Set your Delay Time parameter to a note value rather than a ms value. Keep turning the parameter knob (or press it?) to see the note values.

Variax Pedalboard?
silverhead replied to YvanFortin's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
No longer being made afaik. It was never a Line 6 product. I think Line 6 had a licensing agreement of some sort for this many years ago but it has long since expired. -
I'm not talking about the full Helix device - I mean the much simpler HXFX unit: https://line6.com/hx-effects It's designed to be used as a stompbox. I think you'd actually find it simpler with an easier learning curve than the Firehawk. It includes all the FX that Firehawk has, and many more from Helix that are superior to anything in Firehawk. And it uses a PC/Mac editor - not the iOS that you say you find daunting. I'm not trying to sell you on it but from your description of your needs and preferences I think it's a better fit.
-
I think you should consider the Helix FX unit. It's designed as a stompbox only (no amp/cab/mic modeling) and has the superior Helix FX models, much better than the Firehawk in my opinion.

Max VDI cable length
silverhead replied to Indianrock2020's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
That's my understanding - only digital info carried on the VDI cable so no loss of quality like an analog cable. Like cruisinon2 says, it either works or it doesn't. -
Where Was Your Helix Set On First Ever Turn On ?
silverhead replied to PaulWilliamson's topic in Helix
About what? The possibility that you weren't the very first person to unwrap it? It's working fine, there are no visible cosmetic imperfections, you have full warranty, ...... Relax. -
Where Was Your Helix Set On First Ever Turn On ?
silverhead replied to PaulWilliamson's topic in Helix
What you describe is unusual but since it's working properly I wouldn't be concerned. It's not uncommon for some retailers to update the device firmware after receiving the equipment and before selling it. -
Sure. Set up your preset to process guitar on Path 1 and bass on Path 2. Set the output block of Path 1 to USB1/2 and the output block of Path 2 to USB3/4. Select these different outputs as the record inputs in your two DAW tracks.
-
Perhaps you are looking at a preamp block rather than a full amp (which includes the power section where these parameters live).

I guess I'm not sure what exactly you mean by 'module'. Can you post a picture or otherwise describe exactly what this 'module' is? Sounds like you're saying I won't have to touch my L3s - correct? If so then I won't require the deposit and I'm willing to proceed. But again - there's no guarantee that this will resolve anything; in fact it may make things worse if there is other firmware in the L3s, not in the 'module', that needs to be compatible. I have no idea about that. I'm in Canada so there may also be customs/duties involved in your costs. If you want to discuss further please PM me for shipping details.

No issue. The ETA is this spring, which means sometime on or before June 21 2018. Seriously, we're not likely to get any further info. It will be released when it's ready and we probably won't get a heads up. You can choose to expect it now or on June 21. In the former case you'll be disappointed on a daily basis until it's released. In the latter case you will be pleasantly surprised if it's released sooner. Your choice.

Sorry, but Line 6 is not going to 'officially' answer your question here. I understand that you'd like to see a definitive answer from Line 6, and I'm not saying you shouldn't have it. I'm just saying you're not going to get it here. You'd be better off to open a support ticket and ask for that info directly. Also, as phil_m explained there is no hard-wired 'correct' bias. Every physical amp has its own bias. It's quite reasonable to assume (although you don't seem to want to) that the default DEP parameters for every amp model are those that most accurately reflect the physical amp being modeled. I expect they keep tuning the model until, for instance, a Bias value of 5 along with the other related DEP parameters at a value of 5, or 10 or whatever, makes the amp model sound as close as possible to the physical amp. Am I 100% certain about that? No. But why would they do something different? I know you think that you can somehow make things 'better' (despite what your ears tell you) if only you knew what the 'technically optimum values' are, but what we are all trying to tell you is that it's a futile chase. Even if you do manage to get some magic values from Line 6, your ears may tell you something different - because your ears and brain are different from anyone else's. Are you then going to stick with the so-called optimum values or go with what sounds better to you? If the latter, why not start with the default values and experiment until you find the values that work best for you, and forget about whether or not they match some hypothetical optimum values? Again, I'm not trying to say that Line 6 shouldn't give you an answer. But I am saying that you won't hear it here, and it's likely not useful anyway except perhaps to satisfy your obvious curiosity. Good luck in your ongoing quest.

