  1. some have even baby stepped up through the firmwares to get there... but yeah i've flashed from an older version to a newer version... because the structure of those updates are significantly different it tends to overwrite lingering bad flash parameters (in my experience)
  2. yeah just rename the file to have the same 3 characters after the . as in filename.ext to filename.xt2 etc
  3. not automatic... you can change the file extension.. drag and drop... or use the 3rd party utility here: http://line6.com/support/topic/2164-pod-hd-tone-conversion-utility/ keep in mind that all of these methods work for the most part, but is not officially a supported operation.
  4. for the most part you can interchange the presets.... however if you build something on the 500x that uses the extra horsepower it may not work on the 500. as long as you keep that in mind and accept the limitation... you should be fine.
  5. there have been bad flashes, and even users that ultimately had hardware issues. I think that the HD models can stress the hardware and unveil defects that weren't obvious with the lesser firmwares... (in no way an official statement....) my theory based on nothing more than knowing that some users have had experiences like yours and others have not. just because you've seen a handful of posts, or even pages and pages of posts (by the same users in multiple threads...) does not mean that the overall experience is like yours... notice... i'm not saying you don't have any issues... just that those issues cannot be assumed to be typical.... especially in the manner in which you suggest... being that they gradually change tone... (far from a common complaint.) i would try several reflashes... even all the way back to 1.7x then directly forward to 2.1, keep no models.. etc i've seen reflashes do wonders... although not fix everything.
  6. people say the same thing about the older pod's (2.0) being easier to dial in as well... i think the older modeling tech required more liberties with the models, and produced a more idealized version of things.... the newer modeling in many cases also includes some of the nuances of the authentic stuff... often not fitting into that idealized category that many of us long time modeling users have become accustomed. I've heard many people complain about volume differences in the HD models... I like that, it's more authentic... having had many guitars over the years, and currently sitting on about 30... I'm confident in saying that they do not all play at the same volume. in fact often times the dynamics are what sets them apart. that's not to say that the difference in string volume from model to model is normal.... or that people are imagining these things... just saying that much of the differences, are intentional. i personally love the 2.1 update... but haven't had the issues that other have.
  7. I've updated the title to better reflect the intent of your post. the community understands and respects your frustration, please be respectful to the community in return. If you'd like your request to be heard by the product managers within line6 i suggest you pursue that here: http://line6.ideascale.com/
  8. get and run slimdrivers... there are many other usb and chipset drivers that could be affecting your audio performance... and +100 remove ASIO4ALL.
  9. the red-faced models do not come with the plugin license.. that's the primary difference. there is a 30 day money back guarantee.
  10. if you buy a license for 2.5x it will include access to the plugins. that i can confirm. If you're GX is a blackfaced pod studio model it should have access to the plugins using pod farm 1.x HOWEVER... pod farm 1.x does not have 64 bit plugins... and pod farm 2.x does... so if you're using certain software the 32 bit plugins will not work (or vice versa) not aware of any cubase specific limitations on that... but many other softwares have this issue (the new logic pro x on mac for example... 64bit only...)
  11. Just received confirmation, that Line6 is aware of this intends to have their software installers updated before the official release of Yosemite.

  13. the presets are programmed into the amp.... and the amp is controlled by the pedal (the pedal adds nothing more than an alternate way to control existing features) you are correct though, there is no way to specify the bank without the app... I've had other line6 amps that had banks built in, but you had to have the shortboard to get to them (no app) so in that respect the app is an improvement... i've had and compared both the express and the shortboard... and i know that's just how it works... anything else i was suggesting, was only my own assumptions etc... i do think it's safe to assume that the functionality of the current express will not change... however, ideascale and your opinion could possibly help with the next generation of flooroard (and its pretty much about time for one!) http://line6.ideascale.com/
  14. i didn't say you couldn't ask for what you want... all i said that was when you stated your ASSUMPTION "they could easily..." that it was inaccurate. based on my own ASSUMPTION... that if it was... they would have done it long ago... on other amps or pods. Let's ASSUME that we are both wrong... perhaps they don't intend to implement it, because that makes the shortboard more attractive.... either way i think its safe to ASSUME that they aren't going to do it for the Amplifi.... because they didn't do it for the others.... (this was my main point...)
  15. I use chrome, with the ietab addon for the few times i need to use IE. (also recommend adblock plus!)
  16. that's a highly inaccurate assumption... they have had amps and pods that have used the FBV express for nearly a decade before the Amplifi was released and this sort of feature has not been implemented.... the 2 most likely reasons... A: it's not as easy as you think (or not possible at all) B: it's the primary selling point to the shortboard. in either case (or whatever other reasons you can thing of....) it has not been changed in nearly a decade, and that says to me... it isn't likely to change now. if you want to switch banks... buy the shortboard.
  17. this thread is very old... 2.1 has since been released... many of the real "issues" have been addressed with the newer release... any subjective issues will continue to exist... being personal preference.... although there is always the possibility of a bad flash, poor setup, or other hardware issues, etc that may affect the expected performance.
  18. this problem was in another thread.... Yosemite is identified as 10.1 (dropping the 0) and does not pass the requirements,.... whether its a mac issue or a monkey issue... it just doesn't work, and is not likely to be acknowledged either way by line6 until the OS comes out of beta... which is about a week from now...
  19. as long as it's FBV it will work... (obviously limited by it's simplicity)
  20. the option should exist, i believe that you should see an input 3/4 from the GX/pod farm which would be the dry signal. I'm not 100% sure though because i've been using a different interface for quite a while.
  21. gearbox plugin is no longer supported, but using pod farm 1.x should be a free option.. (pod farm 2.x is not a free upgrade)
  22. you do not set the input z based on the guitar you have... input z is affected by the first effect in your chain.... set to AUTO the input z will use the authentic input z of the modeled pedal... some people don't like to have their tone affected in this way, and prefer a static setting..... this feature was not available in earlier firmwares... and the default then was 1m so this feature allowed those users to revert the setting back to 1m so as to not change the tones that they made.... i personally would recommend the AUTO setting... as i want to learn the nuances and work within the confines of the actual pedals being modeled... but it is YOUR tone... so use whatever setting that pleases you... there really isn't a "RIGHT" setting... and the guitar you use... does not matter in regards to this setting.
  23. it can be the fastest way.. but it's all just contributing users, and we might know alot, but the official support guys see many things we don't.
  24. have you tried working directly with support yet? http://line6.com/company/contact/ they would likely have a few more tricks.... calling would be better... but support tickets work.. just slower.
  25. sudo only elevates the commands after it to run as administrator... the verbage above seems to indicate that the drivers are not installed... is your user account an admin on your machine? also not sure if this applies.... but you may need to change your computer language to english... as i've seen some issues occur just due to other languages.... (can be changed back after driver install....)
