I do the number thing, too. The weird thing I've found with Windows 10 and the Helix app is that the order the IRs are loaded back onto the Helix depends on where my cursor is when I grab the file to drag them over. As long as I have the cursor on the first file, it will load them back in the proper order. Otherwise, it will make the file I have my cursor on the first one, go through the rest in order and loop around. Very odd.

The only software package you need to download is the latest version of "Helix". If you run and install that, the newest drivers and the newest version of Line 6 Updater and the Helix Editor app will be installed. After that, connect the Helix and run Line 6 Updater and follow the instructions.

The issue of tone quality is purely subjective... I too have tried Fractal products, and they're fine. I didn't feel like there's anything necessarily magical about them though. The fact is that not one company can please everyone. Trying to do so will probably mean you end up pleasing fewer people. Might as well focus on your vision for your product and not worry too much about what other companies are doing.

Lol... That is a conundrum! :D

Because of this? This is like one of the most minor bugs I could think of...

Despite being out of warranty, you should open up a support ticket, imo. I've never heard of anything like this happening, fwiw.

You have to set the attack time pretty high to get the sort of pronounced effect I think your wanting. Between that and the threshold, you should get more in that territory. It takes some tweaking. I worked with them a little during testing to help tweak this. I was able to get it pretty close to the Autoswell setting on my Möbius eventually.

No.

2.13 is the latest version of Workbench HD. And, yes, you should be able to connect to Workbench HD through the Helix now. Did you open Workbench after you had everything all hooked up?

Like from the amp's effects send or a line out to an input on the Helix? Yes, you could do that, although you may need to be careful about the level you're sending it. The G10 will work with a broad range of signals, but a true line level signal might cause clipping - I'm not sure. If you're talking about using more than one G10's at the same time, you just need to start with them both docked, and then un-dock the first one, let it select a channel, and then un-dock the second one.

It has since been moved to the "Preferences" screen in the Global Settings menu.

Really depends on the quality you want. I like the Transistor Tape model for a warmer slap. The Simple Delay is fine for cleaner sounding repeats. I used the Transistor Tape for the intro on this clip: https://soundcloud.com/phil-miller-20/catgrass

No, there isn't it... I think this sort of global setting would be difficult to implement, as the preset architecture of the Helix doesn't really lend itself to it very well. There isn't a dedicated slot for and amp/cab model, plus you can use separate amp and cab models... Or you could be using an amp block with an IR. You can use multiple cabs or IRs with one amp block, etc., etc... It just seems like it would be way more trouble than it's worth. Really, the best thing to do is create separate presets for the various use scenarios.

Makes sense to me... You could combine a path and split before you go to the different amps if you want to, but the way you're doing it gives you two independent paths. If your sounds are drastically different, and it sounds like the are, your method is probably the way to go. Are you running into DSP issues?

And just like dating in LA, a good number of the IRs you find are infected with a nasty virus... I kid... I kid...
-
Well there's an easy way to test it. Turn the input block noise gate off, and insert a noise gate block with the same settings in the path before the volume pedal and see how it reacts.

I've not used the Mac editor, but on the Windows editor, when you right click on the camera icon near the snapshot pulldown menu, a menu comes up where you can choose the various functions. After you copy and go to another snapshot and right click on the camera icon, paste is one of the options.

I guess I don't find anything unexpected about the behavior you're describing. It's hard to explain without resorting to drawing something, but I think what's happening is you start moving the volume pedal, increasing the level from -70dB or whatever the zero point is. But the actual zero point of the signal coming is whatever you have the threshold set to, so the volume pedal isn't starting from the bottom of the sweep. It's starting in the middle, from wherever the gate open up. So instead of smoothly coming up from zero, it just pops on, and then finishes the sweep. The rest of the sweep probably isn't nearly as noticeable, though, because it's a less gradual increase.

FBV 3 - Are Line 6 short of sight?
phil_m replied to Ed_Saxman's topic in FBV Controllers (MKI / MKII / 3)
I asked Digital Igloo this same question about the Helix Control a few years ago back when it was still in development. The simple answer is it's a matter of cost. The Line 6 controllers are "dumb" devices. That's to say it would be more accurate to think of them like remote controls rather than standalone controllers. They don't have brains (meaning MCU, storage, file management, more robust firmware development). To add that sort of functionality to them would be expensive from a time and money standpoint, and the MIDI controller market is kind of a niche within a niche. It's not worth increasing the price of the controller a $100 - $200 to add a feature that most users would never use. -
You can increase the gain inside the DAW any number of ways. You don't want to, though. The dry signal is the signal directly from your guitar, which is quite low. You want to keep it like that for re-amping purposes because when you send it back to the Helix it will be correct for being sent back through the Helix's signal path. So don't mess with it.
-
You're talking about the noise gate in the input block? It's the very first thing in the chain... I'm not sure how it be anything else. It just sounds like the volume pedal is being short circuited by the gate. The volume pedal isn't getting any signal until the gate opens, and then when it does, it slams it. So it wouldn't leave much travel in the pedal.

TB516G battery usage - uses power in sleep mode ?
phil_m replied to jeffkluth's topic in Relay Digital Wireless
Yes, it uses some power in sleep mode. It has to just to keep the auto-sensing feature active. -
I should probably preface this by saying I don't play a ton of heavy stuff. But more recently I've been having fun with the Custom 1 bank on my JTV69US. I loaded the JTV89 pickups there in Workbench, and I have really liked them. I recorded this over the weekend using mostly the baritone tuning. All the guitar tones in this piece are from the Variax. They're all the 89 model except for the one clean rhythm part, which is the Spank model. Everything (well, all guitar and bass) was recorded through the Helix. All the high gain tones are the Fatality model using on of the Allure IRs (the 412 Cali V30). The clean tones are an Archon Clean patch I made a while ago. The bass is not from the Variax. It's a Fender Dimension V. https://soundcloud.com/phil-miller-20/back-to-the-fold

I actually went and mixed the hi-hat a little lower after seeing this comment... Was thinking it was a little much too. I have a love/hate relationship with mixing. It's fun, but I also find it frustrating at times. Sometimes it feels like you're trying to hit a moving target. Well, the main Fatality patch I used was actually one of the factory patches (just called Line 6 Fatality). All I did was replace the cab with the Allure Pack IR I mentioned above. I also added a tremolo model for the trem parts. I think I may have messed with the delay mix a little as well. Anyway, I can probably share it later...

Made this just for fun... Not typically into heavy tones, but I've been messing around some of the high gain stuff on the Helix and have been having tons of fun. All the guitar tones are from JTV69US. Almost all the heavy rhythm tones on this tune are the JTV89 pickups as modeled in Variax, tuned down to baritone tuning (some are done with standard tuning). All the high gain tones are the Fatality model using on of the Allure IRs (the 412 Cali V30). The clean tones are an Archon Clean patch I made a while ago. https://soundcloud.com/phil-miller-20/back-to-the-fold
