  1. I can see the potential usefulness of this, and I'd stand behind it as well. To make it as seamless as possible if this were added, it would make sense for any process blocks to be 'as they are now' by default (iow, subject to being Snapshot controlled). Then the user would have the option to enable the protected mode per block as required. That would make it relatively straightforward on the user side at least. I can't say for the programming side of course =]
  2. ... Billy always keeps his up on top of his power amp etc - never been on the floor in any rig shots / rundowns that I've ever seen. Perhaps Billy's use inspired Bumblefoot to get onboard.
  3. I do exactly as above; I converted the interior to make more room, and made a separator to protect the controller... then my expression pedals, cables, wireless, tools, etc. all travel in that same rolling suitcase with the extensible handle. Between that, my Helix rack residing in a Gator 3-space short depth enclosure with a carry handle, and my Mono double-electric gig bag, I can roll myself into and out of a situation in one trip each way without help.
  4. It's too bad you didn't purchase L&M's own Performance Warranty - that can be done essentially by the anniversary of the purchase, and it puts the store's warranty service in place for another year. Warranty work for Line 6 gear is done in Canada by Yorkville Sound, which is closely associated with Long & McQuade - their repair time turn-arounds have been impressive based on the experiences of my good friend. They'll look after you. Please continue to update this thread to share how the rest of the process goes for you.
  5. Yorkville YX10P powered 10" PA style speaker, wedge or pole-mount. (I'm using a pair of these at home for stereo - translates well to FOH results when comparing against a PA made up of a super clean and crisp SoundCraft board into two older Mackie 12" mains). I recently got to compare one of these up against a Friedman 1-12 FRFR and was super impressed with how well it held its own. I also compared against an Alto TS210 and... the Alto sounded 'messy' in comparison. I did post about these speakers somewhere on the forum. At this point I've been using these for just over a year. Yorkville website product page for YX10P
  6. I'll want to revisit this, but a while back I was experimenting, and found that I preferred using a gate block just before the amp, after drive bump blocks and such. For my experience, it seemed to be a bit more 'transparent' to my dynamics in that position than using the input gate at similar settings. I'd actually set up a test patch with a footswitch assignment that swapped them on/off to compare directly. Just a bit of extra input on the subject, since it came up.
  7. I've been reporting this bug in ongoing fashion. It goes way back, and was thought to be fixed, but has not. It seems to be either be mainly or exclusively to do with multiple assignments wherein amps are being switched. I've had other function switches which don't change amps, just other functions/parameters, and they don't seem to 'forget' their LED status. Each time there was a firmware update, I enjoyed putting it in, but loathed the fact that I'd have to go through all of my amp block-related function switches and fix their LED status every time (and I had at that point used a great many of them, especially since this predated the Snapshot feature). So, 'seconded' (I've honestly lost track of how many times I've brought this up or reiterated or supported it as I am right now).
  8. The Helix rack unit is 3U I believe G90 is 1U Helix Control - I'm pretty certain - requires 2U sized drawer etc to fit. That's 6U total for your requirements without anything else.
  9. Excellent repurposing - nicely done!
  10. Excellent evolving thread - twohandband; I hope you'll continue to update as you move toward using Helix at your gig situation wherein more complexity is required. Cheers, and congrats.

Just to confirm; I just tested this with my account (Rack/Control registered) - stayed at $99 after applying the code, same as your experience. EDIT: even when trying various permutations of the sale code, just in case it was case sensitive (I doubt this very much), or had an unspecified space in there. Meaning I tried: SALE30 SALE 30 sale30 sale 30 Sale30 Sale30 None of these worked.
  12. 1 - apparently Line 6 made certain that it would fit in a rack drawer. And yes I'm pretty certain (away from the hardware at the moment) that it wouldn't fit in a 1U, but 2U should be just fine. 2 - my controller and sundries go into an 'airport' carry on rolling bag I converted inside to work well for this (and for the PODhd/Shortboard before it) 3 - I went minimal with just a 3U Gator - everything else goes into the rolly bag. Two EXP pedals, cables etc... power is from a conditioned bar that I put into the wall and run out to the rack. 4 - no, I use the rack (I don't really prefer the Control display for the tuner, but it's usable) 5 - I use a G50 for the 'go bag' and it's stored in the upper front pocket of the rolling bag. I created a clip on 'shelf' to dual-lock the receive onto which hooks to and retained on the front face of the rack box, projecting back. I should also say that I use a backward-aimed portable Ultimate amp stand to put the rack box down low but aimed up at me - that shelf for the G50 is made to sit level when it's all set up. I created some cable minding in the back to keep those from getting pinched in the process (my only edit after the first time I tried out this set-up; I struggled to keep the power and outs to house etc. out of the way before that. Now I have 'ties' which wrap around the cables before I set it down onto the amp stand. Hope this helps in some fashion. I really prefer the clean minimal floor aspect of using the rack/control method. I got too used to that while using my bean PODhd (butt POD - lol) tied to the shortboard and extra EXP... no audio or power going to the front except the connector cable for the controller.
