  1. Hi. I have 2 amp modelers, Amplitube and SLT AmpHub. I want to channel them through my Helix LT. The Helix is my only interface to my speakers and computer. I created a preset and used different I/O combinations but no success. Anyone know how to do this? Thanks for responding.
  2. Hi, I'm trying to figure out if the HD500X can take the place of a desktop USB interface I use with Amplitube. Now, I go back and forth between using the HD500X and my other interface, because I can't figure out how to mute the tones produced by the POD itself. When I use my other interface, I have a knob where I can blend the original direct input signal into my monitoring headphones. I can turn the knob all the way so I only hear the signal after it's processed with amplitube, or there are some software settings that completely disable direct monitoring. Can I set up something similar on the HD500X? The minimum I need would be a way to totally mute the POD tones and hear amplitube only. It would be nice if I could figure out a way to blend amplitube and POD with a knob, but I could get by without that.
  3. The IR's I have posted on this forum and on Dropbox are made from the Amplitube 4, Fruity Loops, and Voxengo Deconvolver, along with my own tweaks to taste. I asked around this forum and the IK Multimedia forum, Sonar forum, and more and no one had experience or direction. After a lot of research and trial and (lots of) error on my own, I finally got some working pieces in place. The simplest way to do it that I found was with Voxengo Deconvolver and Fruity Loops Fruity Convolver (FLC herein). I'm sure there are other more pro ways to do it. http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/amplitube4/ (I highly recommend the Amplitube 4 + Mesa pack for $159) http://www.voxengo.com/product/deconvolver/ http://www.image-line.com/downloads/flstudiodownload.html You can completely create and save IR *.wav files that will import into Helix with the demo versions of FL and Voxengo. But you wont be able to save and reopen the FL session, and you cant do more than 3 conversions at a time with the Voxengo demo. Follow the Fruity Convolver "plug-in sandwich" method for creating an plug-in IR in Making impulse responses from plugin effects , which is based on a reverb plug-in. Except use a 20 sec (20Hz-20kHz) sine sweep signal exported from Voxengo in FLC slot 1 instead of the FLC "clap" impulse (which is good for reverbs). I found that although Helix converts IR's to 16 bit, the 24 bit Voxengo IR sine sweep made a better sounding Cab IR. I couldn't tell a difference between 24 bit and 32 bit. Also, I couldn't tell a difference between Mono and Stereo sine sweep through a cab. https://www.image-line.com/support/FLHelp/html/plugins/Fruity%20Convolver.htm Here's a video too. I attached a few screenshots with some notes. I might make a video if you guys want it. Again, the IR's I made were raw, but I thought they sounded good enough for me. A little EQ matching with a plug-in and a track could refine them a bit more. Someone with more time and software tools might do a bit better than I did. Here is a Dropbox link to my working Amplitube IR's https://www.dropbox....Rd2evJJ0Ca?dl=0 FYI, I have a feature request into IK Multimedia to allow IR export directly from Amplitube for live use. We'll see if that goes anywhere. I'm sure they could sell more Amplitube with something like that. They don't have anything like Line 6 IdeaScale that I could find. This should work with other software modellers too, but I only have Amplitube. I can see this also making a good scratch pad for testing virtual cab and mic configurations before setting up physical cabs and mics for real IR's. Posted Line 6 Helix IR Utility to Idea Scale. http://line6.ideasca...ty/813669-23508 Update 4/6/2016: Clarifying summary steps from another post response. Use Voxengo Deconvolver (VDC) to generate the 20 sec sine sweep impulse *.wav file for an input signal to the DAW plug in (Amplitube) In Fruity Loops, make the Fruity Loops Convolver (FLC)-Amplitube-Fruity Loops Convolver plug in sandwich Turn of the 1st and 3rd slot FLC's and tweak an Amplitube Cab and Mic to taste to a Helix amp Turn on the 1st FLC slot and import and play the Voxengo sine sweep through Amplitube and adjust the Amplitube inputs and outputs below clip (red). Turn on the 3rd FLC slot (all 3 are on now) and record the output (response) of the 1st FLC through Amplitube 2nd slot. In the 3rd FLC slot, add a little silence to the end of the recorded response as for some reason it is slightly shorter than 20 sec. In the 3rd FLC slot, export the response as a *.wav In VDC, load the original VDC-generated 20 sec sine sweep *.wav file and the FLC exported response *.wav file, In VDC, set the magic settings in the pic above (experiment to taste), and click Process In Helix App, drag your new IR it into one of the Impulses slot, put it on a preset, and enjoy. To maybe alleviate any concerns about pirating Amplitube, all new IRs I post will be exported from Helix impulse library after they have been processed by Helix import. This adds another layer of processing that makes them a little further from the Amplitube originals, but the same to Helix users. Recall that Helix converts IRs to 16 bit on import. I also think there may be some other processing by Helix as the 9kb 16bit Helix-exported IRs sound different in a DAW than the pre-import 24 bit 50-150kb IRs I get with the process I use. Update 4/7/2016 I have added equivalent Power Amp + Cab IR's on Dropbox. These have a lot thicker sound and I believe have captured more of the tube power amp + cab