What if you reverse those connections (plug the Helix's left out into the amp's right return, and vice versa)? Do you still only get sound out of the right speaker?
-
So have you actually tried connecting two cables from the Helix to the stereo return? Like one from the Helix's left 1/4" out to the left return and another one from the Helix's right 1/4" out to the right return?

I'm not sure what an "idle beep" is, but getting additional noise while having the HX Effects connected to your computer via USB and to your amp at the same time is pretty common. It's a ground loop caused by the USB connection. There are ways to lift the ground, but given that you only have the noise while editing, it may be just be one of those things you live with.

Have you tried putting a dummy cable in the amp's FX send?
-
Turn the knob labeled "Middle" while in Tuner Mode, and you'll see the reference pitch change on the display (it only displays the last digit). Just set it back to "0" for A440.

I think the forums are a kind of support. A lot of people ask questions that other users are able to help them with still. There a separate link from the "Technical Support" section, so I think it's OK. I guess Line 6 could be more explicit about what types of issues people should open tickets for and whatnot. But that sort of stuff seems to happen on all manufacturer forums. As far as the "old guys", I won't comment... I think I'm the youngest one left, and I'm not as young as I used to be... :-) I still play in two bands if that helps.

DI has explained it several times... Posting on forums isn't something that part of any Line 6 employee's job description. They do it because they want to, and a good bit of the time, they're doing it outside of normal work hours, including weekends and holidays. I know DI posts not only on TGP, but on a bunch of other forums and Facebook. As to why they don't post here that often, I think a big part of it is that these forums simply don't have much traffic compared to other forums. The huge Helix thread over on TGP has almost 4.5 million views currently. I doubt even if you added up all the views from every thread on this forum that there would be that many. The main thing is these are user forums more than anything else. Their main purpose is for users to interact with each other. Yes, we get news about updates and such, but they aren't a main communication vehicle for Line 6 right now. There just isn't nearly the use that other forms of social media get nowadays.

Well, anything posted on TGP isn't private as it's a public forum. And while I guess it's true their statements aren't "on the record" in the same way an official Line 6 press release would be, these are people who know the unit in and out because they're the ones who designed it. Eric Klein, aka, Digital Igloo on the TGP, is the Chief Product Design Architect for Yamaha (his title used to be product manager). He's the one that writes the manuals, btw. Not really sure why you're arguing with me about this...

Ben Adrian is a Line 6 employee... The head sound designer for the Helix, to be exact. It's as reliable as you're going to get.

This is where the information about the large volume knob comes from: https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?posts/22000181/ "The big volume knob for 1/4" and XLR out is digital. Therefor it reduces the volume level in the digital domain before the D->A conversion. The headphone D->A converter gets an un-attenuated digital signal. The headphone volume level is a stereo analog pot after the D-A conversion."

I wouldn't call leaving information out of the manual the same as "erratum". It's only in error if it's clearly incorrect. I think Line 6 tries to minimize the length and scope of the manuals just because they're trying to not scare casual users away (those sorts of users far outnumber the hardcore technical-minded guys). The above is incorrect. The only analog pot on the Floor and Rack is the headphone volume pot, and I'm like 99% certain that the master volume knob on the LT is digital as well. It comes before the final D/A converters (so no analog pots on the LT). This is why leaving the master volume all the way up is a good idea while creating your tones. It means that if you create tones that don't clip the final converters in that scenario, you never have to worry about clipping them.

It may be the delay trying to "catch up" to the new tempo (assuming you have tempo set to Per Preset or Per Snapshot). Try going to Global Settings>Preferences>Tap Tempo Pitch and set it to "Transparent". This will suppress pitch artifacts when changing delay times.

Well, you can use your Crybaby as a wah, but I was thinking of an external expression pedal, similar to the Mission Engineering EP1-L6.
-
I imagine you’re talking about the expression pedal, not the footswitches. Unfortunately, because of the nature of that particular issue, there isn’t a way to trace it by serial number. It seems, though, that all of the affected units are pretty much out in the wild and probably have broken by now. If you buy a new unit from a large retailer, I would think the chances of getting one now would be very slim. One thing I’d add is if you use an external expression pedal, you could make it through shows if you absolutely had to.

Get a long extension cord and keep the wall wart close to the HD500X... I mean, any power supply is liable to get broken when being stepped on. Or are you saying that the barrel end of the power supply was ripped out of the back of the HD500X? A right angle adapter like this may help: https://www.amazon.com/BiXPower-2-5mm-Dongle-Connector-Converter/dp/B01B8I4LFW

It comes down to a hardware difference. The fact of the matter is Line 6 using (and always has used) a simple TS circuit for their expression pedals. The vast majority of other manufacturers are using a TRS scheme. This Strymon article from a few years ago explains how a TRS expression pedal works. Basically, a TRS pedal works by "seeing" the voltage coming back on the tip (the control voltage from pedal is sent out on the ring). Line 6 pedals are simply sensing the voltage on the tip. The potentiometer in the pedal is acting like voltage sink. This means that Line 6 pedals are more sensitive to the value of the potentiometer in the pedal. The Helix accounts for this somewhat through auto-calibration, and some TRS pedals seem to work, but other will never work. This is a typical schematic for a TRS expression pedal: This is the schematic for a Line 6 expression pedal:

Any parameter that you want to have values recalled with preset changes needs to be assigned to a snapshot controller (or any controller, really). The shortcut for assigning a parameter to a snapshot controller for the unit itself is to push and turn the knob for that parameter. When you do that, you’ll see brackets appear around the parameter, indicating that it’s now assigned to a snapshot controller.

What is your setup? Are you using the 4CM? If so, you'd actually never want to turn the FX Loop block off in the HX Effects, because doing so would cause your amp's preamp to be bypassed. Which is maybe what's happening here. Btw, the one post above saying you have to use the 4CM to use your amp's preamp is incorrect. You can put the HX Effects in your amp's effects loop and use it for time-based effects only, like you mentioned in your original post. That will work fine.
-
Yes, you can an effect or multiple effects assigned to the same footswitch you have the EXT AMP command assigned to in the Command Center.
-
It sounds like the OP accidentally switched to Stomp Mode and didn’t have anything assigned to the bottom row of stomps. If you see blank scribble strips, it usually means you’re in Stomp Mode and haven’t assigned anything to those footswitches. Hit the Mode footswitch to get out of Stomp Mode.
-
Do they say something other than “Bank” or are they blank?
-
Are you saying the original loop is still playing while you go back to Stomp Mode? This came up a few months ago, and I couldn't repeat the behavior. Although maybe I'm not understanding what people are expecting.

Do you have a Mac or a PC? The .dmg package is for Macs only. For Windows, it's an .exe file.

I don’t think there disappointing at all... I mean there’s a lot of variability in analog delay circuits across the board. I still have the Chase Bliss Tonal Recall RKM pedal, and I think the Adriatic Delay compares very well to it. I mean, honestly, I think keeping the pedal is redundant, but I like it... I also have that Behringer Memory Man clone... It’s kind of fun if for making noise, but good for much else.

You need to treat those parameters like any other parameters you want change with snapshots - they need to be assigned to snapshot controllers. Push and turn the knob under the parameter on the unit itself to do that, or in HX Edit, simply right click on the parameter value and select Snapshot from the pulldown menu.
