I use the Line6 L2 speaker live and it works great for me. With the speaker on a stand I can hear myself better than I ever have on stage. -Max

Did they model the 5150 II?

The funny thing I remember about learning songs before the internet was getting some lyrics wrong and trying so hard to figure out what words they are singing in that one part. Looking back I am sure it led to some humorous lyrics. The only one I really remember off the top of my head is the song Blood and Roses by the Smithereens. I remember our bass player singing a line "and she dressed up like high school" when the actual lyric was s"he dressed as black as coal". Good Times :-) -Max

I saw a pretty good explanation of how those setting work, and it seems that the major effect is on how the amp feels and responds to picking attack. I wish I could find that and provide a link, but I think I saw it these forums. -Max

I am getting tones nearly identical to records from the 60s and 70s with the Variax JTV strat emulation with the HD500 Fender Twin amp. The other guitarist in our band who is an analog and tube fanatic, has told me he wishes he could get that sound out of his rig. The only effects I am using are a tube screamer in front of the amp and some reverb after the amp. -Max

The JC120 amp was one that I thought was really missing from the original HD500 compliment of amps. Now I can go cop some of those 80s tones from bands like The Fixx. -Max

Flock of Seagulls probably used that JC120 amp, lots of the New Wave bands used that amp. Yup I realize it was joke but hey, JC120 right? -Max

Robbie61, I used to see a lot of guys in original bands using the 5150. I only thought one guy really got good tone from his that I saw and I had to ask him what amp he was using because it didn't sound like the other 5150s I had heard. It sure sounds like each version of the 5150 sounds different also. I also thought it interesting that a Van Halen amp is used for heavy metal, I never thought of Eddie's tone as being metal. -Max

In defense of the 5150. It was one of the few amps I asked a guy about after his set. This guy had that amp dialed in and was not using too much gain. I do however remember a lot of people hating on the 5150 do to the can of bees sound. -Max

I have posted this a few times before. When the 5150 was released the term "can of bees" was used to describe the sound of the amp by many. I think that means that they probably modeled an original. -Max

I think the bitterness and attitude you show off in your post has turned everyone off from taking you serious. Ever heard the maxim about catching more flies with honey than vinegar? -Max

If I get some time this weekend I will try and load up this set list and create a simple excel file that lists the amp, guitar, and effects in each patch. I am sure it will be useful to others. -Max

Layla was recorded using tweed champ amps, so there must be some good tone to be found in those little monsters. -Max

I hear you Tboneous. I rarely see people creating tones for the HD500 or even wanting to create tones that I am into. I guess it also happens that all of those guys are tremendous players and even with their basic tone I would never sound like them. -Max

Try the amp/line switch it will change the strength of the signal hitting your power amp. You might be clipping the input of your power amp. -Max

A simple Excel file that lists what amp, cab, guitar, and effects for each preset would be helpful. I think the parameters of each effect would be overkill. -Max

Ok, I guess it is up to the user community to document these. I know I don't have the time to go through all of them. I might load them up someday to play around and see if any of them give me a good starting point to develop a tone. -Max

Silverhead, I am sure you weren't being condescending on purpose, I must not have written my responses well. My request was simply and precisely for a list of what those presets contain, not a file I have to download and load into HD edit, and extract all the information one preset at a time, which I can't do from work where I am at for most of the day. I actually didn't think it was unreasonable to think that Line 6 has actually documented these presets or set lists in a text format somewhere that users can access them. So are you telling me that Line 6 doesn't have a document that describes the presets on file anywhere, or is this information just not for public dissemination? I work in software development and the thought that something like these presets and set lists not being documented is mind boggling. -Max

I didn't really want to have to download the package just to see if there was anything that interested me. So far I have not used a single preset tone that comes with HD500, so I doubt that I would end up using any of them anyway. I do however use a JTV variax for gigging. -Max

Can anyone post information on what this new Variax set list contains? From the name it appears to be preset tones using a Variax, but I would love to see some details on what they are. What amps and Variax modeled guitars, etc.. -Max

Rolling back the firmware if I discover a problem in the middle of a gig is just not feasible. If I just used the thing for playing at home I would have no problem with updating now, but I depend on this thing for a gigs. -Max

I just bought a used JTV 69 from a local guy and it has the older firmware as he liked the strat sounds in the older firmware better. I bought it as a backup to my JTV 59. My question is am I going to have any issues updating the firmware for this guitar? Does he have to unregister the guitar or anything before I attempt to update the firmware? I asked him if he registered the guitar after he bought it and he said that he didn't think so. I asked him if he could go to his Line6 account and somehow indicate that he sold this instrument, but he seemed reluctant to do it and I think he probably won't do it. -Max

OK, guys get your HD500 units updated and start testing this update for me. :P I will wait at least a month for any possible bugs to fall out I think. -Max