  13. Further to the above, to quickly go over how to do it; you simply assign both blocks to that same footswitch, doing so with them in their opposing on/off states when you do so. Your main decision then becomes this; which one do you want to have ON when the LED is lit up? As HonestOpinion says above; leveraging the Snapshot function can be a far more versatile option, especially if you require the option of having both blocks OFF at the same time. You'd have to examine your various scenarios to see which approach makes most sense. I can say in my own case, there are times when a footswitch assignment is as far as it needs to go, so long as the states of the assigned blocks always need to be in opposition.
  14. I read that earlier today - very interesting to see a highly regarded amp designer/builder talking of his embracing of technology. It's an excellent attitude to have, and it seems to have paid dividends to him in terms of exposing even more people to the characteristics of his amps; that in turn apparently resulted in more interest and sales than before. I'm all for tube technology continuing onward; I've spent time with them and honestly didn't really leverage everything I could have gotten from them, simply by way of the limitations of my environments. But, ongoing development and creating of marvellous performing amps and sound systems inspires the creating/recreation of these and similar devices within the digital domain - I'm a lot happier hauling my Helix Rack & Control setup plus guitar(s) and sundries... with my Mono dual guitar gig back on my back like a mighty turtle, I can roll into and out of any given sit-in that I've done in one trip and without help. And in the box is a wealth of sonic creative tools, many of which have come from the study of these tube devices. And this is not even touching on the various other analog and digital devices captured/recreated for our enjoyment. I have a lot of respect for Dr. Z (love the history on that name also, by the way) for taking steps to maintain the integrity of the profiles of his amps by taking that bull by the horns and creating his own profiles - if they make him happy, then they ought to satisfy anyone on the market for those profiles. It's being said often in various other topics, and worth saying here as well; it's a remarkable and plentiful time to be a musician in need of such sound systems.
  15. Just commenting; that's been one of my ongoing gripes to be honest - it's very very often been more informative to go to the unofficial sprawling TGP site to get information from the Line 6 officials than it has been to come here. It seems counterintuitive considering that this forum is the official one. Cut and paste; a link to the TGP post; anything would be helpful/useful to find here. Nothing against TGP; I follow things there as much as I can. It's just that it's a site with a high volume of traffic so it's difficult to keep up with things and see these important tidbits showing up there. I've missed them on more than one occasion because I don't have time to scan through what can often be 10 standard pages of postings in one topic from one day to the next.
  16. Interesting - and good to know! I struggled some with that, and hadn't tested it yet with 2.50 - that's excellent!
  17. Great topic, and excellent responses contributed, offering excellent advice and guidance. All I can say to reinforce the above is that my initial test patches for a given amp or similar are super simple - amp, cab(s), pre-amp gain/character booster like an overdrive, delay, and reverb. Really naked, relatively speaking. That lets me get to know the amp (or effect if that's what I'm test-driving). I'll go about seeing which drive and similar effects interact to my liking with the front end of the amp (amazing how lifelike this process is; in one instance it might be a Stupor, another the Screamer, others (and honestly - quite often) the Minotaur)... Then I play it, and hit it with different instruments (Ibanez 6 and 7-string 'shredders,' Telecasters) and see what it does. The evolution toward performance-readiness typically adds in more options for ambience or special effects... I always have a wah ready to go. Master volume type block / solo boost function... sometimes this is where things like compressors and EQs come into play, in order to fine-tune and hone the end result. But starting just as you have is an excellent way to see the relatively raw character of the signal path - the rest is often just massaging.
  18. It's 8 'functions' per footswitch - so that includes on/off status and parameter x/y adjustments and such. Powerful. That's how I accomplished a great deal with Helix prior to the introduction of Snapshots. And the OP can have the Expression pedal adjusting the parameters of multiple effects simultaneously between configurable ranges - then let footswitch assignments deal with the on/off status requirements. Snapshots would help there with the on/off functions, and the expression pedal can go about adjusting all of the parameters, regardless of whether that process block is active or not.