interaction and vibe. These can be use with Helix preamp blocks as well as amp blocks. Using them with preamp blocks will allow you to split the signal after the preamp for virtual effects loop or to send preamp signal to your real tube power amp or amp effects return, the run the Amp +Cab IR to the Helix XLR for front of house sound. Mesa Recto Pwr Amp +Cab Marshall 70 80 Pwr Amp + Cab Fender Twin 212 Pwr Amp + Cab Fender Deluxe 410 Pwr Amp + Cab Mesa Mark III V30 412 Pwr Amp + Cab New! These IR's should give you completely different sounds than available from within Helix or from any cab IR company (Ownhamer or Redwirez). Update 4/8/2016 I have archived all previous trial IR's and files and did some housekeeping. The old stuff should still be there in the !Archive folder if there is something you think you need. All files are now at the IR folder level with a naming convention to organize them. There is generally one cab IR and one (power) Amp + Cab for each amp/cab type. I have refreshed previous cab IR's and new amp + cab IR's with updated naming so that the name in Helix is the same as the file name. It was a file title issue. New tested workflows below!!! These IR's work great with outboard physical gear and Helix as the IR processor, signal router, and controller, including preamps, amps effects sends, and amps though reactive loads. Feel free to experiment as always, but the the physical components do seem to work intuitively as you would traditionally route them in the real world. preamps sound good through Amp + Cab IR's and the amp effects sends, slaves, & reactive load outs sound good through the Cab IR's Things I have tested that work well: Helix preamps & amps (of course!) Mesa Triaxis preamp Marshall JMP-1 preamp Mesa V Twin pedal preamp Mesa Stiletto Duece II (effects send & reactive load) Mesa Mark V (effects send, slave out, & reactive load)
  4. Hey guys, With all the 'vs' and modeler battle demos going on I thought it would be cool to do a few SDS style. We're comparing 8 different amp modelers in a full band context, just as you would use/hear them in real life. All of the amp modelers are running through the exact same OwnHammer 4x12 EVH IR. All of the plugins without IR loaders go through NadIR (with the internal cabs disabled). The modelers in this video include: Fractal Audio Axe FX Overloud TH3 Peavey Revalver 4 IK Multimedia Amplitube 4 Native Instruments Guitar Rig 5 Line 6 Pod Farm 2 Nick Crow 8505 Line 6 Helix Floor This episode focuses on the legendary Peavey 5150 amp. I'd love to hear your thoughts guys! How well does the Helix stack up to the rest? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cFhcZpxHbg
  5. Got my Helix last Monday, and of course have been fiddling with it in my somewhat limited time. In general I'm enjoying it (may do a post on my reactions later), but there's a class of Amplitube 4 patches I really like that I haven't been able to get very close to. I've attached one. If anyone has any thoughts on how to do something like it in Helix, or better yet an actual Helix patch like it, I'd appreciate it. This patch was tailored to a G&L Ascari HB3, 3 humbuckers, no idea how it'll work for anyone else's guitar or playing, but I thought I'd ask this anyway. Also, it was done primarily in AKG 240 phones, FWIW. (The HB3 is pretty new to me. Nice guitar, but it arrived with a defective bridge PU, sounds like honky nasal crap, and I never use it. G&L will fix it when I'm ready to be without it for a while, I'm only mentioning that because this patch doesn't deal with the bridge pickup at all. I have a version of it that does for my main guitar, but that guitar is so different from anything anyone else has that I thought this one was more helpful here.) Patch uses the Mesa Mark III, and as saved is pushed enough to be a little fat and sustainy, but barely distorted. If you can imagine playing with a friend who doesn't like distorted guitars, but you still want some Mojo, it's a version of that. It has a number of more-drive options available. I really like it as saved, and with each of the various drive options. I care much more about Helix doing the patch as saved, that fat but not that distorted thing, less about the stomps and fx that are configured but off. That said, the drive options need some explanation. - The EQ in stomp A is always on - The overdrives in stomp A I use less often than other drive options, still nice though - The Crusher in stomp B is a mild thickener. I sometimes use the first EQ in stomp B with it to brighten it up slightly; that's all that EQ is for. - The second 2 EQs in stomp B are the main overdrive options, used one at a time. The first one pushes medium hard, the second one more. - The EQ-XS Fuzz-EQ chain on the right side of stomp 2 gets turned on or off as a single effect. (No controllers configured for that at this point though, or for anything else.) It's towards the more-drive end of things for me, different texture than the other options. So far in Helix, by the time I get much fatness, I hear more obvious distortion than this, as it's saved. It's much easier to find things closer to the drive options. I like playing through the Helix patches I've made so far, but I'd miss something like this if I couldn't get near it, it's one of my home bases. To be clear, I haven't gone through anywhere near all the amps, stomps, and cabs Helix has to offer. I keep just playing guitar instead of trying everything, which itself is a good sign. Still, I haven't landed on anything at all similar to this patch, thought I'd ask. @roscoe5, and any other Amplitube (ex-, maybe) users, what do you think?
