  1. Hi Writing this as information about BSOD involving Helix and Hx Edit. After have hade a whole bunch if problems on my old PC, that I solved, built a new one on which one problem persist, BSOD when turning my Helix LT off. Future will tell if I’m right or wrong… Short story – In >95% of the cases when I turn my Helix LT off and have HX Edit running I get a BSOD. If I close HX Edit before I turn the Helix LT off, never a problem. Most often with different error codes. My conclusion – If HX Edit is running and has an established connection to the Helix LT my PC crash/BSOD, most likely due to HX Edit losing connection to the Helix LT. I guess the drivers and/or the HX Edit causes conflicts resulting in the BSOD. The BSOD happens sometimes immediately when turning the Helix LT on and sometimes it can take a few seconds. But it happens… In September I build myself a new PC with a gen 10 processor and all hw new. Running Win 10 (latest version and updated drivers for motherboard), 16 GB RAM, M2 C:\-OS disk and separate SSD-disks for storage and recording. Optimized for audio/sound recording and do not use it for gaming. So, no G-hub, no mouse or keyboard drivers (HID) etc. Some connected devices using dedicated USB-ports, eg my Helix LT, Focusrite 18i6 (with drivers from September 2020) and from yesterday also my PC+ 112. Connected via USB are also mouse (wireless), keyboard, a USB-hub in the screen, all connected to one USB-port with one hub. On my old PC (gen 3 processor running Win10) I had some other problems too, some causing BSOD and some causing freezing/extremely slow, eg G-hub driver problem, Microsoft updates screwing up my soundcard and some other applications, Focusrite drivers that had problems even causing BSOD etc. Those problems I solved, but the BSOD with HX Edit are the same on both the new and the old PC, this I can’t find another explanation than what I wrote above. There is on more common point that I can’t prove not being involved, the graphic card (NVIDIA). Different cards but the same driver platform (GeForce Experience). Have no graphic issues, but you never know. As long as I remember to turn off HX Edit I have no real problem with this issue. I can wait for a bug fix and hope this can be a part of finding a solution. So why do I bring this up? Haven’t seen this described before and I think this can be one of problems generating BSOD for some or other interruptions eg during sw-updates. Well, other things can cause that too, like not reading instructions/manuals, PC not in shape, USB cables, USB-hubs, bad USB-ports etc. But this happens to me on two completely different hardware platforms (and I do read manuals and instructions :-). That’s more than a coincidence and has the potential to even cause other problems, other than the one I have seen. One thing I can’t explain is that I never have had a problem to run an update, have never ever had a failed update. I would expect a failure eg. when there is a reboot involved… but never. My best guess is that the Helix LT doesn’t lose power during reboot, so the drivers are still “active/not released” on my PC. But this maybe be different on different PC’s. So, my speculations in a nutshell... I have opened a ticket on this and reported my conclusions/findings to Line6. And now document it on the support forum hoping it can helps to save someone from a BSOD :-). If you have any ideas on this I gladly take your feedback. Thanks for reading this dreadful long post and wish you a continued Merry Christmas. Take care… //Per
  2. You can keep it, it's 8 per preset and 64 parameter per snap. That time 127 preset per bank, time 6 banks Happy Christmas //Per

Hi Made a mistake when publishing my modeling summery. Had two version, one with and another without flagging the new add-on amps/cabs/effects. Now corrected both here and in my post above. Correct link to my dropbox is - https://www.dropbox.com/s/v9jzvcxuym3p0p4/Line6 Helix-Model Summary%2C P3%2C00-02.pdf?dl=0 Sorry for the confuse... //Per

Hi Thanks for your response LMS stands for Legacy, Stereo and Mono. Made a change of this last version mostly because I did not have a good way of reflecting if the legacy stuff was mono or stereo. This is not perfect either because some of the legacy stuff are mono in and stereo out, eg some delay and reverb. I will look into it next version, now the focus is to try out all new stuff in 3.0 :-) //Per

