excellent effort. I think you came close with the first one but the other two not so much. Still, until we see the signal path we can't really sat how they compare head to head. Nice job tone matching though.

It's already been done... "Romeo Foxtrot, shall we dance?"

If you are truly happy with your current setup and just wish to incorporate effects, check out the M-9 and M-13 as they may be much more suited to your application and easier to setup for what you want to do.

I could see them doing it but not at a decent price point. I've built a few cabs before but to get a true FRFR takes a lot of design work and matching of drivers to cab size. Then you have to cram a decent amp inside and deal with all the heat and vibration issues... Of course Line 6 would have to incorporate L6 link and DSP to match their other gear so I would expect it to be more than an L2 by the time they are done. Here is an idea. Buy a pair of Alto TS110a speakers and build 1X12 guitar cabs and mount them securely inside. It looks like a regular guitar cab but sounds like a good FRFR speaker. Make it open back for ease of installation and removal Now you have best of both worlds for little money. I can build a pair of cabs like that for under $100 in parts including tolex and grill cloth... ;) Here is a quick mockup with a TS110a... fits perfectly in a 1X12 cab shell. Cab ends up 22 x 18 x 14, about 35lbs total just like most others. Nobody would ever know... https://www.tinkercad.com/things/1gtdt7N5rlg-frfr-shell-cab

depending on what you want to do you can assign different parameters for the same FX to different controllers. Example, analog delay w/mod ON/OFF to a FS, time to Exp1, mix to Exp2, feedback to JTV volume, depth to JTV tone.

The DT links only to POD channel A amp. When you turn off Amp A in the POD, the DT defaults to its internal channel B. I am guessing the DT volume is at zero? You can try putting a volume pedal in front of the channel A amp block and linking it to channel B amp on the same FS. With amp B off, leave the volume pedal off so the signal goes through amp A. With amp B on, the volume pedal comes on but set to zero and amp A stays on. Now the signal is blocked through amp A but goes through amp B and the DT stays linked to amp A and functions normally by L6 link. You should know that the DT topology will stay linked to POD channel A no matter what model is in POD channel B... Sample patch for you: http://line6.com/customtone/tone/1102930/

We didn't stop until blind A/B tests could fool our own employees.
radatats replied to CipherHost's topic in Helix
I just think the feature list, the routing options, the dual processors, along with the new modeling which I have no doubt exceeds the POD is worth it. I have wanted to go full FRFR for a while now but couldn't let the DT go. This convinced me. I will keep the 500 as a backup until I am absolutely certain but I already know how that will work out... Helix is my new Dream Rig... No way do they go to all this trouble for no audible improvement. Remember the doubters when the HD was announced? Well, was it an improvement? I can't wait... -
and so the never ending quest for the elusive "true bypass"goes on unfettered by unfortunate brushes with reality...

no, really I misunderstood for sure. You need a regular cable from POD FX send to Mustang guitar in, 2 regular cables from Mustang L+R FX send to POD FX L+R return and 2 regular cables from the POD L+R 1/4 outs to the Mustang L+R FX return. Seriously though, just connect the POD 1/4 outs to the Mustang L+R FX return and use it as a powered cab for the POD. Or skip the POD and just play with the Mustang. Too much hassle the other way for no real benefit...

I think you are making it too hard! Enjoy your new amp by itself first! as to your issue, the Replitone needs a TRS plug for a stereo signal while the Mustang separates each channel to its own FX send/return, You need two insert cables to make it work. L+R Mustang send to Repitone return, Replitone send to L+R Mustang return. you need 2 of these for stereo hookup: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/STP202

Looking forward to hearing how this goes. I am looking hard at a pair of those with maybe the Alto sub to augment. Peavey just came out with the Dark Matter 112 as well... at $250 they look pretty nice too...

I love being able to control HD500 parameters with my Variax tone and volume knob and look forward to doing it with Helix too. What I really want is to be able to control the Variax tone, volume and even tunings, models and pickups with the POD or Helix either with the expression pedal or with a foot switch. Using the exp pedal to control guitar volume has a totally different effect than changing amp volume or drive but for me its a PITA to get it consistently right. And being able to hit a FS to change tuning and guitar model or pickup would be amazing! http://line6.ideasca...508?submitted=1 Vote it up!

OK, its up on Ideascale, using the Helix to control the Variax. Vote it up! I have a feeling they could do it... ;) "I love being able to control HD500 parameters with my Variax tone and volume knob and look forward to doing it with Helix too. I kinda wish they would do it the other way around too, let the expression pedal adjust Variax volume and tone... I'll have to throw that up on Ideascale...

I don't want to be proliferous but true bypass makes no sense on this unit. It does far too many other things besides simple effects. I'm not voting.

meh... I re-read the posts and while I shouldn't have made it personal, for which I apologized, he has no love for Line 6 products and makes no effort to hide that. How anyone can say Helix is a tone bust based off the two videos out there I don't get. Yet bought a Kemper based off a couple crappy YouTube vids... oh well, as CipherHost said, in my own defense I was Evil back then... lol

If I misstated on Elantric I apologize... maybe I misread the tone of his posts... I didn't mean to start any board wars that's for sure. I was just surprised at the overall level of vehemence against Line 6 and some of the absurd negative posts about L6 gear in general and Helix in particular on the other boards. Some of us on this board are pretty enthusiastic about our gear but nowhere near the fanboy status of many of those Fractal users...

nothing hard about it. plug either one of your POD's 1/4 outs into the FX Return on your amp and you are good to go. Of course there are all kinds of things to consider inside your POD but that all comes with time and practice. READ the Advanced Guide! You may want to play with the output modes to see what sounds best to you. You should also experiment with both full amp and cab models and preamp models both with cab enabled and cab off. Far too much to outline in a post but you have the gear now, so get to it! Ask specific questions as you go and there are lost of guys on here willing to help but PLEASE read the manuals first! It's so much easier for us to help you when you have an idea what we are telling you...

I mentioned this before and it gets a lot of positive reviews from folks using modelers. I am getting a pair myself as I get rid of some other gear first... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/928101-REG/alto_truesonic_ts110a_ts110a_active_600_watt.html

You are right, these devices coupled with a FRFR are really an "amp" but the important difference is the physical cab and speaker, not so much the actual amplifier portion. Well, the next level of iteration is already here but it is a big jump in price too. Line 6 just announced the Helix and Fractal has the AxeFX II+ and there is the Kemper profiler. $1500-$3000. If you can, get to a store and try out the 500 and the Firehawk through a FRFR unit. You will have to just see for yourself which fits your needs and budget best. At least with a good FRFR, you just get a new multieffects board when you want to change it up and still use the same FRFR...

so far you have bought two all in one modeling amps. They are both good at what they do but are not built to work with other modelers since they already have all that on board! A real guitar cab and speaker will never be the best all around solution for a modeler like the HD500 or Firehawk. You really need a FRFR speaker to take advantage of all its capabilities. As Pianoguyy says, with your current amp, neither one is right for you. IMHO. However, if you pick up a good FRFR like the Alto TS110a to go with either the POD or Firehawk I think you will be amazed at the difference. Now it just becomes a decision between having the added features of the POD like dual amp paths vs having the Firehawk's BT editing and cloud access to ready made tones. I got the impression from your post you prefer a sort of plug and play type unit over one you need to put a lot of effort into so on that basis I would point you towards the Firehawk. Hope that helps...
