using a 1/4" Mic connection to one of the FX Returns you would need to insert an FX Return Block in your Signal Path, or, redefine the Input Block of the selected Signal Path to use the FX Return Block.

And, also be aware that Line 6 has run sales on their software. At least, twice in the past 10 months as I recollect. When they did, Helix Native's price for Helix Floor owners was reduced by another 30% bringing the price for Helix Native to $69 for Helix Floor owners. Plus, with the Helix Floor you already have its on-board USB Interface to use with your computer. Should you opt to explore how Helix Native might work for you Helix Native is available on a 15 Day Trial whenever you like. As Helix Native is a plug in (not a stand alone program) it requires a Host DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) program or VST Host. ProTools is not required! And, many of the DAW programs are also available for Free Trial use. There are also free VST Host programs.

In the Helix Backpack, it would be a bad idea to leave any of these three variations affixed to the Helix for the very reasons offered in the first reply! One or several bad hits or drops of the backpack and the protruding angle adapter could leverage the impact force to the chassis mounted jack. If you are not content with the stock perpendicular feed angle of the power cord, use one of the alternate adapters or angled cords. Otherwise, don't be concerned about the recessed pins in the jack.
-
I like the idea of a 90 Degree angle power cord adapter. However I would be concerned about a vertical orientation of the power cord placing under stress on the power port. I would consider a Left Angle Adapter (where the power cord would approach from outer edge of the Helix Chasis): https://www.amazon.com/Cerrxian-Female-Extension-Adapter-Receptacle/dp/B075554H9V/ref=pd_sim_23_7?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B075554H9V&pd_rd_r=8dd229e6-aa7b-11e8-a8ea-092258445276&pd_rd_w=lZV0R&pd_rd_wg=8B7zv&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=a180fdfb-b54e-4904-85ba-d852197d6c09&pf_rd_r=DW7TVV7XAFQD96M4X2PP&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&psc=1&refRID=DW7TVV7XAFQD96M4X2PP If the Helix's USB port, L6 Link and S/PDIF ports, and perhaps MIDI did not need to be connected, this Right Angle Adapter might suffice: https://www.amazon.com/Cerrxian-Female-Extension-Adapter-Receptacle/dp/B06Y25VX69/ref=pd_sim_23_3?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B06Y25VX69&pd_rd_r=8dd229e6-aa7b-11e8-a8ea-092258445276&pd_rd_w=lZV0R&pd_rd_wg=8B7zv&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=a180fdfb-b54e-4904-85ba-d852197d6c09&pf_rd_r=DW7TVV7XAFQD96M4X2PP&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&psc=1&refRID=DW7TVV7XAFQD96M4X2PP

Depending on the type of material you monitor, your large Yamaha sub can substantially enhance any size monitor system as it will handle most of the heavy lifting of lower frequencies below about 120Hz. Absent the sub and dependent upon your budget, the 8" class is what I'd go for. With the sub, the 5" should sound great. FWIW, I also run a large Yamaha Sub with one set of my main monitors. Nonetheless, during the 2016 year end Holiday sales I had sets of the Yamaha HS8, JBL LSR 308 and JBL LSR305 to compare A/B/C for several weeks. I kept the JBL LSR 308. Everything else went back. Subsequently, when even better deals were available I grabbed a pair of the JBL LSR 305 and JBL LSR 310S Sub. If the HS8's were as reasonably priced as the JBL LSR308 I would likely have gone with the Yamaha. However, I did not feel they justified the additional expense for the types of material I favor. If you can get a great deal on the HS8 or the HS5 grab em. Otherwise, give the JBLs a serious consideration and use the savings for more gear. Either way you can't go wrong. YMMV. Listen to your ears and your wallet, as you are the one who must live with both.
-
The HS5 are fine speakers. They'll sound even better paired with the Sub.

@LaurensDR, try redownloading the entire Software package HX Edit for your computer version (PC or Mac) from the Line 6 site to assure that you have a clean non-corrupted download. Then try running this fresh download of HX Edit and the related software. Hopefully this will resolve the problems.
