Your G10 didn't come with a 1/4" adapter? -

What firmware revision is your G10 receiver running? -
Whenever I experienced any hangs I would unplug the USB cable and it was back to normal instantly. Haven't had it happen with 2.12
-
You plugged into USB when it hangs and catches up? I seem to remember this happening to me once or twice on 2.11 when plugged into USB. Haven't seen it on 2.12 though

In global settings you can choose 10 switches for stomp mode. It will take away the bank up/down on the left, but you will have 10 switches in stomp mode

It shouldn't be a big deal if just transporting it in the foam. Even if static builds up on the foam, the static discharge should not make it to the internals of the Helix. Now if you take your Helix apart, definitely don't touch the internals without being grounded. Static builds up on the exterior of objects and seeks to discharge to "ground"When you touch something that has a static buildup and you feel the little spark, the static is discharging to your body. Your body is acting as the ground. I think using the factory packaging foam is a great idea if it fits in your case.

What expression pedals do you guys use with the Helix?

You may have to adjust the mechanical linkage to get the full sweep you are looking for. The mechanical adjustment varies from pedal to pedal, and I am not familiar with the Boss. -
What version of Helix Edit are you running on your Mac? If it is not also v2.11, that could be your issue. Also, firmware 2.12 is out, but the latest editor is 2.11

Check out Scott in THEHELIXCHANNEL.com. He does some Satch presets that feed back really well. He has a JBL Eon wedge directly in front of him to achieve the sound waves hitting the strings.

I balance volume between all snaps and all presets. It's making me think of going to just 1-2 big utility presets instead of a preset per song.

If you want it to perform well in battle, then you have to set it up as if you were in battle. Don't set up your presets using headphones, then plug into your amp/FRFR/PA and expect it to sound the same. Set up your presets using the very same equipment you will be using in battle, even close to the volume levels. Even then, you may have to adjust global eq a bit depending on the battle space.

I just got a great deal on some PM12 units (free) and will be giving them a go with the Helix. I looked up the frequency response on them and they are about as "flat response" as any other 12" two way speaker, with a little dip in the mids which is to be expected.

I've never tried to manipulate a block with both a snapshot and stomp in the same preset, just as a safety measure for my dumb self. I would easily become confused if a snap was supposed to turn something on that I already turned on with a stomp. I'll have to see if I can replicate it.

Yes, just basic tube amp tone and feel is as simple as dropping an amp and cabinet model into a preset, and letting 'er rip. If you want "amp in a room" sound, connect Helix to a powered PA speaker (or two) and let 'er rip.

Great point, thanks. I think the new Yogas have the 4k display. I am looking at the standard display resolution 15.6" Flex 4, i7 2.7GHz, 16GB RAM, 512 GB SSD. Probably pick one up in a week or two.

Don't you hate that when you are troubleshooting what seems to be electrical/electronic, and it lands up being a mechanical issue... I can't count how many times I have been down that similar road. -

Did your unit come with a 1/4" adapter? I believe units are now shipping with one that takes care of the high pitch noise from some piezo systems.

That is how it works. If you are switching something from A to B in stomp mode it is a toggle type function. In snapshots, you are sending a value. If the split was manually toggled with a stomp and then a snap sends the value to twitch to a position that it's already at, nothing happens. Snapshots won't toggle, it just adjusts a parameter to on or off or to a particular value. That's why you have to use caution switching between stomp and snaps.

I do live, not very often at home/studio.
-
Create a template preset with snapshots built in, then change out amps effects to taste. You may have to "reteach" some of the snapshots though because of changing amps/effects.

You obviously are not EQing properly. Mine sound fantastic.

So recently I started a thread with Helix case/bag ideas and people posted what they are using. I decided to do the same with stands. A lot of us bring the floor unit up off of the floor when using it for an audio interface, or just creating patches. My wife found a keyboard stand at a second hand store and it works very well. I have seen other using music stands and various other ideas. Post them here to give others some good ideas.

Chasing an "exact" sound of a recording is a road that can take you to nowhere. When I attempt replicating an approximate sound, I just listen to determine what amp they may be using and what guitar and that is it. There may be some obvious effects that can be picked out like modulation types and delay, but those are just the sprinkles on the donut. I can get about 80-90% close to nailing a tone on a particular recording. However when I play that song for someone, they immediately recognize the song. They can't tell that the tone is not "exactly" like what was originally recorded. Too may people get hung up trying to "nail" so-and-so's sound. It's not going to happen.

Try booting up Helix without the USB connect to see if it still hangs. Try a different USB port on your PC. Some people have experienced strange issues then it went away when using a different port.
