NOTE: HD model packs are not compatible with POD Farm 2.5. Only standard model packs can be used with a Line 6 device and/or a computer authorized with POD Farm 2.5 or better. This is a step by step guide on using the Line 6 License Manager to install Model Packs on the POD HD500X and HD Pro X. If you have Line 6 Monkey installed, then you have Line 6 License Manager. There are a few things to check before we get started: Make sure you have the latest version of Line 6 Monkey installed. If you don't you can find it here: http://line6.com/software/ Line 6 License Manager comes in the Line 6 Monkey installer. Before you Begin: Connect your POD via USB, open Line 6 Monkey and make sure the latest drivers are installed. Next, the Flash Memory version on your POD must be version 2.60 or higher: And the firmware must be updated to version 1.04 or higher. Step by Step in Line 6 License Manager: After your POD is updated it's time to run the License Manager. You can access it in the Start Menu on Windows or in C:\Program Files(x86)\Line6\Tools on a Mac it's in the Applications\Line 6 Folder in Finder. When License Manager opens it looks like this: Click the Login Button and type your username and password for Line6.com: Once you are logged in, you will see your computer and the POD: Authorize your computer first: Then highlight the POD: And authorize again: Next, the POD will indicate that there are add-ons that need to be installed: Click the install button to program your model packs on the POD: The POD will tell you to Power Cycle. Unplug the power for 5 seconds and plug it back in. Now you can Check the hardware for your new amp models buy putting your cursor over the amp icon in a patch and using the first knob under the LCD screen to search: Enjoy your new amp models! Deutsch Français In order for your computer to recognize your device when you are connected via USB, you will first need to install the appropriate drivers. Here is what you will need to do to install drivers on a Mac computer: 1) Download and launch the latest version of Line 6 Monkey, which is your intelligent updater program for Line 6 gear. See the following link for more information on Line 6 Monkey: Line 6 Monkey Installation and F.A.Q. 2) Turn off all other programs and disconnect all non-essential USB and Firewire devices (printers, cameras, mp3 players, etc.) from the computer (USB mouse and keyboard can be an exception if you do not have an alternative). 3) Launch Line 6 Monkey. If your unit is not connected (or there are no previous drivers installed), Monkey will ask you to choose the Line 6 device you wish to configure. For this tutorial we will select a Line 6 Guitarport from the dropdown menu. 4) In the Updates tab, highlight Drivers and select "Update Selection" on the right hand side of Line 6 Monkey's user interface. 5) Monkey will connect to the Line 6 server and download the appropriate drivers for your Line 6 device. If you receive the following message you can select "Remind me later" to continue the installation. 6) After the drivers are downloaded, Line 6 Monkey will exit so the Driver Install program can run. Select "OK". 7) Select "Continue" to move to the next section. 8) Select "Continue" to move to the next section. 9) Select "Continue" to move to the next section. 10) Select "Agree" to move to the next section. 11) Select "Install" to install the Line 6 drivers to your hard drive. 12) Enter your administrative user name and password to install the drivers, then select "OK". 13) Select "restart" to restart you computer and begin using your Line 6 Hardware. Please go through the following checklist before updating the flash memory of your Variax guitar to ensure the update completes successfully: Ensure that the interface you are using to update the Variax with (Workbench Interface, PODxt Live/Pro, POD X3 Live/Pro, POD HD500/HD Pro, Vetta II) is NOT connected to the computer through a USB hub. Make sure to connect the interface into a USB port directly into the computer, especially into the back of a desktop. If problems persist, make sure to test all of the USB ports on the computer. Avoid plugging into USB ports found on keyboards, monitors, or laptop docks. [*]When using the Workbench Interface to update or edit the Variax guitar, ensure that a charged battery is in the guitar (JTV only) and a 1/4" TS mono cable is inserted into the guitar's output jack, or that the stereo TRS cable is plugged into the Variax providing power from the XPS power supply to power on the guitar. [*]On a James Tyler Variax guitar, ensure that the Volume knob on the guitar is NOT set to the '0' position as it will put the guitar into Power Save Mode. Make sure that the Volume knob is set higher than 0 when updating or editing the JTV guitar. [*]Please use the VDI Cable that comes with the JTV guitar when updating the flash memory on that guitar. Avoid using VDI or CAT5 cables longer than 10 ft. in length when updating any Variax guitar. [*]Close out any other applications running on your computer before updating the