  1. I don't want or need a power switch that could get bumped into the off position in the middle of a song. I already secure the power connector so that doesn't happen. The switch would be of more use to people that don't gig with them, for many of us that gig with these things the missing power switch can be seen as a useful feature. -Max
  2. I like my FRFR so much that I am selling my tube amp and speaker cab. -Max
  3. I think Brian Adams was a strat guy back then. If you don't have single coils you won't ever get all the way there. -Max
  4. I don't play high gain at all and this guide was still very helpful! -Max
  5. As far as volume is concerned, I have no problems using one L2 for rehearsals and gigs. These things can get LOUD. I put mine on a speaker stand about head height because I don't have any ears in my knees. Being up at head height makes a big difference in how well I can hear myself onstage. I went from a 100 watt tube head and 2 X 12 speaker cab and I have no problems getting just as loud at a gig with the L2 as I did with the tube amp. -Max
  6. I experienced a static noise from one of my speaker this weekend. It turned out to be one of the cables feeding the audio signal to the speaker. The problem was solved as soon as I replaced that cable. -Max
  7. My wife and were talking this weekend and she has given me the OK to purchase the MD20 mixer. We are in the process of upgrading our P.A. system with the L2 and L3 speakers. No one has one in stock local. It seems that Guitar Center is no longer stocking the stagesource gear (only special order, not in stock). Do you all have a preferred dealer in the U.S.? Is there anything I should be thinking about before buying this mixer? -Max
  8. I use the Line6 L2m speaker and one big advantage for me is the L6 Link digital connection between the HD500 and the speaker. Only the Line 6 speaker has this connection. -Max
  9. I can't help with what makes people unhappy with the HD500. I can only add another data point for people who use and are happy with the HD500. I use my HD500 for live performance gigging and about once in a blue moon to record with. I have the Dream Rig of Variax JTV -> POD HD500 -> L2m Speaker. I play music from the 60s and 70s, no high gain or metal stuff in our sets. My patches tend to be pretty simple. For the most part an amp a tube screamer and some reverb, and a boost at the end for solos (A few songs require effects like a flanger or phaser). Even with my simple patches I have learned a lot and have made them sound better with advice I gleaned from this forum. -Max
  10. I have watched some bands playing 60s and 70s stuff with tons of gain and the tone completely obscured by a whooshing wall of modulation effects (totally ignoring the original tune). I always figured those guys had just bought a new multi-effects unit and haven't figured out how to use it yet. -Max
  11. It is just like spices when cooking. Just because you have 30 different spices doesn't mean you should try to use them all in every dish. I play in a 60s and 70s cover band and I think 70% of the stuff we play is guitar with no modulation or delay effects at all. -Max
  12. I will give this a try this weekend. I do find my current acoustic patch needs some tweaking anyway. -Max
  13. I have found that it is nearly impossible to get a good acoustic guitar sound out of an electric guitar amp. There is just way to much shaping of the signal in a guitar amp when you really want something full range and flat response. You can tweak until you can get something that you might be able to live with but if you want it to sound like an acoustic guitar you will probably need a separate amp. I tried this for a while and used a JBL EON for acoustic for a many years and have recently switched to a Line6 L2m speaker in the Dream Rig configuration with the HD500 and JTV guitar. -Max
  14. My Line 6 HD500 power supply case broke in half. I don't even know how it happened. I went to plug it in and found it in two pieces. I used epoxy and glued it back together and it has been working fine ever since. -Max
  15. I have yet to find a third party power supply that provides 9V DC at 3 amps. I found many that claimed to be for the HD500 varying from 1.5 to 2.4 amps. I wouldn't risk it. -Max
  16. I don't care about the high gain amps, but the other two look good to me. I will buy them when they are available. -Max
  17. I have the JTV 59 and this is the first guitar I have owned that feels like it was made for my hands (I own about 25 electric guitars). I have a thing about electric guitars and I have not even looked at another guitar since I got the JTV 59. I will probably buy another one and start getting rid of some of other guitars that I just don't play. -Max
  18. I have been gigging with one L2m for more than 6 months and haven't seen this issue, but it sure sounds like you are playing a lot louder than I do. The gigs I do consist of 4 45 minute sets, so it does get used for a long duration. -Max
  19. Don't scoop the mids unless you want to disappear in the band mix. Guitar is mostly a mid range instrument, don't try and compete with your bass player for the low end, the bass player will always win. -Max
  20. Shut up and take my money! -Max
  21. I played in cover bands back in the 80s and saw a lot of them too. We never were able to cop all the tones from the records. We did the best we could with an amp and a couple of pedals, Most cover bands I saw back then ended playing all their songs with 3 or 4 main tones. -Max
  22. Horses for courses. I will probably never sell a couple of my old tube amps. However I am done taking them to gigs. I can get tones I am very happy with using the Dream Rig and It is a lot less heavy to carry. -Max
  23. Hey cruisinon2, I think you are referring the Rockman headphone device. They also produced several modules for use with a real amp, and I used to use one in my live rig back in the 80s. It was still a very compressed distortion tone on both devices if I remember right. Seemed like there was very little dynamic range, all notes come out at the same volume. -Max
  24. I had one of those back in the 80s. If I remember right that distortion tone was seriously compressed, almost zero dynamic range. -Max
  25. I think your biggest hurdle here is the output mode. You can only use one output mode at a time. Set it for Studio/Direct and it will use all the power amp, speaker, and mic emulation and should sound pretty good into the P.A. , However it will most likely not sound so good into a regular guitar amp. Set it for Combo/Stack and it will disable power amp, speaker and mic emulations and will not sound good direct to P.A. but should sound good into a guitar amp. -Max