You can arrange for this. Under the Activity tab at the top of this page select Unread Content. YOu will see a row of customizable items. Under the Read Status item tick the box that says 'Unread Item Links Take Me to the First Unread Item'. You can also choose whether you want to see all threads or just those that have unread (by you) content. Then you have to save the changes as a New Stream which subsequently appears under the My Streams section under the Activity tab. Convoluted, but it works. Things will now behave like the old forum (at least with respect to navigation). You see one listing per topic/thread and clicking on the thread brings you to the first unread post. EDIT: I sort of stumbled upon this configuration just before posting about it. Turns out it's a huge improvement for me. In the few minutes I have used it I think I actually prefer it to the old forum. Using the Condensed view (top right of the Items list) I can see only the threads containing unread content, organized by Last Hour, Today, Yesterday, etc. and clicking on a topic takes me to my first unread post in the topic. Works for me. I have set it to my default stream, but of course can easily click other options in the Activity section at any time then return to my default view. EDIT#2: Or, you can use the much simpler method described by jbuhajla below that I didn't know about. (insert unavailable emoticon)

When you run the Hx Edit installer you should also select the option to install the latest Line 6 Update program and driver. You do need firmware v.2.20 or greater to use the HX Edit program but the Updater program should work with v2.12.2. If you don't want to backup any existing presets you should be able to update the firmware. Are you saying you have tried to update and it is failing? If so, please describe exactly what happens. However, if you want to back up any existing presets before updating you should open a support ticket with Line 6. The old Helix editor was a program/app called Helix (replace by HX Edit as of firmware v2.20). I don't see this in the Downloads section any longer. Line 6 will be able to help you with the v2.12.2 backups.

Maybe this snip from the manual (pg14) is relevant: NOTE: If you don’t want Snapshot footswitches to disappear after selecting one, set "Global Settings > Footswitches" > Knob 4 (Snapshot Mode Switches) to “Manual Return.” In this case, Helix stays in Snapshot footswitch mode until you press FS6 (CANCEL).

I wonder if your tuner is set to Mute, and perhaps that blocks the Send outputs? I know it blocks the XLR and 1/4" outputs - that's what the Mute button is for. Perhaps when Mute is on only the internal Helix tuner is getting the signal?
-
I think they're talking about using an external tuner, and a new problem with the tuner output routing in v2.54.

I own an L3s and an M20d so I am a candidate for your offer. If you do want to proceed with this I could help you but I would need a deposit from you for the full replacement cost of my L3s (in addition to the costs you've already.mentioned) in case my L3s ends up being toast because I damaged it during the process. Seems to me I would need to open up my L3s, replace my existing amp module with yours (not sure how to do that), do the firmware update, swap the modules back again, update my own firmware to ensure compatibility, and put things back together. Lots of opportunity for my sub to get screwed up. If successful in the end I would return your deposit. And 'success' from my perspective means I update the firmware in your module successfully. It does not mean that the result works on your end. Still interested?

Have you opened a support ticket and discussed this plan with Line 6? They may be able to provide a simpler and less costly fix, or perhaps even a different diagnosis. For instance, how do you know a firmware update will fix things for you? Is it possible that a firmware update involves multiple internal components, and that updating only the amp module will result in different and incompatible versions of firmware running in different components rendering the L3s unusable?

Updating Helix LT 2.12.2 Firmware to 2.52 Firmware
silverhead replied to jfreyline6's topic in Helix
Where did you purchase your LT? If from a reputable retailer I would ask for a replacement. There's no reason afaik that it should not update from v2.12.2 directly to v2.53 (or now 2.54). -

Updating Helix LT 2.12.2 Firmware to 2.52 Firmware
silverhead replied to jfreyline6's topic in Helix
I recommend that you download and install the latest version of HX Edit (v2.52), including the driver and the Line 6 Updater program, and then run the Updater to install the latest firmware. I see no reason not to install the editor. However, if you are intent on not installing it then you need to separately download and install both the latest Updater program and driver.