Hi Have made a new version of my cheat sheet, Line6 Helix Model Summary v3.00, for the ones who still like it on a printed sheet or as a file on your PC/MAC. All models up to firmware 3.00 are in there and as usual they are in the order of appearance on the unite. Have also corrected some errors and mistyping. There is a few parameters I do not yet have the info on and they are marked TBD (eg impedance of the Horizon Drive) and will be updated when I find the info. Else, same format as before. Download it from my Dropbox here - https://www.dropbox.com/s/v9jzvcxuym3p0p4/Line6 Helix-Model Summary%2C P3%2C00-02.pdf?dl=0 Take care and have fun... (sounded a bit like a contradiction :-) //Per
  8. Gave them a test run, all 6, in a clean (WhoWatt) and a OD (Brit Plexi Brt) patch. Used my Gibson LP and my Strat (SSS) in all positions. These are great work roscoe5... I just added them to my top 15 list of preferred IR’s. Will have to do some more testing but think they just kicked out my Celestion Shure 412 GB and V30 IR’s… You just chance my to-do list for the weekend and my neighbors will get crazy on me. I will blame you :-) Have a fantastic weekend Take care… //Per
  9. Thanks so much roscoe5. I try them out in the next few days. So grateful when I get a recommendation and even better with one or two IR's that are tested and have a chance to work. Have a collection of too many IRs, purchased and free ones. Last one that I bought was the Celestion Suhr pack (500 IR's to scan through), I was lucky to read a post that had tested them all and made 9 recommendation... that's the ones I use together with 3 others. Else returned to standard cabs, mostly for 1x and 2x cabs (Grammatico 112 is a favorite). Haven't had so much luck with the 412 standard cabs so looking forward to test yours. Take care... //Per

    MIDI Expression Pedal

Thanks for the reply soundog, and also verified some of my other thoughts Well it's always a budget question :-)... I looked at the M-Audio as it came up in another thread. Haven't seen the Yamaha before though, will look into that also. Before I "went midi" I also had Boss EV-30 on my list. Size (have dramatically down sized my pedal board) and compatibility to Helix was top priority. During the process I saw application that I probably need midi support and that's why EX3 (and FS3) came up. Had a Behringer FCB1010 with a UnO-chip and the editor, could do a whole bunch of magic. Was part of my POD XT and POD HD Pro rig (incl RJM Mini Effect switch Gizmo for external stomps) and controlling my DAW. So if I can't verify that the EX3 and Helix can handle the job through midi I will go for the one of the two analog choices above. Take care... //Per

