Well on page 66, Helix 3.0 Owner’s Manual - Rev E English, it states: By default, Preset footswitch mode displays eight presets (four on each row). Choose from “8 Presets,” “Preset/Stomp” (one bank of presets on the top row, switches from stomp mode on the bottom row), “Stomp/Preset” (switches from stomp mode on the top row, one bank of presets on the bottom row), “Preset/Snap” (one bank of presets on the top row, Snapshots 1-4 on the bottom row), “Snap/Preset” (Snapshots 1-4 on the top row, one bank of presets on the bottom row), “Snap/Stomp” (Snapshots 1-4 on the top row, switches from stomp mode on the bottom row), “Stomp/Snap” (switches from stomp mode on the top row, Snapshots 1-4 on the bottom row), and “8 Snapshots” (Snapshots 1-8). It is full of amazing information - read study and inwardly digest. Plus! reading and following the information supplied in firmware release notes, is very useful. Also, as note by “rd2rk” in the post above - the that the Scribble Strip above the Mode Button (FS6) now displays which mode is currently active—Preset or Stomp. Hope this helps/makes sense

Hi, Definitely raise a ticket with CS and then they will be aware of this issue. Great piece of detective work - that -8609 error code is one to make a note of. You didn’t say what your computer OS is - but I found a reference to that -8609 code which is the Windows device manager - apparently it’s related to some sort of driver problem. Not sure if it may be related. Sterling work.

Hi, That error code is not one I’ve seen previously and initially thought it might have been a conflict with the differences in the hardware, but this is from the HX Exit Pilot’s Guide. ” *IMPORTANT! As of firmware version 3.0, the preset file structure has been changed to accommodate the new features and functionality on all Helix and HX devices. Presets saved or exported from any Helix or HX device running a previous (version 2.x) firmware are still fully compatible with HX Edit 3.0 and your Helix or HX device with v3.0 firmware. However, presets saved or exported from Helix and HX devices with v3.0 firmware or Helix Native v2.0 (or later versions) are not compatible with earlier versions. We highly recommend backing up and keeping copies of all your v2.x-created presets before updating to firmware v3.0.” Not sure if this is any assistance or makes sense of your situation.

I have been using HX Native in Logic regularly since 2016 - never encountered any issues like that. Upgrade every time a new version appears. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Yep- that's the XPS Mini for the 300 series - it was supplied with my Variax Acoustic 300 Nylon. Still got it right here, can't remember the last time I needed to use it. IIRC, I have the old XPS-AB lurking around here someplace. I had that for the old Variax 600 which is in a sleeping bag over in the corner. I vaguely remember loaning out one of those transparent boxes that were for use with the first version of Workbench - that never reappeared, but I didn't need it because I then moved on to using the POD XT Live as an interface, followed by the POD HD500 and now Helix floor which I can use with the JTV 59. There are always batteries around if needed.

I realise that you have had your Helix for quite sometime, but this joystick encoder issue seemed to become a bit of a nuisance back in 2019 when there was a spate of complaints about the change to how the joystick responded to a a “long press”. You may want to check this thread for anything which may help you. Also, IIRC, I read somewhere that removing the knob from the encoder and a little squirt of contact cleaner fixed the rotary function issue - not sure if that was for the rotary encoder on the left hand side, or the joystick - can’t find the original comment just at the moment.
-
Ah, right. Just going through a process of elimination. O.K. As you have checked out the usual suspects, it maybe, as you said a fluke. It’s not unknown for a joystick to get flakey - the solder joints can go “dry” and need a tech to fix the joints. I know it happened to me, and when it does you think you are going slightly mad - “how can it stop working?”, you ask yourself. Well as we are aware - stuff fails. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Helix Hiss - all outs, no input signal, New empty present

Hi again, Has this mixing desk got a brand name/model and or tech spec we can check out - purely for a little more insight. It’s all a little vague. -

Hi, Not sure if this might be a contributing factor, but if you are running a mono output try using the Left XLR Socket. From the manual:- ”When using a mono playback system, connect only the LEFT/MONO XLR jack.” Hope this helps/makes sense. -
The drummer must have been the "Lucky Man" - the only one left. Great 3 piece outfit in their time, Keith and Greg are both sadly missed.
-
Nope - don't think that's in the Helix - maybe you imagined it? :)
-
Oh, it will work, but you wouldn't like the result. See this very old post re: phantom power and XLR connections. ;-)

As mentioned by “silverhead”, simple answer - no. HX Edit is the remote editor and librarian utility for the whole range of HX products and each one has completely different hardware features, eg: footswitches, in/out connections, etc. All these functions are set on the individual pieces of hardware as preferences and backed up by HX Edit in a file which you save to your computer. Hope this helps/makes sense.

