I totally agree. I have been setting my POD up to work with my Crate V50 in 4CM and I can pretty much get everything with time and effort. I had to get the signal levels right first or it just didn't sound right no matter what. Once that was right other things began to fall into place. If you are too weak or too strong hitting the amp you tend to compensate in other areas that diminish your tones. I can pretty much match the cranked drive channel using distortion effects on the clean channel. That tells me they are doing what they are supposed to do. I also notice subtle differences between combo power and studio direct that I wasn't hearing before. I like the combo direct better. I also have some great patches using the POD preamps that just kick lollipop.

using HDEdit, go to the Controllers tab and choose your effect, under FS ASSIGN choose Exp Toe Switch. You will have to press down hard on the toe of the pedal to activate it. You may also need to calibrate the expression pedal. http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/pod/pod-hd500-hd500x/pod-hd500xhd500-pedal-calibration-r161

one thing I noticed is they really depend on the amp you are using them with. I didn't like them much either at first but then I was trying them into a cranked Treadplate or P75. I have since picked up an all tube Crate V50 2 channel 1X12 combo. Using the 4 cable method I have a new respect for these effects into the CLEAN channel on this amp. I don't even need them with the DIRTY channel. And really, kind of made me rethink how I was using them with the POD. If you already have a cranked Treadplate it doesn't make a lot of sense to stuff an overdrive in front of it. With the real thing, you would generally put these pedals into a fairly clean amp to get that overdriven tone. When I put them in front of a clean Blackface they sound much more like they should in the DT. Just a thought, give it a try and it may save you a ton of grief...

Marketing Overhype
radatats replied to silverhead's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
very cool... its a blutooth iOS pick that is able to play any song in your library... unfortunatley, there is no Android pick yet. supposedly they are woking on one... -
don't confuse the standalone midi configuration capability with actual control like with the POD. You only get to select the amp, cab and mic, and topology. You cannot control the tone stack or volume this way. And they should be updated separately because they will each have their own separate firmware updates...
-
You will be fine with that head and cab. You probably won't be needing to have the head cranked all the way up anyways... especially if you are also feeding into the PA.

nope, its just a bug in the way the website displays it. can't tell until you open it up what it is.

Modeling Amp Or Multi Effects Processor?
radatats replied to bbgun77's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
simply put... it won't sound the same. The 4X12 is a closed backcab and obviously much more speaker area to push more air where as the Spider 75 combo is open back and in a small area like a man cave the sound can breathe a little without having to be cranked as much. I can't truly say you won't be happy with the 150 half stack, its just overkill for a smaller space. As far as stereo for music playback, you do know the Spider has an mp3/CD jack right? just plug your music right in and play right through your rig. In the end its all up to you. No point in taking a beating on the cabs but if you can get out clean, it may make sense to revaluate your options based on all the input so far... Keep us posted! -
probably have to calibrate the pedal. Follow these instructions... http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/pod/pod-hd500-hd500x/pod-hd500xhd500-pedal-calibration-r161

Modeling Amp Or Multi Effects Processor?
radatats replied to bbgun77's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
I'm not looking to put a damper on anything BUT... unless your man cave is the size of a small parking garage two 4X12 cabs is not going to be ideal... you will never be able to turn your amp up anywhere near optimal and you will be needing Obamacare to pay for the hearing aids real quick... Perhaps your idea to flip them is a good one. There was great info from the Colonel above. I won't add to it except to say you should consider balance between your guitar/effects/amp and whatever you plan on playing your backing music through. For instance if you are using your computer to play music, consider a nice pair of active monitors or powered PA speakers. Now you can plug the POD HD500(x) into the computer via USB and the speakers into the POD and you have a really nice guitar rig that also doubles as an awesome music system. You will be able to jam with your favorite bands mixed together through the same speakers and it will sound awesome as opposed to trying to match a big amp and a pair of 4X12 cabs to a regular stereo... Then again, if you don't mind getting or using Apple products, cosider the AMPLIFi (75 or 150). It can also play your music and has the amp modeling and effects built in too. Perhaps not as top of the line as the HD500 but may be just what the doctor ordered for what you want to do... However, if you don't have an iOS product to control it forget about it... -

