Just Can't Use The Guitar Modeling... :(
phil_m replied to robbieb61's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Have you tried re-installing the firmware on the guitar? I'm a little puzzled when I read a review saying the guitar sounds completely terrible, as there's tons of happy JTV owners out there, and tons of clips where it sounds awesome. The modeling may not be perfect, but it isn't unusable by any means. As far as the headstock, have you actually seen James Tyler guitars? That's what his logo looks like (the headstocks on the actual Tyler guitars are actually a little bigger than the JTV). -
It has nothing to do with Line 6 wanting to endorse the ME pedal. ME just happens to make a compatible pedal. Line 6 has always used the TS configuration for their expression pedals jacks, ever since they came out with the 4-button stomps like 17 years ago. And, GC should know this...

That'll teach 'em... ;) Seriously, though, it could be any number of things that may or may not be something Line 6 controls. Open up a support ticket, and CS will be able to help troubleshoot the problem.

I use Imgur... It's pretty straightforward.

Looks like you need to try hosting your photos somewhere else... Photobucket decided to clamp down on hotlinking a few months ago.
-
You can already do this. Go to Global Settings>MIDI/Tempo, and on page 2 of that menu, you'll see a setting for MIDI PC Send. Set it to "off", and you'll be good to go.

The Ping Pong delay by design isn't a true stereo effect in the sense that it maintains stereo separation through the block. The signal is summed to mono and then the repeats bounce back and forth across the stereo field. It wouldn't really work as a true stereo effect. If you want a true stereo delay try the stereo version of the Dual Delay.

That would solve the problem of the acoustic being sent to the bass amp, but you would still have the issue of the bass being sent to the acoustic channel on the PA.
-
I don't really have any guitars that have overly hot pickups, so I leave it off. It might be my imagination, but I always feel like I'm missing a bit of bite with it on.

Old thread, I know, but I was just at the U2 Joshua Tree 30th Anniversary show over the weekend, and noticed The Edge is still using his custom Variax Acoustic. He's using it on "Mothers of the Disappeared" for this tour. Not the show I was at, but you can see it here:

Well, yes, technically, you could be wireless with either instruments. It's just that both outputs will be active all the time, so they'll be sending the signal to the PA and the bass amp regardless of whether you're playing bass or acoustic.

I don't believe it's possible to make any sort of sweeping generalizations like that. It all depends in how the units are dialed in. So much depends on the specific IR being used and how the cab models are dialed in on the Helix... Have you seen this? This is the same song recorded once with Helix Native and then with the Axe FX II. They aren't quite identical, and he wasn't trying to make them, but they both sound pretty much equally good, imo. It really just comes down to what the player/engineer wants.
-
I've seen all sorts of comparison videos, and while there will always be some differences in sound between any two devices, I've not heard anything that I'd call night and day, especially if people are using tones with the same IRs. I had the AX8 for a little while, and my general feeling with it is that the defaults seemed more polished than the Helix. What I mean by that is that what you get with the Helix is something more like a photo with no editing or anything applied to it. What Fractal is trying to give you is something more akin to a photo that's been edited, had filters applied to it, etc. To get the same sort of experiences with the Helix, you have to be willing to put the work in to get where you want. I actually think the Helix paradigm is more flexible in the end, because it allows to sculpt things how you want, not the way someone else engineered them to be.

There's no way to lock them out. You're probably best off parking them either the min or max position, so at least there's only one way they can move.
-
You can have up to 8 parameters controlled by a single controller or expression pedal.
-
I wasn't replying to you... I was replying to the poster I quoted, mainly to the "glaring oversight" comment. And because I work in the design field myself, I suppose I do want to give people the benefit of a doubt before calling a design decision something as extreme as a "glaring oversight". The fact is we don't know all the facts that influence every decision. FWIW, I voted your idea up... I'm not against it in any way. Just trying to keep the level of discourse elevated... :)
-
Well the way it's done on the Helix is the same way it's done on the POD HD series... And, actually, Line 6 offered it there before Fractal offered it on the Axe FX (the Axe FX Standard and Ultra didn't have variable input Z, and the Axe FX II was released a year after the HD series). It just comes down to different design decisions from different companies.
-
I actually think it be better to just change it across the board and make work differently. Adding that sort of parameter to every effect block would just confuse too many people, imo. I also think that adding a global setting for every little thing starts to get confusing as well. I'd rather just see the current behavior of the "auto" setting be changed and be done with it.

It's under the Distortion menu...

Wireless transmitter inside instrument, anyone?
phil_m replied to cags12's topic in Relay Digital Wireless
In the case of the G10, it seems like having the transmitter inside the guitar would actually make it less convenient because you'd to worry about charging the battery some way. I suppose it could be modified to be powered from another battery in the guitar itself, but still, dealing only with charging with the transmitter seems more convenient than having to replace batteries in the guitar. -
Just Can't Use The Guitar Modeling... :(
phil_m replied to robbieb61's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I have to say that I don't find the difference between the magnetic pickups on my JTV69US and the modeling of, say, the Spank model to be a huge difference... I use both, but most of the time, I stick with the models. I think, though, that if you play with a lot of gain, that is probably where the difference become most pronounced. -
What Line 6 product are you using?

Just Can't Use The Guitar Modeling... :(

The answer to this is definitely no... -
I'm always surprised how many people are bothered by the blinking LED. I honestly never look at it while playing live, and I've certainly never been able to use it as any sort of visual metronome. I don't possess that skill, I guess. On some pedalboards, I've had up to five different blinking LEDs going at the same, all at different rates... I just never really look at them.

Helix Control could probably be made to be a MIDI over USB controller, as that could be done through drivers. It will never be a standalone MIDI controller though, as it doesn't have the necessary MCU to do so. I don't really think the MIDI controller market is all that big in the first place, so it would probably be a little hard for Line 6 to justify the investment.
