Yes. Thanks for the correction.

Try updating using the Line 6 Updater program instead of HX Edit.
-
Is HX Edit working normally otherwise?

Be aware that in many (most?) cases repairing a broken USB connection on a POD HD500 also requires replacing an internal circuit board. Fixing the USB port itself usually won’t fix the problem.

Working software for POD HD500X on Big Sur 11.0.1
silverhead replied to Kosmonopol_JJ's topic in POD HD
Just some further clarity.... the Model Packs don’t actually need to be installed. They are already present in the firmware but hidden and inaccessible. When you purchase the Model Packs your Line 6 account is updated to reflect the purchase and then you just need to unlock them using the License Manager. -
Seems this can never be said often enough! Of course, the users who don’t read the instructions are the same users who aren’t here to read this. ;-)

Would it be normal? What’s normal? Of course you should use only the subset that you want at any time and swap them in and out as desired if that’s what works for you. Whether or not that’s what other people do should be of no concern. What you describe sounds perfectly reasonable to me. No the number of presets you can have at any time is not expandable. You have 2 setlists to work with and that’s it.

No. They are still different programs and do different things. License Manager has not replaced Monkey. Seems License Manager is compatible with Big Sur. Monkey is probably not. You need Monkey to update firmware. That's not likely to happen again with the POD HD series so if the firmware in your POD HD is up to date you likely won't need Monkey again. But if you want to purchase any POD HD Model packages in the future you will need License Manager to get them authorized and available on your POD HD device. -
Sorry. Snapshots don’t affect DSP usage. The preset’s DSP requirements take account of all blocks in the preset, whether or not they are used in any particular snapshot. Unfortunately the answer to the last sentence/question in your post is Yes.

Helix - Need better understanding of Impulse Responses
silverhead replied to drumfool56871's topic in Helix
... and you shouldn’t feel dumb at all. If you think everyone understands it just fine you’re wrong. They just don’t ask, perhaps because they might feel kind of dumb..... But because you have asked the question hopefully you understand a little better. And you have helped some silent readers who may also benefit from this. -
Helix - Need better understanding of Impulse Responses
silverhead replied to drumfool56871's topic in Helix
1. The amp pack is a set of actual Helix presets that use the Helix Cali Rectifier amp model. Hence the .hlx format. 2. Yes. You can usually replace the Helix preset Cab model with any purchased IR. 3. A1) IRs are usually used to replace a stock Cab but sometimes they are used to augment a stock cab, meaning both should be used toghether. Perhaps ML Sound Labs has used this approach in their MO Cab Pack. Or, the Rectifier Amp Pack presets are designed so that you can choose to use either the stock cab or the IR in the same preset, selecting between them with, for instance, a footswitch. You'd have to inspect the preset structure to answer this question. 3. A2) Don't know exactly how this purchase is structured, but if you can purchase the Amp Pack without the IR pack then the preset files have to be able to stand alone, using a stock cab without an IR. -
Yes. The only thing that happens to the incoming analog signal is an A/D conversion. After that it is sent directly over USB to your DAW.

The phrase ‘decrypt the asset’ is typically used in conjunction with ‘assets’ purchased from the Helix Marketplace. It usually means that the preset refers to Marketplace items that have not been authorized for use within your account or on a specific computer. Such assets have a badge associated with them that is visible in the preset. It looks like a gold guitar pick. Do you know whether or not your presets contain any Helix Marketplace assets?

1. No. The dry output is sent directly over USB from the input jack. By default it uses USB channel 7 but you can change this if you wish. There is no processing of the USB-destined dry signal on the Helix preset signal path. It has nothing to do with the FX Loop block being on or off. The USB dry signal never reaches that block. 2. Typically you would record the dry signal on a mono track. You can use any of USB channels 3 through 6, or the 3/4 or 5/6 pairs if you wish. Just make sure the Input block in your Helix preset uses the same USB channel(s) as your DAW channel Send for the dry guitar track. 3. Yes, assuming the setup you described in your first set of points (1 through 5) works. You say it has apparently been done successfully. I’m not familiar with what you’re describing there. But if it works in the original setup it will work when re-amping also.

Glad it’s sorted out. Enjoy!

You need to update HX Edit to v3.0. Seems you updated HX Edit to v2.92 after updating your HXS firmware to v3.0. That's the problem - they need to both be at v3.0.

Try restoring just the Global Settings (not the IRs or setlists) from the system backup you made at the beginning of the firmware update process. I suspect the issue is that the VOL pedal is not behaving as you expect due to a change in a Global Setting.

Check your Snapshot Block Bypass setting (see manual for firmware v3.0, pg 47)

Is this a preset you created yourself? If not it may simply be the way the preset creator intended for it to work.

Question about JTV-59 comfort
silverhead replied to snew's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
The neck on the JTV-59 is thicker than the JTV-69, and is likely noticeably thicker than your Pacifica. It will feel different. You can get a good feel for it by dropping into any guitar store and playing a Les Paul. The JTV-59 neck feels very similar, if not identical, to that. In addition the JTV-59 comes with factory installed Jumbo frets. That makes it play differently too and you won’t get a feel for that by playing a Les Paul. I own a JTV-59 and chose it because I like the thicker neck (big hands). But I did not like the Jumbo frets so I swapped them out after trying to get used to them for a while. I’m very happy with it. -
Yes you should make a system backup as part of the firmware update through HX Edit, and then restore it after the update. This will restore all your custom global settings. But following that you don’t need to use the voodoo button pushes with a restart. You can simply replace the old Factory setlists with the new by downloading them from here:

You may be hearing the acoustic sound of the standard tuning as well as the Poly Capo effect. To test this, try turning your speaker/monitor volume WAY up, or use headphones or, even better, record a piece and see if it still sounds horrible on playback.

My understanding is that importing an old preset does not trigger an immediate rebuild. Otherwise, I don’t know why it would be rebuilt again, automatically, on the next startup. It seems that at the end of a successful rebuild process the preset is somehow tagged indicating that it has been rebuilt. If not every preset would be rebuilt repeatedly at every startup. I really don’t know for sure how this works. I just presume that there must be a reason to rebuild presets and that the system is smart enough to somehow know when they’ve already been rebuilt. To me that means that if they are rebuilt on startup they weren’t previously rebuilt.
