  1. It is just like spices when cooking. Just because you have 30 different spices doesn't mean you should try to use them all in every dish. I play in a 60s and 70s cover band and I think 70% of the stuff we play is guitar with no modulation or delay effects at all. -Max
  2. I will give this a try this weekend. I do find my current acoustic patch needs some tweaking anyway. -Max
  3. I have found that it is nearly impossible to get a good acoustic guitar sound out of an electric guitar amp. There is just way to much shaping of the signal in a guitar amp when you really want something full range and flat response. You can tweak until you can get something that you might be able to live with but if you want it to sound like an acoustic guitar you will probably need a separate amp. I tried this for a while and used a JBL EON for acoustic for a many years and have recently switched to a Line6 L2m speaker in the Dream Rig configuration with the HD500 and JTV guitar. -Max
  4. My Line 6 HD500 power supply case broke in half. I don't even know how it happened. I went to plug it in and found it in two pieces. I used epoxy and glued it back together and it has been working fine ever since. -Max
  5. I have yet to find a third party power supply that provides 9V DC at 3 amps. I found many that claimed to be for the HD500 varying from 1.5 to 2.4 amps. I wouldn't risk it. -Max
  6. I don't care about the high gain amps, but the other two look good to me. I will buy them when they are available. -Max
  7. I have the JTV 59 and this is the first guitar I have owned that feels like it was made for my hands (I own about 25 electric guitars). I have a thing about electric guitars and I have not even looked at another guitar since I got the JTV 59. I will probably buy another one and start getting rid of some of other guitars that I just don't play. -Max
  8. I have been gigging with one L2m for more than 6 months and haven't seen this issue, but it sure sounds like you are playing a lot louder than I do. The gigs I do consist of 4 45 minute sets, so it does get used for a long duration. -Max
  9. Don't scoop the mids unless you want to disappear in the band mix. Guitar is mostly a mid range instrument, don't try and compete with your bass player for the low end, the bass player will always win. -Max
  10. Shut up and take my money! -Max
  11. I played in cover bands back in the 80s and saw a lot of them too. We never were able to cop all the tones from the records. We did the best we could with an amp and a couple of pedals, Most cover bands I saw back then ended playing all their songs with 3 or 4 main tones. -Max
  12. Horses for courses. I will probably never sell a couple of my old tube amps. However I am done taking them to gigs. I can get tones I am very happy with using the Dream Rig and It is a lot less heavy to carry. -Max
  13. Hey cruisinon2, I think you are referring the Rockman headphone device. They also produced several modules for use with a real amp, and I used to use one in my live rig back in the 80s. It was still a very compressed distortion tone on both devices if I remember right. Seemed like there was very little dynamic range, all notes come out at the same volume. -Max
  14. I had one of those back in the 80s. If I remember right that distortion tone was seriously compressed, almost zero dynamic range. -Max
  15. I think your biggest hurdle here is the output mode. You can only use one output mode at a time. Set it for Studio/Direct and it will use all the power amp, speaker, and mic emulation and should sound pretty good into the P.A. , However it will most likely not sound so good into a regular guitar amp. Set it for Combo/Stack and it will disable power amp, speaker and mic emulations and will not sound good direct to P.A. but should sound good into a guitar amp. -Max
  16. I started out going from the HD500 into the power amp in of a Line 6 Spyder valve and the into a 2 X12 speaker cab. It sounded pretty good, but still colored the sound enough that I couldn't quite nail some of the classic rock tones I was going for. I am also now over 50 and the less gear I have to take to a gig the better. I am now using the L2m speaker with the HD500 and my Variax guitar. It now sounds closer to the tones I have been trying to nail. I put the speaker on a tripod stand so I can hear myself better than ever before. I can switch from acoustic to electric with footswitch. I don't have to turn up too loud to get the tubes in the power amp cooking to sound good. There is more powers in the L2m than I will ever need for a gig as well. I play 60s and 70s classic rock and perform about twice a month. -Max
  17. I think as long as you can find something that is full range and flat response you should get good sound. I do however have some major love for the L2 speakers (I own three of them). -Max

    500X and L2T

Make sure you POD is set to Studio/Direct mode and also makes sure you are running the most recent POD firmware or the master volume may have no effect when connected via Link. -Max
  19. The strat models into the Fender Twin for the win. This reproduces sounds I hear on a ton of records. -Max
  20. I sure they hope they add the ability to maximize the HD edit application. it is very annoying that the current app has such a small maximum window size. -Max
  21. I am with Zaphod, I don't get any disconnected feeling playing through the L2m speaker with the HD500. Before I bought the L2m I was running my HD500 into the power amp of a Line6 Spider Valve then into a 2 X12 speaker cab. It sounded pretty good, but I think using the L2m sounds even better to me. -Max
  22. I use the L2 as my amp on stage now. The POD is set for Studio/Direct and the L2 for reference/P.A. connected via the L6 Link. All you need to do to send your tone to the P.A. is to run a cable from the POD to a P.A. Channel. If your P.A. is not as flat as the L2 you will probably need to adjust the EQ controls on the mixer channel. -Max
  23. Line 6 L2m Speaker. I have used my POD with a few guitar amps and it never sounded as good as it does with the L2m. -Max
  24. I am really happy about the Vintage and Bass packs! Roland JC120 is the bomb! -Max
  25. Intermittent cutting out of the signal could be the cable. You should be using AES/EBU type digital cables for the L6 Link. If you are using regular microphone cables I would expect this to happen at some point as your number of speakers or length of cable increases to point where the digital signal becomes too degraded to be reliable. -Max
