JTV 59 Questions
psarkissian replied to specracer986's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
NIce. "... knocked the thick gloss finish off with some Scotch Pad abrasive"--- let me guess, it's black, and you wanted it to be more like a 59 vintage Les Paul. Used to crew for the band Iron Butterfly, and their guitarist had a black '57 Les Paul like that. Nice! Just be careful not to nick or scratch a piezo in the the process (for anyone else who does that). Had a couple come across my repair bench because of that. So be careful. -
Malfunction in a LINE 6 Spider Valve 112 - reset continous
psarkissian replied to BluesBoyBcn's topic in Spider Valve
MkII or earlier? -
Cool. Forgot that was there, I've never had to use it myself.
-
There is no factory reset on that amp. It can be re-Flashed thru Line 6 monkey. However, here, this is a hardware issue that won't be solved with software and programming.
-
Check with the service center for an estimate on that. Hard to tell with a second or third hand product, and I don't have the entire service history available to me, so I can't look that up. I have access to service histories local to me. A & B should sound close to being alike, so you can set each one for different tones and go back and forth between them. All that would be in the manual. http://line6.com/support/manuals/

Take it to an authorized service center in your area, they can take of all of that. http://line6.com/find/service_center/

Get those JJ's out, it may be part of the reason for the transformer failure in the first place. Use the specified Electro-Harmonix. Take it to a Line 6 authorized service center to have the valves change and biased, and the fuses checked for the correct values. These amps are not forgiving of alterations or modifications,... that includes valves. These are not the all analog valve amps of the 1960's and 70's. Amps that come back to me for repair with other than specified valves, failed because they had something other than specified valves in them,... and incorrectly biased. Take it to a Line 6 authorized service center.
-
When was the last time the valves were changed out? Can you see the markings on the valves and tell me what brand they are? Valves need to be changed out and biased once every 18 to 24 months, depending on how much use it gets. And should be done by an authorized service center who knows the product.

Variax Cable not connecting
psarkissian replied to Mnztrl's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Exchange replace the cable from where you got it from. -
1) No. 2) -- 3) Bending the stem can create contact problems further down the stem. 4) Knob. You can try to fit a different one on there.

There is an input impedance selection in the edit page of your multi effects unit. Also go thru the effects signal path, adjust gains to any effects that need it.

Guitar in pad/normal-switch on POD HD
psarkissian replied to Smashcraaft's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
It's helpful. Pad or Attenuation is generally useful for attenuation signals that are "too hot" and need to be attenuated or trimmed before continuing on down the signal path. Active pick-ups is only one circumstance where a "pad" comes in handy. -
Line 6 DT50 Head, Blowing main fuse when powering on
psarkissian replied to hetrickaj's topic in DT50 / DT25
No. They are made specifically for Line 6 for this product and its specs. Too many things to check, too many variables and safety hazards for a user to be doing this themselves. This needs to be done by a Line 6 authorized tech who knows the insides of this product. Like the saying goes, "don't try this at home". -

Yeah, it's the transformer. Needs to be serviced, and needs a thorough going over. -

Chassis fuse, or AC receptacle fuse? -
Log a support ticket in your account. Sounds like it needs a look thru by a service tech.

Line 6 DT50 Head, Blowing main fuse when powering on
psarkissian replied to hetrickaj's topic in DT50 / DT25
Yes. That shouldn't make it blow, it might attenuate. 16-Ohm out into an 8-Ohm load would blow it. You went the other way, so that shouldn't be a problem. Something else is going on then. When was the last time the tubes were changed? Are you using the specified stock tubes? -
Line 6 DT50 Head, Blowing main fuse when powering on
psarkissian replied to hetrickaj's topic in DT50 / DT25
Log a ticket with custom support, it will have to go in for servicing. How were the speakers connected, which amp output to which speaker input? -
Once it's bent, it's hard to get it back again. It may or may not need a new grille, those don't bend back well. It's less about looks and more about how it will perform. You don't just open these up and do stuff to it. Need the right tools and torques for this one. There are gaskets and grommets that have to be correctly placed when you close it up, or the seal won't work. And that leads to acoustic distortions from air leaks (air distortions) rattling or other related vibrations. Needs to go to an authorized service center that knows the product. Someone will respond to your ticket. File a claim with them for the cost of repair.

LINE 6 VARIAX Processor in MY CUSTOM BUILT GUITAR?
psarkissian replied to Wackjobs's topic in Variax Standard
To be more accurate, when I mention that,... it's that there are 4 or 5, that I know. And as I've said before on other posts,.... I'm sure there are more out there, it's just that I don't know who or where they are. As I've said before,... as I come across them, I'll add them to the numbers.- 5 replies

LINE 6 VARIAX Processor in MY CUSTOM BUILT GUITAR?
psarkissian replied to Wackjobs's topic in Variax Standard
"Personally, I think that's nonsense, provided that the one doing the building really knows their craft"--- Being that I've done a few of these, I can say it's not nonsense. You have to know the product and know what you're doing. Seen a number of them attempted by others who didn't listen to my advice, that went horribly wrong. "... are only 4 human beings in the known universe who are capable of accomplishing such an engineering marvel"--- Well, not the universe, but at least here in the US. "Engineering marvel",... well more like a lot of tech experience. "You're only option is to buy one and cannibalize it"--- Yes. And since we don't support mods, that would be the case, it would be at your own risk. I've done my share of custom work over the last 40+ years, this is not to be taken lightly. This isn't a guitar with passive electronics in it. And should there be a program problem or electronics glitch, you would be on your own. Having done a few and compared notes with others, the guts will sound different when transplanted to a different body. The modeling is matched to the body and electronics configuration that they are programmed for (JTV, Standard and Shuriken). Transplanting into another body will sound different (tone color, overall EQ). I just wanted you to know what you're in for should you go down this road. Being a custom tweak-er myself,... Luck, happy hunting and Rock On.- 5 replies