Bypassing Compressor For Delay And Stomp Box Theory
radatats replied to videoman77's topic in POD HD
so revenge is so much sweeter then... keep working on a great tone and when you are lip locking the chicks and sipping a cocktail while they are still trying to get their pedals dialed in they might just begin to waver... Believe me, you can match pretty much anything they can put together if you really work at it... -
Bypassing Compressor For Delay And Stomp Box Theory
radatats replied to videoman77's topic in POD HD
It doesn't matter whether you are digital or analog, if you compress the signal early on, your delay will be working on that compressed signal. What you are seeing or think you are seeing with the pedals is a type of 4 cable method where the compressors, distortions and overdrives are in front of the preamp and the delays and reverbs are between the preamp and the power section. Even in that setup the delay is working on the previously compressed signal. To me a compressor works best in the very beginning before the signal hits the distortion or amps but it can go anywhere. Just understand that it will sound very different when placed at other points in the signal chain. Typically, delays and reverbs are the last signals in your chain, they tend to sound best there. But as stated above, try moving them around and see what they sound like for yourself. Try the delay before the preamp/amp block and the compressor after the reverb. Find out for yourself what it does to the sound. You may stumble on something useful or you may find things you want to avoid. Stop worrying about digital vs analog. Treat everything inside the POD as if it was the real thing at your feet. It's just a hell of a lot easier to move around and configure. If you use your ears and a little bit of time and patience, you will find some pretty amazing tones can be achieved with this rig. Avoid the temptation to turn everything up to 10, especially with compressors, and just spend time learning what each effect brings to the table so you can add a little here and there to get what you want. Bottom line, don't worry about what you don't have, have fun with what you do have right in front of you! -
Isolate Acoustic Sound Via L2t
radatats replied to u182155's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
You can also do the same thing within a patch so you don't have to change patches to do it. Try adding a Volume pedal as the first block set to zero. Assign to a FS and turn it off. Now in the off position your signal passes to the DT50 and if you turn it on it will mute the DT50. Adding a FX loop with nothing connected should do the same thing too... -
That's what I mean... these companies aren't dumb, they know the size of the market and they surely have the programming capability. But from the start there has been no guitar or recording apps for Android. There has to be another fundamental reason why nobody, not just Line 6, nobody is putting one out...
-
not worth it in my opinion. What DT25 do you have? I have the head and can easily power 2 2X12 cabs, should be more than enough especially if you mike it or send a feed to the PA. You may gain a little clean headroom at volume but is that worth $700-800? Even with the combo you can still add another cab and grow your sound...

I think all of the above... certainly way beyond any advice level I could give. Maybe some of the other "gurus" can help out... Regardless, I just love looking at the custom boards those guys create! Talk about G.A.S...
-
Yeah, the OP talked about latency but I never found any either. I just liked the fact that it freed up a block by not using the FX loop and the associated noise and signal level issues. Glad it works, mput had me worried maybe I explained it wrong...

Sounds like you want a specific custom solution. Take a look at theses guys, their phone number is on there. If it can be done, they can do it. https://www.facebook.com/NiceRackNYC

Is that with 4CM-4 or 4CM-5? I don't know why it shouldn't work for you if it works for me... let me know if you want to try to work it out...

hahahahaha! busted... it's an unused storage tub pulled from my kids Ikea wall unit...

What you want is perfectly doable with the 500X or the Pro. Set up your FX chain inside the POD however you want using no amp modeling and you will be able to pass that signal out the left and right outputs, one to each of your amps. You can also place any of your current pedals in the POD's FX loop. If you want to send the exact same signal to each amp, set the mixer as the last block in the chain and pan both sides to center. If you want to send a completely different set of effects to each pan hard left and right and that way each signal would be completely separate. For instance a clean signal with delay and compression to one amp and a heavy signal with distortion or overdrive to the other. This will open up a whole new level of possibilities for you...
