We'll get the new update when it's ready...

That would be absolutely hilarious if he and the original guy complaining about the Police tone ended up being Andy Summers...

FR: A tiny HELIX pedal like the AmplifireBox for open-mic and small gigs
phil_m replied to d0stenning's topic in Helix
I find the idea of having to physically connect an iPad or computer to a device in order to access all the setting not all that appealing... I'm not a fan of these "black box" sort of devices where you don't have any indicator or what the preset you're using is actually doing. It just seems like it would be so much more useful if there was some sort of screen that could show you and let you manipulate the signal chain. -
No, the Aux In is a mono input. If you want to have stereo pair as an input, you can use a pair of the 1/4" returns.
-
Another way to add an output without the cab model without having to give up a whole path is to simply put a send block right before the cab block and then use that 1/4" send as the output to your amp. The main difference is the Helix's master volume knob won't affect this output, but you can change it's level by adjusting the Send parameter in the send block.

I don't want to go searching for that thread, but I believe he was doing a lot of baiting and berating... I'm pretty sure the same guy was banned from the Fractal forum as well (for the same thing).
-
Are you power cycling your Helix with the pedal attached? The auto-calibration occurs at power-up, so if you're swapping pedals while the Helix is powered up, you may see some discrepancies.
-
The other thing regarding gapless switching and presets is that there are actually two things going on there... Spillover only addresses part of the issue. With spillover, you'll have continuous audio over the change, but there's still the time needed to load the new preset. I've actually seen some comments on the Headrush that say even though there is spillover between presets, the time it takes to load the new preset is relatively long. So in instances where you need the sound from the new preset instantaneously, having spillover won't actually solve that problem. Switching between snapshots gives you spillover and is instantaneous.
-
If this is the case, I suspect that you aren't using both processors to their full capability. The way the Helix is set up is that the blocks on Path 1 (or Path 1A and 2B, to be exact) are using on processor, and the the blocks on Path 2 are using the other. So if you're using multiple amps, the best way to go about it is to put one amp model on Path 1 and the other on Path 2.
-
The GT-Pro uses a semi-fixed signal chain and limits the number of instances of effects you can use.. The Headrush only allows you to use 11 processing blocks total in a preset... So, yes, these devices allow gapless preset switching, but they do it by greatly limiting users' flexibility when it comes to creating complex presets and such.

Control external gear via MIDI in snapshot mode?
phil_m replied to Josh_guitarreiru's topic in Helix
Yep, it can be done... You can send up to six Instant Commands per snapshot and/or preset change. Just go to the Command Center in each snapshot and select one of the lightning bolt icons and set up the PC message you want to be sent there. I control both the Strymon Mobius and BigSky this way. -
2.20 actually isn't the most current editor. There is a 2.21 version of the editor as well... It would be worth installing that and see if it makes a difference.
-
I think sometimes people tend to use overdrive in a non-optimal way... Putting an OD pedal in front of a totally clean amp isn't generally the best way to go about things. Overdrive pedals work best when pushing an amp that is at edge-of-breakup or slightly dirty already. Pete Thorn give examples here:
-
Most likely a coincidence... I think there was a bad batch of mic preamp boards that made it into some of the early Helix runs. There were a few reports of them going poof... I don't think it was related to phantom power.

Is Line 6 Still Making the JTV-69 (HSS)
phil_m replied to Oyster38N's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
The "Knowledge Base" portion of this site is full of useful info: http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/guitars/james-tyler-variax-guitars/james-tyler-variax-variax-standard-variax-shu-r31 -
Yes, if you short the voltage source coming from the H9, which is what the TS plug would be doing, you can then can use the CV from the Helix...
-
The difference is that with CV, the expression pedal or controller is providing the voltage. With a passive expression pedal, the pedal being controlled, the H9 in this instance, is providing voltage to the expression pedal. In the lighting world we use the terms "source" and "sink" when talking about different controllers. CV is like a source-type controller, and a passive expression pedal is like sink-type controller.

People just have to deal with the pops... I've seen posts on the Fractal forums where people have complained about pops when they turn a wah on, for instance, and the input impedance changing abruptly is the culprit.
-
Just bypass all the effects in the preset and save it, and that will in essence be a blank preset.
-
I'm pretty sure there aren't even LEDs under those footswitches in the LT... The LT doesn't have the "10 Stomps" mode like the full Helix does, so there's no mode in which those switches light up.
-
If it's ever actually released... It was announced like a year ago... I'm sure it will be out soon (although they've been saying that since April or something like that). The BigSky does spillover between presets as well. The main thing with the Ventris is that it will allow you to run two reverb engines at the same time, which is cool, I suppose...

TIPS on getting the FX Loop to sound full and robust?
phil_m replied to JeremiahEdward's topic in Helix
First of all, all the reverbs on the Helix are stereo, so there aren't mono versions of them to use. As far the H9, I'm nearly certain the issue is the fact that you're using separate send and receive blocks and not an FX loop block. The parameters on each of those blocks are different. In the FX Loop block, there's a Mix parameter that is set to 100% percent by default, i.e., 100% of the signal that's hitting the block is being sent to the 1/4" send. With the Send block, there's a Dry Thru parameter, and by default that's set to 0.0dB. That means the dry signal is being split between the 1/4" send and going through the internal signal in the Helix. If you were using the 1/4" send as an output, this would be what you want. But since you're creating an FX loop, the dry thru signal is causing you problems through the way of phasing. That why the H9 sounds thin and crappy. To fix it, just set the Dry Thru parameter on the Send block to its minimum level to kill it... You should be good to go then. The other thing you could do, I guess, it turn on the "kill dry" function on the H9 itself. That way it would be like the H9 was in a parallel loop, and you'd be mixing in the wet signal from the H9 to the dry signal running through the Helix. It's kind of two different ways of accomplishing the same thing. -
Is Line 6 going to create new amp and effects model's
phil_m replied to Megadeth1313's topic in POD HD
It's intentional... The dry signal has always been affected with Line 6's Auto Volume delays.
