Yes, but it's much more difficult without using the editor. The manual will describe it - using the SAVE button on the device. You may need to set aside one preset slot as a temporary buffer to hold a preset that you don't want to overwrite with the SAVE feature. It's a bit of a juggling act, and not nearly as visual as with the editor.

To remove the double amp block, first place all FX outside the dual-amp rectangle on the display, either pre or post. Your signal path should now look like a single straight line except for the dual-amp rectangle. Now select the top amp and use the Move function (or drag/drop in HD Edit) to move it left, outside of the rectangle. As this happens the rectangle should disappear leaving you with the single amp path display.

Jtv Models In 500hd Presets
silverhead replied to oehman's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
This sounds like something that could be implemented - not sure. You might want to make a feature request for it. Arguably, the tuning is specified with every HD500 preset; it either uses the HD500 alternate tuning capability, or it doesn't. If it doesn't, that means the JTV tuning is reset to standard. No ambiguity there; the reason the tuning doesn't 'carry over' is that it has been explicitly reset in the new preset. The difference with the JTV Model selection is that it's not exactly clear how the JTV should behave when 'Don't Force' is defined in the HD500 preset; there is ambiguity. Clearly, the 'current' JTV model should be retained. But how should 'current model' be defined? By the model that is active in the JTV buffer (the last one 'forced' by the HD500), or the model that is defined by the physical knob and pickup selector positions? Line 6 has chosen to implement the former. Could that be changed? Probably - that's where your feature request comes in. But equally probably, the moment they changed it there would be complaints from those who are used to the way it currently works and would request a return to the current implementation. -
Nothing preventing you from going back. Sounds like that's what you want to do. You don't need permission.

Is it possible to set your keyboard output level to Amp/Instrument rather than Line Level? You may just be getting signal overload into your X3 inputs. The Guitar and Aux inputs are expecting instrument level inputs. You might experiment with this idea a little bit by using the PAD switch with the Guitar input. This is probably a long shot because it doesn't explain why the noise disappears when one input is removed, but might be relevant.

Why not simply create two patches? A single toe-tap will switch between them. Can't see how it gets simpler than that.

Note that Workbench HD does not work using the VDI connection from any compatible POD (e.g. HD500). You must use the Workbench hardware interface that came with your JTV. Don't bother wasting time testing with the VDI connection. A couple of things to check: When using the hardware interface, you should have a well-charged battery in your JTV. Also, your JTV needs to be updated to firmware v2.0.

There should be no audible bleeding between the Tones if you have them both (almost) fully panned L and R respectively. I say 'almost' due to one lingering bug in the X3 Panning feature - there is a little bleed if the pan setting is 100%. Back it off just a touch and the bleeding disappears. ... and in terms of saving time, what would it actually take to test this for yourself? A couple of minutes max?... really, you'll get what you want faster by experimenting.

I agree that it's a matter of degree, and of managing one's expectations. I think it's fair to expect that a product has a lifecycle, and that early in its lifecycle one can reasonably expect updates. But beyond a certain point (and everyone will have a different personal timepoint) it becomes unreasonable to expect further updates. I still see requests for X3 updates; dream on. Will there be further updates in the Pod HD product line, now a few years old? I hope so, but anyone who considers this thread to be a list of pending new features is (imho) potentially setting themselves up for disappointment.

You forget to add '... imho'.

Jtv-59 Selector Switch Not Working
silverhead replied to ltmsc's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Some people have reported a faulty Model Selector knob as you describe. The knob is physically prevented from being depressed sufficiently to activate the switch - it contacts the guitar body before being fully depressed. A simple fix to try is to remove the knob, insert a small bit of paper as a shim to raise the knob on the shaft, and restore the knob. It is now set at a slightly higher position, allowing full depression to activate the underlying switch. -
I believe the change in the sound of acoustics from v1.9 to v2.0 is related to the change in the HD modeling 'engine' of the JTV. I don't think the acoustic models themselves were changed (they were already HD as of v1.82). Perhaps your HD500 preset has been somehow corrupted. Try recreating the offending acoustic preset from scratch (don't copy/edit) and see if the problem persists.

