  1. Looks like pod plus full range Amp since it has tweeters in it.
  2. The original piezos were spring loaded up against the strings on my Variax 500. The Ghost Piezos that I now have on it are potted in the plastic bridge pieces. I don't know how the piezos in the 700 were loaded against the strings - did not ever see a 700 up close. IMO the grounding through the bridge / strings is a bad design that causes lots of problems. That is your signal path!
  3. I agree on the technique thing! I think the reason I was immediately happy with my JTV69S with 2.0 on it is that I have had a Variax 500 since they came out. It too responds best to light playing technique and I had learned that over the years. I really like my 699S! It has improved my playing to lighten up too. I play the acoustic models a lot and there it's critical. It sounds like crap if you play it hard like you can on a real acoustic guitar but it sounds great if you finesse it.
  4. Sounds like the tuner switch may be stuck in the on position.
  5. My guess is that this problem is due to not driving the digital level to zero DC on all of the models (Going to the VDI). When you switch models the level shifts and gives a pop. Line6 should fix this! I am sure they are aware of it and I am also sure that they know how to cure it. By the way my older 500 Variax did this when switching to the Acoustic bank the first time only after power up. You could then switch away and back and it did not pop.
  6. You do need to get a proper Variax VDI cable. Do not gig with an Ethernet cable. Yes it is electrically the same but the connectors won't hold up and may damage your gear. A good cable has good connectors with sleeves that lock in place and protect the Ethernet plug. There is a guy in this forum that makes custom cables and all of the responses have been very positive. The Line6 cable not worth it. It's too stiff and not at all like a standard guitar cable.
  7. Look at the strat wiring diagram above. The pickups can only be wired in parallel. The shields are all tied together.
  8. Drag and drop the file into the Edit program (into a preset slot) and it will work.
  9. Yes. The Variax mags can either go out the 1/4 inch as analog signals or out the VDI as digital signals. The VDI supplies power for that to work. The nice thing about the 1/4 inch is that the guitar need no power to send the Mags out the 1/4 inch connection. You can still use the mags this way without the battery installed. (or if it happens to go flat on you)
  10. I personally like Line6's decision on this. We can decide how to use the available DSP power. Yes it has limits but so does everything else in the world. I can only fit so much stuff in my car but I can decide what to leave behind... :-)
  11. That's assuming that they have room for them in Flash. The HD models may take up more flash space than the old ones. They never came out with additional amp models for the last generation of Pods either.
  12. Not true. I am pretty sure that most guitars like Strat wire the pickups in parallel when you select two pickups (positions 2 and 4).
  13. The Mags are digitized when using the VDI cable. They are not when using the 1/4 inch and no battery. The Variax electronics are unpowered and there is a relay that sends out the Mag signal when there is no battery and you are using the 1/4 inch.
  14. Theory is not fact. There is no way that Yamaha has had time to take over any kind of production for Line6. Not that they won't but the deal probably has not even been approved yet. I still find it very hard to believe that any guitar factory would ship a guitar with such an obvious defect.
  15. Other option would be to use a headphone Amp to drive your low impedance headphones.
  16. Yes. You get a green on the USB side and red on the Variax side until you plug in and turn on your Variax then that side goes green.
  17. You are wasting your breath yelling here. Line6 doesn't listen here. This is a USER forum not a LINE6 problem solving forum. You will get suggestions and help here so don't yell at us!
  18. What updates?? Line6 never said they would add new amp models to the HD series.
  19. Try flashing again. Your flash process did not successfully complete.
  20. Send it back then if you are so unhappy! This is a users forum not a line6 company forum so your nasty threats are going to go unanswered here.
  21. The 20 Hz low cut must be for playing a bass guitar. Way too low for a standard guitar.
  22. That is the new style USB interface that ships with the JTV. I have that one and it works fine. I also have the old one that came with Workbench - bought it for my old Variax 500 many years ago.
  23. You should have two green lights on the interface. Sounds like it is not working. It's probably the interface and not the Variax.