    MIDI Expression Pedal

Thanks for the reply emillkap I was also looking for the footsw, both units looks really good and would give me a great flexibility (will use it with Cakewalk, but have to check that too). Thought of use the FS3 to engage the EX3 and the onboard pedal instead of the "move function". One more quick question - Do you see any reason why the EX3 wouldn't work with the Helix (the FS3 looks like a no brainer)? Only thing I see is that there is only one midi command to toggle the state function of the pedal, midi CC#59/0-127, and guess its for the onboard unit (would have expect it to be more then one CC#, one per pedal, but haven't dug into that yet). Take care... //Per
  12. Hi Quick question - Anyone tested Beat Bars MIDI Expression Pedal on Helix? And if so, your experience and how did you use it? Link to the site - https://beatbars.com/en/midi-expression-pedal.html //Per
  13. Thanks for the comments cfhmonkey, much appreciated. I get more and more exited over the speaker emulation feature. I have lately used 1x12 and 2x12 speakers in my patches, both Helix original and IR’s and with really good result. Think this will give me more interesting options. I guess I will have some testing to do how to best do recording and to hook up to FOH. Looks like there is different opinions on this part. But that’s part of the game and will be fun. Glad you confirmed about the acoustic sound. That has actually been one of my concerns. Looking forward to test that, without the spikes (I also read your post - Volume spike when switching from FRFR to speaker modeling Powercab 112+). I guess I will make a package deal with my vendor to include an AES-cabler and a month of underwear’s ;-). Hope you solve that problem, with some help from rd2rk. I run my old Variax 500 fully analog (no VDI) so I hope I don’t run into the spike problem. (Correction - Sorry, wrong from me, its all in the PC+...) So, thanks for your feedback. Start to feel confident to go the PC+ way. Time to check prices… Also, thanks to rd2rk commenting on cfhmonkey challange. Gives me even closer to “daily work and challenges” :-).
  14. Hi rd2rk, thanks for the replay and your answers... much appreciated I start at the bottom – Well me, Google Translate and MS World are good friends :-). It will almost make you speak Swedish too :-) (Just a curiosity – A few years ago me and my former girlfriend was going to Florence, Italy. To do the “invitation” a bit more fun I wrote the “invitation” in Swedish, translated it to Italian and sent it by mail. She had to translate it back. Unfortunately, I did not check how the revers translation came out… It was not the reason she is former girlfriend, but we had a god laugh. Sentence is – check the translation both ways…). Acoustic – I think I feel safe there now, found some similar topics using it for playback. It will work just as any other source and I use FRFR-mode. Agree with you there, that’s how I see it too. I just wanted that confirmed in case I missed something. The big plus with PC+ as I see it are the “Amp in the room” as another tool to sculpture tones and also get a “mic’ed” output to FOH. I don’t mix that up with FRFR, two different applications. Tried to find someone using them, didn’t find anyone so had to ask. I have, as a primarily working hypothesis, the Helix as my main source, including standard cab's and a few IRs that I picked out, using PC+ in FRFR mode. Will be a bonus if I use IR on PC+ in some patches. Will experiment with the different voicings. And a perfect tone gets me going off. Since I am actually a pretty lousy guitarist, the tone is an inspiration to exceed my own capacity, to get a bit crazy :-). To be serious, I’m really curious on the speaker emulation. I use a lot of 112 and 212 in my patches, at this moment the Gramatico cab is my favorite, and speaker mode what got me inspired of the PC+. A real driver for me. Glad you mentioned how you recorded. That was one question I left out and you confirmed my thoughts here. I also have a Scarlett but the 18i6 (old one but works if Microsoft not shooting it down…) and plan to record that way in speaker mode. As the Helix probably will be my main source of sound, my main source for recording will be from there if I run FRFR mode. Point for some trial and error. I have no problem to dial up a patch from scratch, this is a lazy part of me talking. I get some cornerstones in may patches pre-configured, like od/dist/dly/rev/eq etc. I have 3 or 4 templates with different structure I use, all the blocks turned off by default. Add an amp/s and cab/s and go from there. Faster workflow for me, get the levels in the ballpark and add what I need from there. I got the idea from JS and his template and optimized it for my needs (one or more routing optins for amps/cabs, some blocks pre/post amp pre-configured, one for the Stomp etc.). Forgot to say, it's the Helix LT i have and use. Again, thanks for your feedback rd2rk. You confirmed some of my thoughts and also opened up for some more ides. Very much appreciated.
  15. Hi With the risk that I jump into something I don’t have the full knowledge about, so I leave a bit to Jason Satides to explain… I made a post in another thread yesterday linking to videos Jason S made a few days ago. I made it because what he says made sense to me. When I started with my Helix a few years ago I read some posts explaining to use unit gain in the whole signal path. I never could get that to work well. Ended up with noise and low levels to DAW and to PA. Hade to add gain blocks and lost control of tone. I change approach after reading another post on TGP explaining gain staging, the importance of input and output levels and that it was nearly impossible to run the digital part to clipping. Somewhere I read the recommendation to adjust the output signal to peak -7 db and the LUFS (short term mean) to about -18 db (LUFS is not really relevant in this application but give you a number to relate to). So I downloaded Youlean witch is a LUFS/peak application and made it easy to get a visualization of where I hade the levels. So I turned all blocks off except the amp/cab, dialed in a basic tone I liked with the levels as above. Added some dly/rev/eq/comp etc. after the amp/cab, all set to unity (not adding any gain). Everything