  1. Check your setting for Playback Volume in the looper display.
  2. Unless you are using stereo FX in the preset each 1/4" output is already carrying a mono signal. Just route them to whatever device you want. If you are using stereo FX, use the HD500 mixer to pan both paths fully L/R respectively.
  3. You can have that now. Pick up a used POD 2.0 or Pocket Pod at a bargain price and stick in the Helix FX Loop.
  4. To get a stereo guitar track as well as a dry signal for recording you will need to upgrade your audio interface. The best route I think would be to get one with a s/pdif input as well as at least two audio inputs (a stereo pair) either XLR or 1/4". You can use the HD500X s/pdif output to feed the interface input to record the dry track and use the standard HD500X audio outputs to the interface inputs for the wet stereo track. If you can settle for a mono guitar track and a dry signal you can use the HD500X as your audio interface for recording. All you need is a usb cable and you won't need to upgrade your Scarlett. For recording a mono guitar track and a dry track simultaneously use this patch (with appropriate edits). Just edit Path A (the guitar signal path) by adding/replacing amp/FX. Don't change the preset structure. Read the description for usage details. http://line6.com/customtone/tone/217206/
  5. ... or get a Variax. It's simple to do with Alternate Tuning and you can save a different alternate tuning with every preset.
  6. You don't need an HD500X device in order to run the HD500X Edit program. Download and install it and run it offline. Load up the patches you want to see the detailed EQ settings he uses. If you don't have his patches and are looking for someone who has them to help you out, that's a different story. I believe he sells his patches (could be wrong about this) though some are available for free. EDIT: I see he offers a couple of free downloadable zip files presumably containing multiple HD500-compatible files. Don't know if others are for sale or not. http://lincolnbrewster.com/pages/pod-patches
  7. 1) Helix has a pitch shifter FX that you can use to achieve the drop tuning. I don't know how it compares to the Digitech in terms of polyphonic note tracking. 2) You can create custom settings for any amp/FX and save them in what you could consider a default or template preset. Helix allows you to copy any amp/FX block between presets. So having created your custom default settings you can copy that amp/FX block to any preset you are creating. It achieves what you want but you can't actually overwrite the factory default settings. The mechanism for selecting your custom default settings is different, namely copying and pasting from another preset rather than factory FX block selection using the menus and joystick.
  8. You'd have to ask Line 6 that (I don't work for Line 6). They would need to assign someone (or two, or three) to this task. This would mean either hiring new people (the extra cost being recovered in increased revenues somehow, like charging for Customtone downloads) or taking people off their current assignments like developing the Helix editor. If they haven't done it by now they're not likely to.
  9. Seems you weren't paying attention in 'school'........ The whole point of this week's lesson is that this question won't be answered, other than 'soon'.
  10. I don't think you'll get any flack, but I also doubt that you'll get much cooperation. Recognize that Customtone is an unmoderated database of tones. There is no quality control. Regular users (not designated or somehow qualified 'tone creators') post whatever tones they want with whatever descriptions and keywords they want. It's nobody's job to ensure any sort of accuracy or consistency in the submissions. Most tones are already missing important information such as the guitar being used, whether it's designed for output to a particular amp or FRFR, etc. What you're asking, which I think would be great, is just another important step that most posters will probably not bother to take. It hasn't happened yet and it's not the first time this sort of thing has been suggested.
  11. It's recommended to disconnect or power off the controller when updating. When you connect and power on the controller after updating you will be prompted to update the controller if necessary.
  12. .... and whatever benefits or privileges you were receiving that required you to sign an NDA in the first place would be quickly withdrawn....