Variax guitar. Q: How do I update or re-install the flash memory on my Variax Electric 300, 500, 600, 700 and James Tyler Variax guitars? A: These instruments can only be returned to factory reset by reinstalling the flash memory. You will need to connect your Variax to the workbench software using your Variax enabled hardware (i.e. Variax Hardware interface, POD XT/X3 Live, POD X3 Pro, VETTA with VDI, or POD HD500), then you will have to connect your interface to your computer via USB. Once the guitar and interface are connected to the computer, you will need to run Line 6 Monkey. USB Connectivity with Line 6 Devices Once you have Monkey installed and your computer is recognizing the connection, see the screen shots for the reflash procedure: 1) Once you run Line 6 Monkey, Monkey may ask you to register. If you do not wish to register (or have already registered) select "remind me later". 2) If you want to reinstall the factory presets (or update the firmware), select "Flash Memory" the select "Reinstall Latest" 3) Select "OK" to agree to the software license 4) Select "yes" or "no" If you want to keep the patches on the instrument 5) Select "Yes" to continue with the update. Do not disconnect the variax during the update. 6) Line 6 Monkey will reinitialize the device and update the flash memory. You can watch the progress on the blue bar on the right side of Monkey. 7) Once the update is complete you will need to select "OK" to continue. Note: Older v1.71 and v1.82 Models might not be compatible with the v1.90 and v2.00 data block formats. Variax Bass 700/705 Reflash Factory defaults must be restored one at a time. Select the Model you wish to normalize, the place the blend and two tone controls in the detent (center) position. Now press the Model select pot down until the indicator light stops flashing. The Model should now be restored to factory settings. Use this procedure for any model you want to restore to the factory setting. The Variax bass series can also be "reflashed" using the procedure for the Variax electric guitars described above.

Fixed Undo issue for recordings loaded directly from SD-Card, where the last two overdubs would be erased instead of only the most recent one. v2.09 Firmware Update Instructions: After you download the v2.09 update to your computer, please click here for step by step instructions on how to install the update. (Instructions are for v2.07, but they are essentially the same for v2.09. Note: If you are updating from v2.07, you can skip Step 4 -- no need to power up your Spider Jam with the SD card inserted -- simply insert SD card with power on as described in Step 3, then proceed to Step 5). Note: SD Card must be no larger than 2 GB capacity! The v2.09 update will erase all the internal recordings you have made. If you want to save them, use an SD card to create backups (via the TRANSFER ALL TO CARD command) then copy them from your SD card onto your PC for safe keeping (using an SD card reader). You can then reload your files using an SD card at any time after you have completed the update. The v2.09 update will erase all the custom guitar presets you have made. Here are the instructions on Saving and Loading the presets to and from the Spider Jam: STORING PRESETS Created a User Tone and Saved it to a user location. In the SETTINGS/TONE menu, please make sure RECORDINGS SET TONE is set to ON. Made a recording with that guitar tone and save the recording to the internal memory. Do this for every preset you would like to store. In the SAVE menu, select the TRANSFER ALL TO CARD option. All of your recordings and their associated tone will be saved to the SD card. [*]LOADING PRESETS To transfer them back into the amp, go to the SAVE menu and choose the TRANSFER ALL FROM CARD option. This will load the recordings and the associated presets back onto the Spider Jam. Now, when you load a recording that was transferred onto the Spider Jam from the SD Card, the preset that was stored with the recording will be loaded with the recording. It will show in the SETTINGS/TONE menu with an asterisk (*) next to the name. To store this preset back into the Spider Jam User presets, go to the SAVE menu and select SAVE GUITAR TONE to store the preset in the User location you desire. Note: If you are updating from v1.04, you should back up your recordings by connecting a recording device to your Spider Jam RCA Outputs/JM4 Stereo Line Out (tape or hard disk recorder, computer sound card, etc.) then record them as you would any other recorded material in real time. (Tip: Record them in WAV format at 44.1, 16 bit mono; that way you can reload them into your Spider Jam later). Instructions for updating (also attached): 1. If you haven't done so already, download the latest firmware to your computer desktop from the Line 6 website (log in with your Line 6 User Name) here: Spider Jam 2.09 Firmware. The downloaded file will be named "fw.bin", with no number. Please save this to your desktop to easily find the file once the file has been downloaded. Note: You will need to delete any previous Spider Jam updates from your desktop prior to saving the Spider Jam 2.09 firmware, as the both devices will not recognize any firmware with an extension or name alterations. 