  1. What works well is to take the analog audio output of the playback device (ipod, cellphone, etc.) via 1/8" Stereo to dual TS Male 1/4" Left and Right. The 3' HOSA brand cable I got for a few dollars via Amazon works great! Plug into the Helix FX Returns for Stereo and Assign an FX Loop Return Block. There is a Level Parameter in the FX Loop Block, but I find it preferable to also add a Gain Block after the FX Loop Block and adjust the volume in the Gain Block. Even if you do not assign a Gain Block, you can use Helix's Pedal Edit mode for foot adjustment of the Return FX Loop Volume Level. As another alternative, you could also change the Input Block on Path 1B, or 2, to use the FX Loop and bring the analog audio in on that path rather than using an FX Loop Block on Path 1A. You will need to recreate this for each Preset. You could Save it as a Template.
  2. It's also the best method I found to hear how the different Amp+Cab Block models and Amp, PreAmps, and Cab Block models interplay. Assigning the Blocks to a footswitch Bypass allows for sequential isolating the Blocks you want hear as compared to those you wish to Bypass.
  3. Aside from sweeping the parameter through it's value spectrum to experience how it affects and interacts with the Amp's other parameters and blends with any other aspects of the overall signal chain, is to read up on the actual Amp modeled. This can be found on the HelixHelp.com site, (as well as other resources regarding the amp models in Helix).
  4. Not aware of how many Scene settings Fractal supports per Patch or Preset. With Helix each Preset supports Eight (8) Snapshots (if you choose to use Snapshots). You could define what you consider to be your "Global Lead" and Save that as a Template. Then, Copy and Paste that Template into each Preset you create in Helix, so that the Template occupies One (1) of your Eight (8) Snapshots. You would need to do this for each Preset you create in which you want direct access to your "Global Lead" Snapshot. There are some constraints regarding Amp and Cab selections per Preset that apply to Snapshots.
  5. Each of you should submit a Support Ticket to Line 6 documenting what you are encountering. Doing so is the best way to bring this to Line 6's attention (if they are not already aware of the symptom). They may also want you to submit your problematic Preset(s), for examination. So be sure to save them if you still have them on your Helix. There is a new firmware (version 2.20) due before Month's end. As, each firmware release includes a variety of general improvements and bug stability fixes (that are not otherwise specifically nor individually identified), it is possible that by the time you upgrade to version 2.20 and import or regenerate your previously problematic Presets, the problem may be gone. If not, at least you will already have submitted the Support Ticket and have preserved your problematic Presets. It is also possible that the symptom is a result of the firmware more so than a particular Preset. Nonetheless, each of you have observed the behavior and will know when it no longer persists.
  6. HudsonHawk: Congrats on opting to go Helix! In addition to the outstanding member response and support here on the Line 6 Helix User Support Forums, also check out the thriving Helix Thread(s) on TheGearPage.net. Together these are exceptional resources. If you're a Facebook user, there are also users there.
  7. How do you have your Helix connected to your FRFR Monitor? How is your FRFR Monitor configured? Does it have input level switches for Line vs. Instrument Levels, If i thas a Volume control how do you have that set?
  8. That would be hysterical; and it is a Saturday!
  9. I voted this up, too! This should be implemented directly on the Helix, and not solely via using the Editor! Frankly, it is quite surprising this is not already a feature. And, once you were to save a scratch preset or use the snapshots to accomplish this, there are no directly supported methods to simply wipe a Preset back to a "New Preset" unused status. You still need to copy an empty New Preset and paste it on top of a used preset or painstakingly Remove the Blocks and revert the Input and Output Block settings. In 2017, it is uncommon to find such Last Century operating system methods, particularly in dedicated devices developed within the last several years as is the case with Helix. If I'm not too far off, I believe Helix was approx four years in the making and was released in mid-2016. Hopefully, this year it will see a significant OS firmware revamp with 3.0.
