  1. I'd still be worried about how I move on stage. I'm thinking a couple of pieces of light weight plastic to raise the unit up enough to run the cable under and out the front, should prevent it from dragging across the top and still let me move back and forth without being paranoid.
  2. I wonder if there is much difference in the sound between your two guitars when playing unplugged? When I got my Korean, the maple / rosewood neck gave it a real nice acoustic tone and sustain. I lost some of that with the mahogany / bubinga neck I got from Warmouth, which is thinner than the maple. I can't say whether any of that translates to when I'm plugged in and playing next to a loud drummer, but acoustically there was a difference.
  3. Nice video. I really like the white and maple US that you bought. I put a really nice Warmouth neck on my Korean JTV69 and it's now my #1 for gigging. Since I set all of my Helix patches up for the Variax, I'm concerned that if something happens to mine, I'll be in a panic for the next gig. So, I'm thinking of getting a backup. But since I still only have about $1,200 in mine and have a neck with SS frets which I love, I'll probably go Korean again and change the neck. But for home use, I would consider a US version. I'm sure a lot of guys will find your video useful when trying to make that decision for themselves.
  4. I would have agreed with this until two nights ago. I managed to drag my Variax cable over the Helix while practicing, and switched snapshots in the middle of a song. Now I'm thinking of making a platform to raise it just 1/2" off the floor, so I can wrap the Variax cable under it, and prevent that from happening during a gig.
  5. Are you turning up your guitar volume knob to do the solo's? If so, that may be part of your problem. I found when I had a fairly crunchy rhythm tone going, that turning up my guitar volume for a solo would just add mud. I now create a snapshot for solo only, which usually involves tweaking the amp settings and adding an eq block for boost. I tend to pull the amp master volume down a little to clean up the tone, and add some presences to make it cut better.
  6. Plus, the Helix is about as heavy as I want it to be right now. I wouldn't want it any heavier.
  7. Nice video Jon. Great tone and great playing. I'm getting back into my Strat's more and more lately, myself. It's funny how we go in circles with tone chasing. There's a factory patch in the Helix called Texas Flood. It has a dual Fender / Marshall amp setup, with an A/B switch that can be set for what ever percentage of each amp you want. I had a lot of fun with that patch and my Strat yesterday.
  8. I didn't know that they had a special for the floor unit and backpack. It makes no difference to me. I'm happy with my Helix, and I'd prefer that they spend their resources towards continuing to evolve it, rather than on sending out free swag, for no reason. But that's just me.
  9. You guys seem to be missing that the promo is for the Helix RACK, and floor controller. I can see that these units are probably not moving as fast as the floor model.
  10. Thanks. I'm pretty sure that email will be long gone. I might try emailing Freman about it. I'm generally happy with the tones I get from the stock models. But any little improvement is always a good thing. I'm glad you were able to fix the plink issue. When I first got my JTV, I wasn't crazy about the feel of the neck and frets. But after putting a Warmouth neck on it, and playing it for several months, I'm pretty pleased with it. I really hope it doesn't get buggy on me at some point. Between the Helix and the Variax, I've taken a big bite of high tech guitar playing and I don't really want to go back.
  11. I bought Freman's Helix presets, I think it was 175 of them, but didn't get anything on the Variax that I know of. Luckily, I don't have a plink issue with my JTV-69. Since that is my #1 now and all of my Helix presets have Variax settings, I'd hate for it to start acting up. The one time during rehearsal that my Variax cable quit working and then the battery went dead, our drummer asked why I don't just play a normal guitar!
  12. That's a nice looking Variax. I'm assuming that it's a U.S. version? Interested to hear how you like it.
  13. Is that a Standard or Traditional? I've been wanting a Standard HP, but I don't really need it. The Honeyburst with natural back, has caught my eye. Congratulations.
  14. I have no problem getting feedback from my Helix at band levels and have been using it as an effect pretty regular. But this pedal takes the feedback control to a new level. This may be the first pedal I've bought since getting the Helix.
  15. The OP initially complained he couldn't get a good crunch tone. I don't see where he has his MV set. On all of the Helix amps, if you want more power section distortion, turn up the MV.
  16. I'm not a heavy reverb user. A little goes a long way and I have been fine with the Helix reverbs for nearly 8 months, until a few days ago. I was dialing in a new patch and I was playing a particular riff and I was getting some weird non musical harmonics every time I turned on the reverb block. I tried a couple of different reverb models and the result was the same. I plugged my HOF pedal into a send / return and that made a big difference. This made me realize that some of the cork sniffers that have been complaining about the Helix reverbs might actually have a good ear. ;) So no big scientific break through here, but I guess there's probably room for improvement. Something for a future update maybe.
  17. Looks nice, but I'm not their demographic. Alternate tuning for me means Eb! That's when I'm feeling kind of wild. ;)
  18. I have a JP15 that should work for this patch. Thanks.
  19. Variax issues? I'll skip .12 and wait for a sequel.
  20. Ok, a project to add to the list. I've actually only been into WB once. I guess it's time to learn it and see what I can come up with. I like the mags better than the spank models. Thanks.
  21. I'm assuming I need to build each position up in WB by ear, which is what Smashcraaft probably did with his '59's pups. I just wondered if there was a short cut, probably not.
  22. So help a dummy to understand. I have a JTV69. I like the sound of my mag pickups. If I wanted to have my mag pups as a model that could be saved in a Helix patch, how would I go about that?
  23. I'm sure it's amazing, but I have no gas, I'm good. I could never play like Sarah. I'm good with that too.
  24. Smart man! I have no bugs that I know of. If I see any, I'll call a fumigator.
