  1. I had a real hard-on to buy one when it was announced. The more posts I see the more I'm glad I didn't. My DT25 is outstanding, and since I got a Bogner Blue pedal I've never been happier. The Helix has amazing potential, if it wasn't rushed out to make Q4 profits for Yamaha.
  2. Looks like the beta testing by customers continues. I'll check back in 6 months or so to see if it's settled down any.
  3. My favorite Beatles tune. Fun to play, catchy, and love the harmonies on vocals too. I'm hard pressed to find two people whose voices mesh better in harmony than McCartney/Lennon.
  4. DT25 doesn't have the transformer issue of the DT50 series. Completely different transformer. If you've verified by replacement that all tubes and fuses are good, then you have a different issue than the transformer replacement bulletin that was posted years ago. (Bulletin 59?) Not saying it is or isn't the transformer, but you can't claim it's the same issue from the DT50's years ago that warranted free repair. Haven't encountered this problem, so I'm sorry I can't help more.
  5. Instantly liked first tone. Second sounded better by the end, but not even close at the beginning. Like my ears started to think it was ok the more time went by between the first sample and the second. But first was the winner for me, hands down.
  6. Sounds like most of you are concerned about how you sound to yourself as opposed to the audience. It is a trade off going direct, but at least with an amp behind you the sound guy can't eff you up too bad. I'm back to using an amp because I personally missed it. Don't like IEMs because it makes me feel separated from the crowd. Like I'm wearing earplugs and pretending to play guitar. Volume with monitors generally isn't an issue, except by the end of the night when the drummer is drunk and playing louder. Crash cymbals hurt my ears the worst. But that's assaulting me from behind. We don't play short sets with multiple acts though. We play Friday and Saturday 4 hour gigs, and run our own sound. If we buy the drummer a drum shield my ears would be fine after the weekend.
  7. Sounds to me like the dirt comes from the power amp then. You will notice the same thing to a similar extent with the Plexi. It doesn't get nearly as dirty into the DT with the preamp version as it does using the full model.
  8. Good idea. If it's already broken, you can't break the usb part "more". Let us know how it works for you. Pictures can help others in the future if you feel like adding them. It should be a simple procedure. No need to fork over way too much money to an "authorized repair center" that just pays a fee for a title and some manuals. Good luck!
  9. Got the case today. A day after my gig :( It fits great, and looks very well made. I can fit my amp and my power cord as well as my instrument cables for the effects loop etc inside the case and still have room in the front pouch for spare tubes, picks, patch cables etc. looks to be built sturdy, and I would trust it as an amp stand too now that I've seen it firsthand and fiddled with it. I'd post pics, but I still don't know how. Got some on my phone just waiting to be posted lol
  10. I've been using and HD500 and an X for going on 4 years now, and one used it about every possible way live, and after years of tweaking and comparing and trying different output modes/power amps/tube amps, I've come to realize I'm not happy with it. As soon as I got it off my pedalboard and went back to just using an amp and pedals, my tone was there. It is an incredibly versatile piece of gear, but it is a giant tone "black hole". Too many hours wasted tweaking instead of playing. My DT25 with DT edit gives me everything I need, and nothing I don't. I'm back to square one, and wiser for the trip around. HD500 is great. DT25 is better. For me. In response to what I actually quoted, to use it properly as just a pedalboard, you still have to use the lackluster FX loop on the Pod, which gets you right back into that vicious circle of tweaking levels. I just want my gear to work these days.
  11. Really? I get great responsiveness with the guitar volume knob into the amp. I guess it depends a lot of pickups, gain levels etc..
  12. To this day, nothing beats tubes cranking out the goodness. I just put my HD running direct to PA aside and went back to using a DT25 and pedals because of it. There's some good patches out there, but they still don't breathe like an amp. Glad you found your nirvana!
  13. Connect from Send of DT25 to guitar input of Pod, not Pod effects loop return. Then use send from Pod to return on amp. Make sure you have the FX Loop block in the Pod signal path, and make sure it's on.
  14. Just took my HD out of my rig and went back to pedals through my DT25. depending on how I feel after our string of 9 gigs over the next couple months the HD may be retired completely. It is an extremely flexible tool, but I felt I was tweaking too much and never really satisfied with the tone. I've come full circle lol. I can't wait to post some vids with the amp to compare live tones with my HD going direct from a few months ago. Should be eye-opening one way or the other. You guys got some crazy rigs!
  15. I ordered the 112A from Gator. I'll give a review after it arrives and I've used it a few times. Got like 10 gigs in the next couple months, so I'll put it through its paces and report back. I may not use it as a stand though, but we will see. That seems sketchy to me too.
  16. I was looking at that 112A, and it looks to be just about what I need. Doesn't have to be bulletproof, but sturdy enough to prevent knobs busting off when my amp is going to gigs.
  17. Did you ever end up finding a satisfactory case? I'm going back to using my DT live after never being satisfied with the FRFR route. Putting the HD500x away and just using pedals with the DT25 combo, so looking for a decent hard case for it now. I know it's a zombie thread, but thought I'd ask. Thanks!
  18. My tone when I'm not using my JTV comes from Gibson 57 Classics and Classic+. They are exactly what I hear in my head for MY style. I've tried a lot myself, and I was a fan of Burstbuckers too, but really don't like SD or EMG. Never used Dimarzio though.

    Variax HX

I always hit the volume knob while picking and turn myself down on accident.
  20. +1 on the food posts... both sound really good!
  21. Holy crap RealZap I think you nailed it.. All the sounds are out there already.. Mix and Match!
  22. Wow. I come back from camping and check this thread.. It's all blown up! Don't even recognize it. I have nothing against players that play "fast" per se. But there is definitely a line you cross where you are no longer playing a melody and just throwing notes in the same key/scale together. That's where it ceases to sound musical (to me). I can appreciate all sorts of players and music, but I admit as I age I don't like some of the stuff I liked as a youth. I'm sure everyone can agree tastes change as you age. For me, I like more Beatles and less Testament. 20 years ago that was the opposite. Sorry to blow up the thread with one small post a few days ago.
