  1. There are a bunch of companies that make gels... Rosco is just kind of the go-to for lighting people. Here's a cheap version: https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/0-6-Nd-Neutral-Density-Lighting-Filter-GEL-Theatre-DJ-Disco-24cm-X-24cm-Par-64/1288306021?iid=160730139041
  2. You can get lighting gels for like $7 a sheet and cut your own strips to lay across the scribble strips. You could just tape them down. The Rosco Light Grey would cut the intensity by 50%: https://www.amazon.com/Rosco-Roscolux-Effects-Lighting-Filter/dp/B0002Z80CI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1541531765&sr=8-1&keywords=rosco+light+grey

Well, technically you can, but the best way to do that is to use a direct box, which would actually convert the unbalanced signal to a balanced signal. Simply connecting balanced cables to an unbalanced jack will not make it balanced. You’ll get a signal, but the signal will be attenuated by about 3dB.
  4. Open up a support ticket. Line 6 will replace it.
  5. It takes quite a bit of force to engage the toe switch. Pressing it gently isn’t enough.
  6. No, it doesn’t have the EXT AMP jacks like the Helix and HX Effects have. You could look into doing that via MIDI, as the Stomp will send MIDI PCs with preset changes, but even those are static, so it would somewhat limiting.
  7. Interesting idea... How do you envision it would work graphically?
  8. Pops and cracks in the audio stream are not usually the fault of the driver. It’s usually something else causing a buffer underrun in your system. It’s worth downloading and installing latencymon (http://www.resplendence.com/latencymon) to see where the problems are originating from.
  9. Stomp presets and setlists can’t be imported into Native currently. You can copy and paste blocks from HX Edit into Native, but beyond that, there’s no cross-compatibility right now.
  10. I'm not sure I understand everything in your post correctly, but one thing to remember is that the Instant Messages are sent when the preset loads as well as when you trigger a new snapshot.
  11. HX Stomp files can't be loaded into the Rack or Floor. If you have both devices, you can have the Stomp and the Floor (or Rack) connected to HX Edit at the same time (each will have its own window), and you can copy and paste blocks from the Stomp preset into a preset on the Floor.
  12. That' That's not HX Edit... That's the original editor that was simply called "Helix". Make sure you select HX Edit from the middle pulldown menu in the Downloads page.
  13. No... You load IRs onto the Helix using HX Edit. It can be downloaded here: https://line6.com/software/
  14. The Helix isn't compatible with Monkey, so the JTV can't be updated with the Helix. You need to use either the little VDI interface that comes with the JTV or some other Monkey-compatible VDI-enabled device (like the HD500 or HD500X).
  15. Eats power? I mean, it's high current compared to other stompboxes, yes, but it's still just over 1A at 9V, so you're talking maybe 20W... As long as everything is hooked up correctly, noise shouldn't necessarily be an issue. The thing is, though, that noise is always possible in some setups inherently. The 4CM is always potentially tricky because anytime you have multiple connections between the same two pieces of equipment, you will most likely have ground loops to deal with. This isn't Line 6's fault - it's just basic electrical engineering.
  16. Like anything electronic, it totally depends on the nature of the repair. If it's something relatively minor, it would probably not be too bad. If it's something major, like one of the board needs replaced, that could be quite costly, and it would likely eat up any of the savings you saw buying used versus new. Are you sure the original owner doesn't have the receipt? If he bought it online, he could likely track it down. Honestly, I would be hesitant to spend a lot of money on any piece of used electronic equipment without a warranty. Generally, I think the Helix stuff is reliable, but you never know what can happen.
  17. If there's a big temperature difference between where the transmitters are being stored and where you're using them, that could account for the discrepancy. It seems to me that once I get down to around two hours on the indicator, that batteries drain more quickly after that. I typically just use Amazon's house brand of AAs. I'm usually good getting two shows or two or three rehearsals from a set of batteries. If I'm doing a long show, I usually just change the batteries regardless. I guess I always just treat the battery indicator as more of a very general indicator of how much I've used the batteries more than an accurate indication of how much time I have left. Once it gets down below 4 hours, I know I'll have to change them soon.
  18. That sounds like something else... The noise from the faulty units is a hiss, more like a white noise. It sounds like you're describing 60-cycle hum which is symptomatic of some other issue.
  19. Just install the latest update... That's all you need.
  20. I've never seen Line 6 say that anywhere... What Ben Adrian, the chief Helix sound design guy, said was that separating the power amps out from the preamps is a challenge because of the interaction between the preamps and the power amp.
  21. Hmm... Can't say I've seen similar complaints anywhere else about the update. It's very odd that the tuner would be displaying a note with not input. I'd suggest opening up a support ticket.
  22. It won't hurt it. It may attenuate the signal, and it may sound bad, but nothing will be damaged.
  23. Do you have the effects loop you're using set to instrument level in the Global Settings menu?
  24. In order to get 4CM to work, you just have to make it so the device with the VDI is the first thing you plug into. So, using the 500X as an example (the Firehawk setup would be identical), you'd go: --> = cable Variax --> 500X VDI input -> 500X FX Send --> HXS Input -> HXS FX Send --> 500X FX Return -> 500X Output --> HXS FX Return -> HXS Output to PA Where you put the FX Loop blocks in the various devices depends on which device you want to use for amp modeling.