  13. Depends entirely on the headphones. Helix itself produces excellent tones, as does the POD HD series although personally I think Helix is better. But both will sound bad through earbuds and low quality headphones, and both will sound excellent through good quality headphones. Edit: You may also need to tweak your presets in order to have them sound good using headphones. Most headphones emphasize the low end so you may need to dial that back in your preset. Also, for best results with headphones set the output mode to Studio/Direct and use mic/cab simulations in the preset. For instance, I would not expect your HD500 to sound good using headphones if your presets are designed to be used with a real guitar amp and you are using Live output mode. In that situation your headphones are not delivering a similar signal to your ears that your amp is with the same preset.
  14. Can't do that specifically with a footswitch. Best you can do is use different presets to store and recall Variax models.
  15. Good point. They both carry power too, and I don't know how the power delivered to Variax vs. Helix Control compare.
  16. Thanks for the clarification. Maybe you're the lawyer? ;)
  17. Just to be clear.... Your volume level resets when you switch presets, or when you switch Setups? If the latter, that won't be 'fixed' because it's desired behaviour. Different Setups (venues) require different master volume levels. Volume is reset to zero when changing Setups to avoid any sudden volume increases that could damage ears or equipment. Within a Setup you may be able to use Scenes to meet your requirements and retain the overall volume level.
  18. I agree that Line 6 should fix customer problems. And, for the most part, they do. The support ticket method is the official problem reporting and fixing mechanism. The reason you see mostly problems discussed here is that this is a user support forum. People come here seeking help with specific problems. Happy users with no problems (the vast majority of Line 6 customers*) don't typically come here. It's human nature and evident in all walks of life. People take the time to try to get things fixed when they need things fixed. They don't typically take time to report that they have no problems. Feel free to make a happy post about Line 6 product you own that has no problem. You're here, so presumably you own a product. But you haven't talked about a problem. So.....? * As of this moment in the full Members list here, with my display settings, there are 14,668 pages of 20 members/page of registered community members. So less than 300,000 members, the vast majority of whom are no longer active. They made a few posts, got some help, and never came back. This list goes back many years. If that number represented the total number of Line 6 customers over those years they would no longer be in business. So it's important to keep that perspective when judging the level of Line 6 concern about customer satisfaction and problem resolution.
  19. Line 6 doesn't talk about ..........😎😜 Seriously, it's part way there in the current Helix firmware. I remember testing this with my Variax 300 and was pleasantly surprised to find that Helix was able to store Variax model settings in the same way as if a JTV were connected, recall that setting with the preset, and properly reset the 300 model to the stored value. So communication from Helix to the 300 seemed to work, at least on my equipment. You just have to make the setting manually in the preset because...... Communication from the 300 to Helix does not work. Manually changing models on the 300 is not properly reflected in the Helix preset. It made the Variax settings display page on Helix go crazy with gibberish. So give it a try. You may find it has the same limited 1-way capabilities already on your equipment. I suggested to Line 6 that they complete this implementation to enhance product value and appeal. But, Line 6 doesn't talk about ..........😎😜
  20. Yes, it's coming. The existing Helix librarian will be updated to include an editor. Line 6 has said that it will be ready for release soon.
  21. No. In Firehawk you cannot reassign the A-D preset switches to operate as FX on/off controllers. This ability in the HD500 is known as FS Mode, not Live Mode.
  22. As mentioned above you should just be able to use Line 6 Monkey with your JTV connected to your computer via the hardware interface that came with your JTV, or with a supporting POD device, to install the firmware. If that doesn't work, go here http://line6.com/software/ Choose James Tyler Variax on the Products field. Choose Flash Memory in the Software field (that's the firmware). You should be presented with a list of all JTV firmware releases. Pick the one you want and download it. Then use Line 6 Monkey to install 'From File'.
  23. Are you saving your preset before you switch to another one? All changes you make to any preset are only temporary and are lost if you don't save the preset using the SAVE button. The little asterisk * beside the preset name means that you have made changes. It's a warning to you that if you switch to another preset while the asterisk is visible any changes since you last saved it will be lost.
  24. I can see/get JTV firmware v1.71 in the Downloads section. Can you not?