HX Stomp sounds better when HX Edit is running. Why?
datacommando replied to Picksalotmore's topic in Helix
Once more - your guitar is not a stereo device. The stereo inputs are for the connection of stereo pedals, keyboards, synths, etc., for example a drum machine sending a stereo signal that will probably only require a reverb block after it. Or a synth pad, lead line, whatever that is already a stereo signal for added delay fx. What you are doing is creating a dual mono input, which is not the same. What both “PierM” and I are suggesting is that you hit the input in mono from your guitar and then (as you, have actually quoted from the manual) - “a Split > Y block all the way left, set its BalnceA to “L100” and its BalnceB to “R100,” you can process the L/MONO and RIGHT inputs independently. In addition, if you route the Mixer block to Path B (Send L/R), you can process two instruments simultaneously, each with its own mono input, stereo processing, and stereo outputs!" Anyhow, your original question was along the lines of why does it sound different - well that looks like it could be your approach to sound design. O.K., with all this stuff there are essentially no rules - “Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law”. If it works for you - great, but the downside is if you ask for advice about something on this forum, then you are likely to be pointed in another direction by more seasoned users. If you chose to ignore that advice, maybe they will be unwilling to do so in future. Also, you commented earlier, regarding the “duplicate signal” from your mixer and USB through your speakers - “I absolutely love that sound, so I want to understand how its happening so I can recreate it on the Stomp without being connected to my Mixer or Laptop.” Easy enough to create by using a very slight unmodulated delay of 5 to 12ms to replicate what you were hearing from the speakers. Make it even more obvious by using a dual pitch shift, only with no pitch change, with for example, a 8ms delay on the right, and a 10ms delay on the left. Hope this helps/makes sense - possibly not! -
Hi, Are you referring to the PolyWham effect? See Jason’s vid at 20:52 - see if that is what you mean. Or, was it possibly this 3 Osc Synth effect @ 1:59 Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, I think you may have misread the comment, in the manual, about using a Y cable. The reference is in respect of the ability to use 2 expression pedals with a TRS 1/4 Jack to a pair of TS Jack Plugs. The recommendations for input are either L & R for stereo, or, L for mono. Follow the advice give bu “PierM” in the post above - “mono cable to HX Stomp L input” Hope this helps/makes sense. -
Illogical to ask that type of question in here, Line 6 never reveal whatever they have planned until it happens. We are all users, not Line 6 staff, very rarely do they ever visit this user group. Some known hang outs are over on TGP and FB. Ask tech support!

As mentioned by “rd2rk” - here’s what the guy who created that model (among others) says: https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/line6-helix.1586637/page-1536#post-23073401 Hope this helps/makes sense.

BUT, BUT, Steve Vai can do this after surgery on his right shoulder, and carpal tunnel messing up his left hand. I think I might get very drunk and bite my fingers off! ;-)
-
Latency? It hasn’t troubled me in the past 5 years, so I didn’t think I will be worrying about this sort of (scientific) nonsense in future. This was previously mentioned in respect of the Helix processed and dry audio signals into a DAW for re-amping. If you compare the signal peaks they are slightly off. It is easy enough to fix - not a problem. Frankly, my Helix is very good at what it does - I won’t lose any sleep.

What's the Best Way to Integrate External Wah?
datacommando replied to Steve_roberts's topic in Helix
Yep! Not much to go wrong with a wah pedal, a couple of jack sockets, a few wires and a variable resistor. -
Hi, It’s a little vague - going to need more info if you expect assistance, especially with USB voodoo. What version of the OS is the MBP 2015 running? What revision of the HX Firmware is currently installed on your HX Stomp? ”My HX Stomp no longer connects to my Macbook Pro”, and “HX Edit no longer finds the device and neither do my DAWs or the Mac settings” - This indicates that it did previously, so what exactly changed and why? Are your HX Edit and the Firmware both on the latest versions? If not the revision numbers must match, unless they are HX Edit 3.10 and Firmware 3.11 “I installed appropriate drivers” - which drivers did you install, and why? “Any help would be appreciated” - you need to help us to help you - but as it is way past midnight where I am, someone else might pick this up before I get back. Hope this helps/makes sense.

I think the confusion may have arisen because you are discussing Studio monitoring, which is why “cruisinon2” mentioned whether you “want to be reaching behind two monitors” constantly. Many other replies are regarding live situations, as the example given by “HonestOpinion” in the post higher up in this thread, where he mentions control of his on stage monitors and the feed to FOH. Horses for courses, or maybe I’m reading this wrong. Hope this helps/makes sense.

Hi, Ahh, maybe you could try using the information in the HX Stomp XL 3.0 Owner’s Manual on page 22 - Setting Path B’s Output. See if that gets what you need. I use a Helix floor and don’t have access to a Stomp XL, therefore I cannot verify it, and I cannot be sure this is is what you are trying to achieve. Give it a shot. Hope this helps/makes sense.
