Are you putting the amp models on the same path? If you spread things out over both processors, you should have more power available. Or perhaps try putting both amp models on Path 1 and the IR and reverb on Path 2.
-
You can’t switch the model in a given amp block, but you can accomplish what you’re taking about a bunch of different ways with the Helix. You can simply have two amp models in series and turn one off when you turn the other on. You can use dual paths and switch back and forth between them. The reason the AX8 uses the X/Y switching in the amp block is that one of the processors in AX8 is dedicated to amp modeling and IR loading. On the Helix, both processors are available for anything. Really, from a signal chain perspective, the Helix offers a lot more flexibility.

Line 6 has gone out its way to make things right for people who’ve had problems with things. There’s literally nothing to worry about in that regard.

The LT supports all signal chains that the Helix and Helix Rack do with the only caveat being it has less physical ins and outs. There’s only one stereo FX Loop (two mono) on the LT compared to the two stereo (four mono) on the Helix and Rack. There’s also no Aux In jack or Mic input on the LT. It has the same processing power, though.

It's possible, and it's very easy to set up. You could do it by hard panning the outputs for every preset, but I think you'd be much better off using one of the FX Sends as an output for your acoustic preset(s). I would just insert whatever Send block you want to use at the end of the signal path, and turn the Dry Thru parameter all the way down. That way you won't have any signal going to the 1/4" outs in the acoustic patches, but it will be coming out of the Send.
-
There's no way to do it in a global manner. Doing it on a patch per patch basis as you're doing it is the only way.

Well, it was an attempt...

Changing the sample rate setting in the Helix doesn't affect the USB audio. It only affects the S/PDIF and AES/EBU outs. But what you're describing isn't something that would be because of the sample rate, anyway. Are you recording your track in stereo? One thing that can make a difference is the Global EQ. It will affect the 1/4" and XLR outs (depending on the settings you have in it) and the headphone outs, but it won't affect the signal being sent to Logic over USB.

Just navigate over to the blocks and hit the Bypass button (not the footswitch) to get the bypass states lined up how you want them.

You can do that, but from the sounds of it, I think what you're talking about would be better accomplished by using snapshots. Peter has good tutorial on them here:

Put it up on Ideascale: https://line6.ideascale.com/ I think the challenge is trying to implement things that have the most bang for the buck. On one hand, it's great if you can include some features that appeal to a certain niche of people, but on the other hand, there's only so many hours in a day...

On some amps, the FX return is disabled unless something is plugged into the FX send. The first thing I would try is putting a dummy plug in the JCM900's send. Other than that, is there a switch for the JCM900's effects loop?

It's really pretty common nowadays for devices that have editors for the editors to be released sometime after the product is first released. For example, the Axe FX III that was just released towards the beginning of the year didn't have an editor for a long time, and the editor that is available now is a public beta. I think it's pretty obvious why companies do it this way. Rather than have two parallel development tracks - one for the device and one for the editor - they can focus on killing bugs in the firmware without constantly playing catch-up with the editor.

Perhaps the Playback level parameter got turned down in the Looper block?

1. It sounds like you most likely have some of the cable connections incorrect. For the 4CM to work you do need an FX Loop block in the signal chain, and anything before the FX Loop will be before your amp's preamp, and anything after it will be in your amp's loop. As far as the cable connections, it would be (assuming you're using FX Loop 1 on the HXFX): Guitar --> HXFX in --> HXFX FX Send 1--> Amp Input --> Amp FX Send --> HXFX FX Return 1 --> HXFX Output --> Amp FX Return You just have to make sure you have the FX Loop block on at all time, otherwise, as you mention, you'll bypass your amp's preamp and the signal would be going through the HXFX straight to the amp's FX return. 2. You can have multiple effects assigned to one footswitch. If you want to have even more flexibility, you would probably want to use snapshots. That would allow to recall the bypass states of every block in your preset along with the values of 64 parameter. It's an insanely powerful feature. 3. It's very possible that you run into a ground loop when making multiple connections between the same two pieces of equipment. A hum destroyer, similar to this, can be very helpful in getting rid of those sorts of problems.

It will work fine. You just lose the variable impedance circuitry with the Return, which doesn't really make a difference if you have anything else between your guitar and the input.

New Preset created in Helix Editor did not save correctly in Helix unit
phil_m replied to silvertonguitar's topic in Helix
You have to assign effects/blocks to footswitches in Stomp Mode. It doesn't happen automatically. You can do it in HX Edit if you go to the Bypass/Controller Assign tab and set the footswitch using the pulldown menus. It much faster to make those assignments on the Helix itself, though, because of the capacitive touch footswitches. Navigate to the block you want to assign to a footswitch on the screen, and then simply touch the footswitch you want to assign it to for two seconds. You'll then see a message pop up on the screen asking if you want to assign the blocks to the footswitch. Hit OK, and that's it... Repeat that for all the blocks you want to assign to footswitches. -
Ok, I dont know what to think (block bypass issues)
phil_m replied to themetallikid's topic in Helix
This sounds to me like you might be having some conflicts with the pedal position and the saved bypass states of blocks within snapshots. If you don't have the EXP Position parameter set to "per snapshot", it's very easy to run into these sorts of issues. That's especially true if you happen to have the Snapshots Edit parameter set to "Recall". -
If it looks like a bug and acts like a bug, it's probably a bug...

That sort of footswitch jack won't work with CV. It's just looking for a simple normally open or normally closed switch (not sure which one - MOTU should specify in the manual). You might be able to use the Helix's EXT AMP jack to connect to it, though. What is it you're wanting to trigger?

Lol... "That guy" is Cliff Chase. The founder and brains behind Fractal and the Axe-FX. I'm willing to believe he knows a thing or two about what he's talking about...

Did you try a different USB cable? Restart the computer?

To add on a little to what codamedia said here, you just want to make sure that all of you blocks are after the Split and before the Merge. If you put them on Path A, they'll be before your amp. If you put them in Path B, they'll be in your amp's loop. You can use stereo blocks if you want, but you'll only be getting one side of the stereo image.

IRs used for convolution reverbs are much longer than 2048 samples. They're more in the 60,000 or even as high 200,000 sample range.

Helix sounds dull through my studio monitors but great on headphones
phil_m replied to davidderekmoss's topic in Helix
What headphones? Many headphones have really hyped bass and treble response (the classic smiley-face EQ), so that prerecorded music sounds good, but they are misleading when used for monitoring. Basically, you need to use your monitors when setting up your tones. Whether or not the tones translate to the headphones is somewhat irrelevant. They might sound OK or they might not.- 9 replies