  19. Oh I agree. I'm on the side of the fence not fettered with any confusion over the issue. I'm referring to the small flood of questions about this aspect which have cropped up with both new style firmware installations to date. Others seem to stumble over this aspect.
  20. Most welcome. Happy landings in 2.50 land. Cheers
  21. =] Yes, this one seems like it's in the midst of some extra frenzy - probably because the nature of the additions is especially on-point to what folks have been asking for. Naturally I took a new preset and dropped in a new amp, a drive in front of it as an option, a simple delay, and then a massive gobby wash of lush stereo HX-level reverb - glorious. I've never had any issues with the ones we've had to date, but there's no denying that you can't un-hear this kind of extra depth of detail and care in crafting these new effects. ... and I won't lie; I spent a few minutes revisiting some Legacy items for goofy fun - 'yah yah yah yah' and Obi Wah and such... =] I still have my PODhd 'butt-POD' (LOL that's not going to stop being funny to me any time soon...) performance setup, plus my PODX3, so I've had access to them... just haven't leveraged that since Helix. My PODX3 is my sound test device on my work-bench, hooked to a little Tweed mini-amp as a simple noise-maker...
  22. =] I just posted that in the other thread as a 'why hasn't this become an automatic thing?' suggestion - it would side-step so many questions and confusion, I believe.
  23. You can go directly to 2.50 - and it's got the lovely lush new reverbs and interesting new amp channels (just finished initial testing etc... very nice indeed!)
  24. ... I'm surprised nobody has seemed to note one of the more obvious 'solutions' for the way the new system allows things to update to a new firmware version without purging all of the setlists etc: If Line 6 would kindly post the FACTORY 1, FACTORY 2, and TEMPLATES setlists and/or alternatively, the presets themselves, to accompany the new versions, it would save some resets/restores just to get the new versions of the presets. Not really a big problem at all, since it's quite simple to restore things - however, since we don't have methods in place yet of individually backing up 'setlist' style batch files of: Global settings IR slots ... then this would help get around these steps. I only mention this because the new streamlined methods (which are outstanding) have led to many posts asking about the new factory presets etc. Cautions would have to be attached making sure that users know that those presets are built on x.xx firmware and won't function properly/possibly at all on previous versions (which might be the essential reason this hasn't been 'officially' done to date).
  25. Watching the videos as they were unfolding during the NAMM18 show, I was particularly interested when Anderton's from the UK visited the BOSS booth - especially since Danish Pete was along with him. Pete is an exceptional and nuanced player who makes things sound good at the minimum. And I was relieved when (Captain) Lee suggested that Pete have a go at the tail of the video. ... that 'Pete Magic' didn't seem to come during that part of the segment, which was surprising. From what I've gathered, there are some excellent concepts being employed as far as processor block - for lack of knowing what BOSS's lingo for this is - 'referencing' - wherein an amp, for instance, can be tweaked and those changes are reflected in all (or possibly a user-defined sub-set - I haven't delved into the full details, but I do believe this is more the case than 'all') of the presets which call that amp up. I believe effects processes can be treated in that same manner. Like the other comments above, I didn't hear any demo segments of the GT-1000 which tweaked my ear. I hope it's more a matter of being down to more tweaking due to depth of parameters which I trust are there. I do know that I can walk up to a Katana series amp and 'blind dial' up a sound which I'll happily test guitars with etc. I'd be curious to try to walk up to a GT-1000 and try to see what I could dial in. Going by phil_m's experience, I would tend to expect to be rather lost on the controls. (Along these lines, I along with my good friend got to sit down at our 'home base' retailer and unbox and test out a HeadRush - we could not get a great sound out of that to save our lives... which was perplexing, since I've heard some genuinely impressive sounds pulled from those - Marco Fanton for instance has demonstrated several. Maybe IRs become a big factor there.) I guess I'm biased, but I have gone into that same retailer where they had set up a Helix Floor on a stand, a Yorkville Elite 10" powered speaker, and I brought a guitar, plugged in, and dialed up a simple multi-purpose Snapshot patch with nothing but onboard cabs etc, and had some great tones in very very short order. Incidentally, Yorkville YX10P powered speakers work AMAZINGLY well for FRFR type applications with Helix - incredibly consistent with my experience dialing sounds and then comparing to direct into a SoundCraft board pushing Mackie 12" mains. I think I posted somewhere on the forum here about that. I run a pair of them at home, and my computer can be routed to them as well =]