before the amp can add gain to drive the amp or in unity add a flavor to your liking. At all times check the levels on the meter so the Peaks do not exceed 0 db. The patches need leveling depending how clean/distorted they are, but that’s done by ear and still checking the meter not to exceed 0 db. In context with this its also important to have control of other parts in the signal chain eg that the output blocks or L6 are set to 0 db and if the levels are off make the final adjustments to these blocks last. A few days ago, Jason S made 4 videos about this and he explains and show how this works. I will make some adjustments in my methods but it almost the same way as I done it and that works, he just explains and show it better than me :-). I think if you focus on the first and the third video you get some good advice from there. The other two is a bit more explanations in depth on some subjects. The last one can be interesting as it addresses the unity gain discussion… I made a post in another thread with the links to the videos - My disclaimer her is that I don’t own the PC+ the yet but based on the Jason S videos I feel confident I will get one soon (and don’t think level problems will be an issue as I works great with DAW, mixer/PA). Have some other questions I will have to close before I open my wallet :-). But that’s another story. Hope it will trigger some ideas to solve the problem you have Take care… /Per
  16. Hi I’m on my way to invest in a PC+ and have some questions I need to wrap my head around. So, turning to the expertise. And sorry for a long post… Background – Have used Line6 gear sin early 90’th and have my Helix LT for 3 years now and witch I’m super happy with. My guitars are fairly standard, Gibson LP, a Strat, an SG mod’ed for slide and my Variax 500 mainly for acoustic (and occasion same electric half acoustic)(don’t use VDI, use the XPS). Blues and rock are my areas of interest. Cheat sometimes on some jazz…. In front of my Helix I have a small pedalboard with some pedals I can’t live without, in order – Shure GLXD16 or Variax /XPS -> Compressor -> EP-boost clone -> BD2-> NS2 -> Lehle ground loop eliminator -> Helix. This goes to a mixer, to a power amp and to my speakers/monitors. So, what I like to do is to run the “Helix chain” into PC+ via L6 Link. I will connect the PC+ via USB to my PC for recording and run the PC+ editor (Helix is already connected). Will use L6 Link to control and audio to the PC+. Just by the book I think (page 23 in the manual), no special about that I think. I will set the Global on the PC+ to be controlled from Helix and store settings per patch (jepp, one of those who reads the manual…). My questions Acoustic – What is your experience with acoustic guitar direct PC+ and Helix/PC+? I intend to use my Variax XPS/XLR to the input of PC+ in FRFR mode and Variax via Helix and XPX/1/4 with an acoustic patch including some compression, preamp, reverb etc., maybe a good IR. Two different applications but will give some acoustic option. I feel safe to use the Helix for acoustic, do that today. It’s together with PC+ that is the main question. Any comment/suggestion/advice on that? How do you use the PC+ for acoustic? Electric - Another notice I made when searching PC-patches, very few used IR’s in the PC+ (found one, again with the risk I haven’t got all hits…). IR’s on Helix or speaker modeling on PC+ was the majority. Is there a disadvantage to load the IR’s on the PC+? How do you use it? My own comment/reflection are if I use standard cabs or IR’s I use FRFR-mode. That give me better control of the signal chain, the Helix will feed the final processed signal to the PC+ (delay, reverb, eq compression…). To use IR’s loaded on the PC+ the IR must do that final touch, page 9 in PC-manual the control room will be FRFR. Have some trouble to wrap my head around this application. If I use speaker mode on PC+, no problem. Just leave cabs out in the Helix. Feel free to correct me if I get this the wrong way… or over thinking this. Referring to previous point - Has anyone used the Live Ready Sound IR’s for PC+, https://livereadysound.com/impulse-responses/. This is supposed to be optimized to be used in PC+. If you tried it how does your signal chain look like and how did they sound? Any other IR’s optimized for PC+ you know of and used with a good result? Witch mode do you prefer/use, Flat (LF Flat/LF Raw)/Speaker/IR? Or are you using them all and maybe for different applications/style? In what occasion do you prefer one over another? Today I use both standard cabs in the Helix (think they are pretty good) and IR (have a few I use now and then) depending what I’m after. The PC+ is a bit different as the speakers “ends up” in the end of the chain, after delay/reverb/studio compression etc. Asking because I want to try using the full potential of the PC+. So, your experience is more than welcome. My patches are not very big/complex, how hard can it be to get a good blues/rock tone :-)… so no DSP-issues for now, but like to understand when/if IR's add anything in the Powercab. Today I have a template I use to make my patches, it’s a modified version of the one Jason Sadites published. Anyone using a template for their Helix/PC+ creation? And want to share it? As you probably understand, I'm trying to value Power Cab against investing in a better FRFR speaker. Speaker mode in PC+ is definitely a driver. IR’s in PC+ not so much at this point. FRFR absolutely, but I can get a FRFR-speaker for less money. But I might be corrected… that’s what I need you for :-). There are some more questions but let’s add them if needed. English is not my native languish so be gentle with me… //Per
  17. Hi I'm not a Powercab user yet but I found thouse videos from Jason Sadites that explain this well (I use similar way to make Helix patches with good result). There is four videos but I think if you look at the first you get the feeling how to make/gainstage the patches and then look at the third you see how he apply this to the Powercab. First video, basic on the Helix Second video, a deeper dive Third video, how to do this on the Powercab Fourth video, another explanation of details with focus on why not unity gain or more what it meens in context with Helix. Hope it make sense Take care.. /Per