  10. Carl, your effort was not wasted. The forthcoming firmware 2.20 is expected before month's end. As you just did the 2.12 update, you're now familar with the process and will be good to go when 2.20 arrives.
  11. You may also want to check out Marco Fanton's many YouTube Helix videos. As I recollect, Marco uses the DBR10. You can also find his posts on the TGP Helix Thread. Feel free to email him or PM him with questions.
  12. If Weekends, Fridays, and Today, are eliminated, only Eleven (11) Release Days remain this month........... (<-- That's an 11 dot ellipses) ;)
  13. Helix's Stereo Headphone Out Jack (1/4" TRS) and independent Headphone Volume knob can also come in handy as another level control point to drive an IEM feed, or powered independent Monitor.
  14. I chose a pair of the DXR10 for their more versatile Inputs and Wedge position capability, (and compact size and lighter weight than the often suggested DXR12). The DBR10 sound nearly identical to the DXR10. I did not listen to the 8" version of either. It would stand to reason that the 10" will deliver more bottom end, particularly if it is positioned horizontally or stood vertically to acoustically couple with the floor rather than elevated on a pole or on an amp stand. Overall the Yamaha DBR and DXR sound very good. If you plan to be using either as a personal Monitor they should work well so long as they are not too near field. For PA, depending on the size of the room you wish to fill with sound, this will affect what size works best for your needs.
  15. We'll you could use it in the AuxIn, or the FX Returns if you otherwise had a wired guitar in the Main Guitar In. And, I've never tried doing so, but another thread earlier today was discussing phase shifting doubled tracks (either real time or re-amped). This gave me the idea that the G10's XLR out could be used to the Helix Mic In CLR (or via an XLR to 1/4" TS cable to the Aux In) and put in Path 1B or 2A or 2B with a slight delay or phasing or other FX to achieve what sounds like a doubled track of the same part.
  16. Compared to the user expectations for file management in current day applications running on a current computer, the existing Helix Editor program sure leaves a lot to be desired. I don't think I am alone in expecting that the forthcoming overhauled Helix Editor will be more contemporary. We'll know once it's released.
  17. Here's a recap of my IdeaScale suggestions; Oldest listed first. Vote 'em up! 18. After 2.20 is released (and assuming there are no short term interim 2.2x fixes), and once Helix Native and the new Helix Editor debut later this Spring, I would not be at all surprised to see Helix firmware evolve directly to 3.00. I like to be optimistic in these sorts of things. :)
  19. You've probably already considered this, but the Helix already has a slant to the top of the. As you are custom fabricating your own board, you may want to consider whether sinking or recessing the Helix into your custom board may offer additional benefits to protect the jacks and work out better for you. Just a thought....
  20. Bear in mind that the G10's 1/4" output has a fixed 10' Cabletone equivalent applied. The XLR output does not! Both outputs may be used simultaneously. With the Helix this provides lots of possibilities aside from simply running a 1/4" into the Main Guitar In.
  21. There are two Parameters! One sets the Minimum Value. The other sets the Maximum Value. Be sure to check and set each for what you want.
  22. Scottadkins19, Regarding your Vol pedal issue, I'm presuming you have a Volume Block defined. Check the Minimum Value Parameter to be see if that may be set to the 34% value you are encountering.
  23. BTW, for any computer inclined Helix users, there is a great free PC utility program by the name of PortMon. It can be very useful to debug what's going on with USB port activity. In assisting with the development of some Amateur Radio rig control an editing software that interfaced with the Transceiver via USB, this program was able to show the pounding the USB port was subjected to by the software and the rig. It is not entirely dissimilar from what is likely going on when Helix is USB computer connected for use with Helix Editor and/or DAW/VST. It has been a few years since I've used the program, but it is incredibly revealing! Not sure if it is also available for Mac.
  24. pstenton, care to share the make and model of the culprit computer with the problematic USB?