Hd500 Set Tuning Reverts To Standard?
silverhead replied to Rewolf48's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
It sounds like you are not using HD500 Edit while this is happening, but if you are try closing Edit and disconnecting your usb. One other thing to check - make sure the Alt Tuning knob on your JTV is set to Standard - not Model. If both of the above are discounted, then try to come up with a reliable 'recipe' (series of specific HD500 actions i.e. switch/knob/button movements) to consistently reproduce the problem and report it as a bug to Line 6. -
Variax Ghost Notes?
silverhead replied to spmartin's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Glad to hear that progress is being made on this. I was one who suggested it sounded like a software problem; seems we can put that theory to bed now. Thanks for posting this update. It's probably very good news for you - means returning and replacing your guitar where you bought it (I understand that option is still available to you) might be quicker and easier than taking it in for Line 6 servicing. Again, good luck with this. I'm sure you will absolutely love your JTV in the end. -
Ux2 No Sound Input Without Pod Farm
silverhead replied to davidk910's topic in POD Farm / POD Studio / TonePort
What are you expecting the UX2 to do without Pod Farm? It is simply an audio interface; by itself the UX2 doesn't generate any sounds. -

Who Has A Completely Working Jtv Guitar?
silverhead replied to spmartin's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I have a perfectly working JTV-59. Love it. I have read your other thread and the progress being made with Line 6 support. My understanding is that they believe it may have something to do with the alt tuning s/w in Workbench HD and they are working towards a solution. I also see that other users are having a similar issue - all of whom seem to have used Workbench HD to adjust alternate tunings. As I understand it this could be a trigger for the symptom. This suggests that the issue is s/w rather than h/w. To help with your decision, I think the most important question is: If your alternate tuning issue is resolved, would you want to keep the guitar? If the answer is no, then return your guitar for refund. If the answer is yes, recognizing that the issue is likely software, I don't think swapping your guitar will get you anywhere. A very cautious approach here would be to return the guitar now for a refund and wait to re-purchase another after a fix has been announced. Meantime you have no JTV. Personally, I would feel confident that Line 6 will get to the bottom of this and release a software fix, but that is just my opinion. That would argue for door #3 in your list of options. Meantime, you can enjoy the guitar without using alternate tunings if that's possible. But, of course, it's your decision. Good luck with this. -
Presets For The 4 Line Ins
silverhead replied to duselton's topic in StageScape Mixer / StageSource Speakers
Feel free to offer your product comparisons here, and feel free to state your opinion about those comparisons, even if it is not favourable to Line 6. I can assure you that Line 6 welcomes feedback of this sort. If it's favourable, of course they love it. If it's not, it gives them clear and valuable direction on a market challenge they face. -
Are you sure this isn't caused by an active FX model in the signal? Can you confirm that this is happening with no FX assigned in the preset?

I've wondered that too, but haven't felt the need to swap the JTV piezos. I own a Variax 300 and changed to Graphtec pickups a couple of years ago. The sound improvement was incredible - much better than the original V300 piezos. When I purchased a JTV one of the first things I did was compare sounds with the upgraded V300. At that time the JTV modeling was the same as the V300, so any difference in sound would have been due to the different piezos. I could not tell any difference; to my ears the new JTV piezos sound as good as the Graphtec. Mind you, technology moves ahead - perhaps the latest version of the Graphtec would indeed be better, but I know for me it's not worth it. I am very happy with my JTV as it is, and I'm pretty sure the quality of the piezos is not the limiting factor in my sound or playing.

arislaf, I agree with you. I want to see another update too and there are several things I would like to see in it, including Workbench HD compatibility. All I'm saying is that nobody should feel entitled to it. Line 6 may provide one, and may not. Doesn't change the fact that we have (or should have) purchased a product based on what it could do at the time, not based on what it might be able to do at some unknown future date. And it does what we knew it could do. Anything else is a bonus, and lack of it is not reasonable cause for disappointment.