2. Copy the downloaded fw.bin file to a blank SD card via an SD card reader. When the copy is complete, put the downloaded fw.bin file in a safe place on your PC for future reference -- for example, put it in a new folder labeled 'Spider Jam Flash', noting the version number. 3. Insert your SD card into the Spider Jam SD card slot. Note: Spider Jam owners running v1.04 should press and hold the SAVE button while powering up the Spider Jam (release SAVE after Spider Jam powers up from the SD card). 4. Press the SAVE button to display the menu items in the LCD if they aren't already displayed. 5. Turn the wheel and navigate to FIRMWARE UPGRADE at the bottom of the menu list then press Right Arrow to display the upgrade screen. 6. Press Up Arrow for YES to proceed with the update -- the Spider Jam or JM4 Looper will update itself from the SD Card. When the update is complete, the Spider Jam will power cycle itself. Note: Do not turn off power in the middle of the update! 7. Verify the update was successful by previewing a few Songs and Drum tracks (scroll thru the list; each track will play for a few seconds when you select it). 8. After verifying the update was successful, press the SAVE button again to display the menu list. 9. Turn the wheel and navigate to FORMAT CARD then press Right Arrow to display the format screen. 10. Press Up Arrow for YES and the Spider Jam/JM4 Looper will format the SD Card, preparing it for normal operation. 11. When formatting is complete, you're all set. If you ever want to reinstall your firmware, go back to your computer and copy the 'fw.bin' file to your SD Card, then repeat the above steps from Step 2. 12. If you want to load your backed up .WAV files into your Spider Jam again, simply copy them from your computer into the "LINE6" folder on your SD card using your SD card reader, then load them into your Spider Jam using the IMPORT WAV FILE FROM CARD command (consult the Spider Jam Advanced Guide for info on the option of viewing and loading your files via the SD Recordings Browser). If there is no LINE6 folder on the SD Card root directory, please create one. Format Alert: If your SD Card is rejected by the Spider Jam as not being FAT16, you should format your card and start over. See Format Instructions below. (Also attached) Mac OSX: Format SD Card to FAT16 1. Insert card into Mac via SD card reader 2. Name it UNTITLED (Double click on the icon on your desktop to open the drive>Right Click or CTRL Click on the Drive title and select the Rename option) 3. A: When updating a Line 6 device via a MIDI interface, please ensure that you are using the latest drivers for the interface. These drivers can usually be downloaded from the web site of the interface's manufacturer. Line 6 advises you do this in order to ensure that the updates will go smoothly. Q: Line 6 Monkey will not connect to the internet so that I can do my updates. Monkey says that there is no connection to the internet even though I am connected and able to access the internet normally? A: There are a number of issues that can cause Line 6 Monkey to not be able to connect with the Line 6 servers. The biggest offenders are pop-up blockers and surfing anonymizers. Monkey uses specific information in the internet headers to verify the connection between our servers and your gear. The end result of using programs like "Ghost Surf" (a popular surfing anonymizer) is that they strip out this information. As a result, Line 6 Monkey and the Line 6 servers cannot agree that they have a valid connection available. If you are using the Ghost Surf program or a similar surfing anonymizer service, then you would need to temporarily disable this feature while you are using LINE 6 MONKEY. Most such programs have a way to specify a particular web domain as 'safe', and you may simply be able to tell the program that line6.com can be trusted. If not, however, you will have to consult the documentation for the software to determine how to disable it for use with Line 6 Monkey. If you are using a product called GHOST SURF - make sure you don't have the "eye" visible in the task bar. Right click on the "eye" and select "exit" to turn Ghost Surf off. If this doesn't help, it may be one of the background processes that Ghost Surf starts. Ghost Surf 2005 will start a process called Scheduler daemon.exe which can be stopped using the Windows Task Manager. You can open the Task Manager Window by hitting the CTRL-ALT-DEL keys at the same time. Just select the Scheduler daemon.exe process and click the "End Process" button. To restart the process, go to the Ghost Surf 2005 directory and double click on the Scheduler daemon icon which is a lightning bolt. You'll also want to check and see if you (or your ISP) are running proxies that are not up to date. You can check this in the Tools/Internet Options menu of your browser.
