Thanks, psarkissian. A lot of good info there. 16" radius is certainly flat enough. You don't happen to know the depth at the 1st and 12th frets, do you? My slimmest neck is my EBMM JP15: .717" @ 1st fret, .759" @ 12th fret. My Warmouth Standard Thin is: .813" @ 1st fret, .861" @ 12th fret. This makes the Warmouth a little thinner than most of my medium profile guitars, but not as super thin as my JP15. I could probably live with something in between these two neck profiles.

I've been told that the 89 neck is thin, but not as thin as an Ibenez Wizard neck. I've never played a Wizard and I don't see any specs for that neck on the Ibenez site. So that doesn't help much. Actual measurements really help me, because I measure all of my guitars and that lets me compare specs to what I have. As far as width of the neck. That would be controlled by the nut size, unless the neck widens from the nut as you go up. So 1.75" would normally be the largest for a six string, which works out to 44mm. Most of my necks are at 42, 43mm. So I don't think the width is going to concern me too much. My JTV69 neck was kind of chunky. I changed it out for a Warmouth Standard Thin profile and I like it very much. Unfortunately the 89 neck can't be changed out for a Warmouth.

I'm in the one preset for each song, several snapshots for different sections of that song, club. I admit, I use the 2204 and Litigator for a lot of songs. But there's quite a few songs where those amps just don't work. Plus, I'm a tweaker, so I don't mind putting in the time to know that I'm giving the audience a wide variety of tones over the course of the night.

I never heard mahogany described as a bright wood. I wonder how often he will use that guitar?

JTV89 Questions
specracer986 replied to specracer986's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Okay, I feel like I'm getting to know the 89 a bit better. The neck sounds like it might work for me. I appreciate the info on the trem. I do a lot of bending, so a stabilizer and good setup might be the way to go. I'm not fond of jumbo fret wire, but that can be changed. It's sounding like a contender. -
JTV89 Questions

Two more questions: 1. Anyone know what size the fret wire is? 2. Can the neck be changed out with a Warmouth neck like I did with my JTV69? -
JTV89 Questions
specracer986 replied to specracer986's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
That clears up one thing. I looked at an ad for a used one without a FR, and I mistakenly thought I saw a hole for a trem arm. Looking again I see it's a stop tail piece. I want a working trem, so I guess if I go for an 89, I'll be experiencing a FR. Thanks. -

I'm considering getting a JTV89 as a back up to my JTV69. I have a couple of questions: 1. How thin is the neck? Does anyone have measurements at the 1st and 12th frets? I'm wondering if it's as thin as my JP15, which is .717" at the 1st, and .759" at the 12th. Or more like a Warmouth Standard Thin, which I don't have the measurements with me. I kind of like my Warmouth Standard Thin, which has a little more wood than my JP15. 2. What is the trem like if I don't get the Floyd Rose. I've never had a FR and I'm fine with the trem on my 69, so I wonder if I want to go into uncharted waters, for me, by getting a FR.

how to make your bridge pickup sound like your neck pickup..?
specracer986 replied to iamgeorge's topic in Helix
What would be really cool is if you could create a Leslie effect by having the pick up slowly slide back and forth as you were playing! Maybe powered by noiseless gerbils!! -

Interesting discussion guys. This is why I come here!

Sort of an anti scooped deal. Metal heads may be perplexed.

how to make your bridge pickup sound like your neck pickup..?
specracer986 replied to iamgeorge's topic in Helix
If I was going to order a one pickup guitar, I'd probably set the pickup closer to the middle position to give a little leeway in the settings. I'm the opposite. I like soloing on the neck pickup and try to dial in bite and bright without the ice pickiness that I hate in a lot of bridge pickups. -
The magnetic pickups on my JTV69 are a bit hotter and sound different than the Spank model. So I don't think you can expect them to sound exactly the same. Truthfully, with my play back speakers, I'm not hearing anything that sounds wrong with yours in the video. Your dull B and E could very well be old strings. But, this is just an opinion made from far away, so you know what that's worth. I would try some contact cleaner down where the string rides over the saddle. Be careful not to get the cleaner on your guitars finish.

Best method of setting patches levels to the same volume??
specracer986 replied to JLEpperson's topic in Helix
Helix is capable of doing what you want. You're new to it, and don't know how to set it up to get what you want. I play in a cover band. Here's how I set things up, that will probably work for you. Each song gets it's own preset. Each preset will hold all of the effects blocks that that song requires. Possibly even two amps I set up a different snapshot for each part of the song that needs a different tone. All of the changed parameters of the effects, need to be saved specifically to that snapshot. Look up a youtube video that will tell you how to do that. So I'll have a snapshot for an intro that will have different effect settings than the snapshot for the verses, which will have different effect settings than the snapshot for the solo. Any of the snapshots can turn on a second amp and turn off the first amp, but again that needs to be saved specifically to the snapshot. There is no delay or gap in sound when switching from snapshot to snapshot. -
Hairy (not the good kind) on notes and tones. Digital Clipping?

This is probably a dumb question, but how do you change it back to a .hls file? I tried renaming it, and Windows just added .txt to what I put in. I tried an audio conversion program, but it doesn't have .hls as an option. -

Have you tried a noise gate? It'll work wonders for certain patches and amps. I can't think of any amps I've owned that don't start to get noisy when kicking on an OD pedal or dialing up the gain. Which is why there's a noise gate on my pedal board.- 121 replies

I'm wondering how you all actually adjust the volume between snapshots. I used to tweak the volume of different effects and the amp channel. But sometimes that would change the tone I had set up for the snapshot. So I started to raise or lower the volume of each snapshot at the output block. This seems to be working pretty well for me. Is this how you guys adjust volume between snapshots?

I have a Helix, I have a Katana 100 combo. I've never plugged the two together. When I first got my Helix, I used it with several tube and SS amps with various routing configurations. After I got my Yamaha DXR12, I felt it was a much better match for the Helix and I quit experimenting with other amps. The Katana has a single guitar cab type speaker. The new Line 6 Spider V has a 2 way flat response type speaker. I would think the Spider V might fill the role you're thinking about a little better than the Katana. I like my Katana a lot. I've just never considered using it as a Helix amp. I use it for practice at home and as a grab and go combo for jam nights.

Gaffs tape? That I also thought about. Carrying a roll of sticky tape in my gig bag doesn't sound like a good thing. But, to be totally safe, I might raise the unit, run the cable under, and tape it down for good measure. I guess I can put the tape in a plastic bag.
