  1. Press in and hold the knob you use to scroll through presets with, it will open a menu where you can rename your preset and reassign it to a different bank, though this will overwrite any existing preset. Press and hold again to save.
  2. Helix is a definite step up from the HD500x. Helix was built completely from the ground up so they don't really share any "DNA". You'll find a lot of the same classic gear modeled in both, but the Helix models aren't related to previous models beyond that.
  3. You do not need to update in order, you can update right to the latest firmware.
  4. Yes this is possible with LT; plug your magnetic pickups into the guitar input and plug the piezo signal into one of the effect returns. You can set your input and outputs as you like; ex: Magnetic pickups are only sent out through 1/4" to your amp and the piezo is sent out through the XLR to the PA. You can also plug both into LT with LT going straight to the PA and assign a footswitch to switch between the two, or you can even blend them with LT.
  5. Well assembling the original "dream rig" (PODHD500+Variax+DT amp) will cost some bit of money as you have to invest in 3 pieces of gear! Since a lot of this gear has been around for a little bit is does come up on sale every once in awhile. I do occasionally see a stray Variax or DT on clearance at guitar center, could be a good place to start. Since the release of other modelers, I think the idea of the dream rig may be a bit looser (L6 Multi-EFX + Variax + L6 Amp/Speaker), I think today's most common form is a Variax+Helix+FRFR Speaker.
  6. As mentioned above, placement of any effect will affect it's sound, some more drastically than others. I'll try and call out a few things I hadn't seen mentioned. Experiment with your wah pedal before and after an overdrive/fuzz/distortion, definite difference in sound. I usually go drive>modulation, I find this gives a more dramatic modulation effect ex: it can really bring out the 'jet engine' effect in a flanger. Experimenting with the delay before and after the amp; the delay hitting the front of the amp can sometimes nicely color your tone. I typically put pitch based effects near the front of the chain so they are tracking the cleanest possible signal. Sometimes I run my drives into a compressor a la Trey Anastasio. Just a few ideas.
  7. Not sure if the design is copyrighted, but figured I'd share the link of where these shirts can be purchased. http://store.line6.com/apparel.html

  9. I hear you, it sucks when gear goes down, especially leading up to a gig! Thankfully Frank goes absolutely above and beyond to make sure everyone is happy. It sounds like you honestly may have had a bad/faulty zipper. I've been using my bad for quite awhile on the road/gigging and it has been holding up very well. I'm sure it will be taken care of good as new.
  10. Hi scthom, which GC location were you at?
  12. I don't see the Mikue stomp posted on ideascale. Ideascale is a great place to post and vote on ideas end users would like to see implemented in products. Just don't expect me to vote for the Miku ;) https://line6.ideascale.com/
  13. There is no Mid pot on a Deluxe but the resistor/cap for mids is still part of the circuit. Having access to that is for me personally a plus, the no mid control on the Deluxe was always a pet peeve for me. I think channel/master/drive is necessary for modeling so you can balance your presets. With the deluxe I can have my my big clean tone, slight amp break up, and tube screamer combo all level out or have the appropriate volumes.
  14. I find the Soldano to be spot on. I got to hear Helix A/B'd with the actual amp and it blew my mind. I definitely agree on the Hiwatt, JC-120, and Bassman too. I've never played the equivalent of the "mail-order twin" model but that model can sound really great. I also love the Double Vib and think that is pretty spot on too. Archon models also sound great but I haven't spend much time with the physical unit to compare.
  15. One option is to use a gain block in place of a boost. Are using global EQ or making any cuts? This can tighten things up and help with bad fuzz tones. I'd like to see something like the EP preamp/ Xotic Ep in Helix too. https://line6.ideascale.com/ is a good place to post product suggestions and vote on them.
  16. Are you sure he used Variax? I believe he was/is using Helix, but I've never seen him with a Variax. Same with Jared Scharff, lots of Fenders, offsets, and more recently Supro's.
  17. To start, does your FBV 3 have the latest firmware? I'm up to date and find I can cycle back from 32 to preset 1. As for FBV control; I don't believe you can edit how FBV 3 behaves with Spider V using FBV control. FBV control is designed to setup commands if you are using FBV 3 with a with a piece of hardware or software that isn't Line 6. As far as I know, the only changes on the FBV 3 you can make when paired with Spider V would be the effect assignment (excluding locked in comp and reverb.)
  18. I would recommend the JC-120 or the Double Vib for clean jazz tones. I'm less familiar with Bill Nelson, but I checked out a few youtube videos; I think the aforementioned amps are probably your best bet. Some light gain from the Scream 808 or Minotaur, as well as delay and reverb and possibly some chorus. I think a big part of this equation will be a semi hollow guitar to get that thicker, woodier sound.
  19. Yes, Helix is very capable of letting you easily switch between guitars. As other users mentioned you can have your presets tailored to each guitar with Helix. There's also a multitude of ways to switch between guitars in a single preset.
  20. Perhaps you meant to post this elsewhere?
  21. It is very easy to store/program on the Spider V, both on the front of the amp or using the dedicated Spider Remote app. FBV functionality will be the same as well.
  22. Use the Amplifi app (IOS or Android) to save and manage tones. Using the app you have the option to: save to my tones (will be stored in the app), Publish on Line 6 cloud, store on Amplifi, or publish to twitter/facebook. Saving your tones on the app or the cloud with one Amplifi and then using the app to download the tones to the other unit seems like the best route.
  23. Are you currently using a Line 6 modeling product? The Helix gets pretty dirty as do some previous products, remember the "insane" amp/setting?! Have you tried running 4 cable method or perhaps a tube power amp or preamp after the modeling? These could also be solutions.
  24. Sorry to hear you are having trouble registering your Spider V 60. You can open a ticket without the product, there should be an option to choose "no product applies" since you don't have a registered product. Alternatively, you will have to call into customer support. http://line6.com/support/tickets/
  25. Reminds me of stretched tuning on a piano or keyboard