  19. When you install Edit you get a question asking witch drivers to be installed. By default all are marked. Be sure to keep it that way. Do not unselect any any of the drivers during installation, can cause trouble...
  20. Hi I upgraded my hardware in my pc a week ago and installed win10/2004 and Edit 2.92. Edit worked but ASIO faild. I found a new drivers on line6.com/software, version 1.95 (select Helix, Driver and Win10 it will be on top). They addressed Logitech GHUB issue. But, it solved my ASIO challenge. Give it a try. //Per
  21. Hi You need - The Stomp incl a patch with Amp + Cab -> Power amp with a power rating for the application (less then 200w) -> The passive cab. The Stomp can not drive a passive speaker. Sorry if i missunderstod your question. Two other questions - Anyone tried the Celestion F12-X200 with an accustic guitar? If so, how did it sound? - What kind of horn/difuser is needed to spred the hi fq's from the speaker? Have tried to find info without any luck... /Per

Grayson's Tune Town is it located in north Los Angeles? That's what I call a Music Shop. I could spend a day or two there :-). I think my next trip to US will be to LA. Have been in Chicago a couple of times, in Nashville, in Memphis in New Orleans and Austin. Fantastic places. Been in LA but only in business. If it's of interest...

Hi :-) This is way over limit of my knowledge... but I think its not the impedance itself, it's the response of the circuit it emulates. I think how this is done is probably the company secret, but my guess is it can be don down to component level. Like behavior of the tube in the amp, the tone circuit in the amp or how a cab effect the amp tone depending of impedance changes and interactions between circuits or how different pickups interact when connected etc. Think this is also the challenge HonestOpinion and some others are in to about how the input impedance are set dependent of pedal (active or bypassed) and how the signal chain looks like and how Line6 is doing this. One more challenge is that some stomps are not true bypass, they are buffered... I recalled this video from an interview with Ben Adrian on Line6. Its about modeling amps but if you listening to it and think stomp/effect I think its applicable - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bz9tO4-kAG4&feature=youtu.be. An interesting link to an article was also published in this thread by rd2rk - https://line6.com/support/topic/53289-how-modeling-is-done/ Sorry for an "avoiding" answer :-) EDIT: Forgot one thing - The input impedance in the Helix it self is not emulated, it is actual physically changed in the input stage. You set it by a value other than auto or it's set by a predefined value in auto mode. The trick starts when the effect is not in first position and how Helix chose input impedance when first effect are in bypass. (and fix some grammar :-) //Per