  6. So I went back to the very first Mesa Recto IR and tried to figure out why it sounded SO different than the newer ones I was making. Turns out that I made the beginner "mistake" of not turning off the Mesa Dual Rectifier amp in Amplitube when I was just trying to IR the cab! So I have made a newer version of that first Mesa Cab+Amp IR applying some lessons learned since the first one. I think this clearer and more usable version of it. Try it with just a Cali Rectifier Preamp block too! Sounds killer. Be sure to experiment with the IR samples, low cut, and high cut. Again, a happy mistake leads to new IR possibilities. I don't know where the heck to go with this now. Helix preamps and AT power amp/cab IR's? Waters=muddied! Note that playing the IR by itself does not sound like a full amp at all. Maybe closer to a power amp and cab. It is really is its own beast. Attached the IR Mesa Recto Amp Cab_hx.wav to this post and uploaded to Dropbox. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/009bkqzooza1aop/AACk9ahjlUJzadRvQlRwGzL0a/IR/Mesa%20Recto%20V30%20SM57?dl=0 Mesa Recto Amp Cab_hx.wav

  8. First of all, I have posted the following problem in the Reaper and IK Multimedia forums, but haven't got a real answer. Secondly, My set-up: Me -> Godin Session -> Evidence cable -> Sonic Port VX -> Win7, 64bit, i7, 8GB Ram -> Reaper/standalone programs. The headphones are my AKG K518 and K77. When I'm using my guitar with the sonic port into Amplitube 3 or Pod Farm (either in stand alone or VST) I get a really fizzy sound with overdrive/distortion. Also, in amplitube the difference in volume between clean setting and dirty (especially with an overdrive pedal) is HUGE. In the amplitube manual it says the following: "Tip: if while browsing AmpliTube 3 presets you find that all clean sounds are too quiet and all lead sounds are too high, this means that you’re using a too low input gain on your audio interface.". Now, I can't change the input level, and even after playing with all the input knobs I still get the same results. Has something like this happend to some one else? Any help would be much appreciated.
  9. Hello all, I have a POD 2.0 running firmware v2.2 and controlling it with an an original Line 6 Floorboard: I am trying to map my POD 2.0 Floorboard controls so that I can control parameters in Guitar Rig Pro 5. I have seen videos and posts on users using the newer Line 6 floorboard models with Guitar Rig Pro but I have no clue on how to do this with the original POD 2.0 Floorboard. I have my MIDI INs and OUTs connected correctly and Ableton is showing that I am transmitting MIDI signals from my Floorboard. However, I cannot seem to find the right software to manually map the POD 2.0 MIDI CC#'s so that Guitar Rig Pro 5 can see them. For instance, when I move my volume pedal on my Line 6 Floorboard, I would like it to control a knob in Guitar Rig Pro 5. I have installed Line 6 Edit and Line 6 Monkey which I don't think helped my situation. Has anyone done anything similar with the original Line 6 Floorboard? With the amount of POD 2.0's still out there, I'm sure someone has tried to connect their gear with Guitar Rig Pro or Amplitube? Can anyone help me out? Thanks.
  10. Hi, Could someone please help with the following: 1. is it possible to have a sound from Pod Farm VST in Reaper in computer speakers? Right now I have a clean guitar signal from speakers, to be able to hear actual tone I have to use headphones. 2. How to configure Guitar Rig and Amplitube to work with UX2 (playing through computer speakers)? Tried many different settings and everything I got is signal coming to application (peak indicators are live as I hit the strings), but no sound from speakers. Many thanks for any help :-)
  11. Hello all, I am in the process of building a new studio in the house and I am considering ordering the line 6 hd500x rack. I was actually convinced I was going to get it after checking it out but after the gear lust period died down I figured I would come ask a few questions. How does this processor compare to amplitube 3 and guitar rig 5? I have been using those and I am happy however they eat up a ton of cpu after awhile and the line 6 would free this up in theory. I just want to make sure the tone is as good or at least close. I threw together a quick recording using amplitube 3 for reference (excuse the vocals and production its early and not finished writing it). Can I get a similar sound quality with line 6? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbGZibXDJUI
