  1. Since Helix was announced in mid-2015, Line 6's Helix Senior Project Manger "Digital Igloo" has mentioned in several videos and numerous online posts that, in essence, Line 6's Helix UI/UX and Helix Software UI/UX design intentions have never intended to be Skeuomorphic. FYI: "Skeuomorphism, is the design concept of making items represented resemble their real-world counterparts. Skeuomorphism is commonly used in many design fields, including user interface (UI) and Web design.... whatis.techtarget.com/definition/skeuomorphism
  2. Before your gig, you may want to do a Reset of your Helix. You could also Reinstall fw 2.30. Be sure to Backup any Custom Presets (and IRs, if any), so they may be Restored.
  3. Chill, Breathe, Relax, Rest, Sleep. 2.5 Firmware (fixed from the previously found bugs) will arrive shortly.
  4. Yup! Have several. Always dead accurate and stable, regardless if used in Polyphonic mode or not. I prefer the Strobe mode for higher accuracy. The unit is so compact, durable and reliable. I use them on Acoustic Electrics, Solid body Electrics, Semi and Partially Hollow Body Electrics. All with great quick and accurate results. It will be nice when Helix's Tuner delivers as stable reliable results. Helix's existing Tune is okay, but it is very jumpy. Just needs to be better stabilized. Hopefully by firmware 3.0
  5. Digital Igloo (Online Handle of Line 6's Helix Senior Product Manager), posted a few months ago that they are looking into this issue. There was no promise that this capability would be implemented, nor was there any timeline indicated. I would not expect this to appear in version 2.5 firmware (anticipated to be released this coming week).
  6. The Abbreviations TS and TSR refer to what you see at the connector ends of the cable. Both are 1/4" male plugs. The TS stands for Tip and Sleeve. Two Conductors. This is a typical Instrument Guitar Cable. The TSR stands for Tip, Sleeve, and Ring. Three Conductors. Used for a variety of purposes.
  7. Thanks for these posts guys! Much appreciated! I've had HX Native for two months w/o an adequate PC to run it on. Just got a brand new PC to run it, so I'm really looking forward to installing the imminently forthcoming new version in the next few days and bringing my entire Helix suite up to fw 2.5! Also going to give Reaper a close look. I keep hearing positive comments about it. Even from long time ProTools users.
  8. The Legacy Indicator appears to the right of the Legacy category Block Types in the Scribble Strips. See: the HXFX User Manual 2.50 PDF, Pages 11 and 16.
  9. It has always struck me oddly that the Mono vs. Stereo Block Types appear in separate sub-categories necessitating selecting one or the other prior to selecting the actual FX Block itself, as opposed to simply a Mono or Stereo designation parameter of a common Block Type. The current method also requires a bit of backtracking should your needs or choice change. I have no doubt that Line 6 clearly considered the current implementation, and that what we see it not an oversight. Line 6 has their reasons even if they have not been disclosed.
  10. Jason Sadite's recent Helix YouTube Vids regarding How to get Great Tone from the Helix are a must watch! He provides lots of in depth coverage on Helix's Compressors and Parallel Compression techniques! In the past several weeks he's posted well over a dozen videos. And the one he posted today, regarding his edit comments of a User Provided Preset's Tone (vid #2 in that series) also covers Parallel Compression and the Mix Parameter. Highly recommended viewing! Hope this helps.
  11. Not aware of any vendor selling the base receiver unit itself. You may want to contact Line 6 directly to see if they might have a suggestion. Otherwise, you may need to connect with a Buddy or another G10 or Spider V amp owner, here, on TGP, or on Reverb who would take your brand new surplus unit.
  12. It is pictured somewhere here on the G10 Forums. Essentially, it is an all metal Right Angle connector 1/4" TS Male plug with a knurled exterior Female TS 1/4" Jack. Hosa sells them too. They're only a few dollars. As for the short cable method I mentioned, imagine if you were using a ordinary guitar cable (of any length) that you routed/draped through the space just above where your guitar strap affixes to the lower bout strap button. The difference of course, is that you would only use a 1 foot cable, and, the cable would need a female 1/4" jack on one end, into which the G10 Transmitter connects. The transmitter than simply dangles an inch or several beyond your guitar strap. If you use a 2 or 3 foot cable, the Transmitter could fit in your rear pocket, but you may loose transmission range due to the signal being partially obscured by your body.
  13. The HXFX FAQ states that HXFX units shipping currently, contain fw 2.40. And, that all new HXFX users should install fw 2.50 once it drops in the next several days.
  14. Happy to help. Give it a try and see if it works for you.
  15. Also bear in mind that if you were to use a wireless unit such as the Relay G10, the impedance load seen by the next unit in the signal chain (Helix, a Pedal or the input of an Amp) and how it would react would no longer be to that of the guitar's preamp electronics. Rather it would be seeing the G10's receiver base output level values.
  16. Or simply use one of these in line phantom power eliminator (less than $35) : https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/889753-REG/sescom_ses_il_ppb_xlr_inline_phantom.html
  17. The G10 is a jewel of a Transmitter. Works great so long as it remains in range of about 50' clear line of sight. On side connector jack guitars like Les Pauls, use the included right angle connector if you will be playing seated (as on a couch, etc.) If you will not be using the included AC adapter to power receiver base unit, any common USB rechargeable lithium battery pack will do the job. The current drain of the G10 is very minimal. When I measured the unit I got, as I recollect, it was well under 500mAh, regardless, if in charging mode, or receiver mode. I posted to the values to this Forum way back then, so use Search if you care to find the values. As I recollect, the G10 Transmit Time rating for the G10 Transmitter is 8 Hrs. In Standby Mode (i.e after 4 mins of audio inactivity) the rated Standby Time is 200 Hrs. When fully charged the G10 Transmitter's battery will hold nearly a full charge for weeks if not used, and, so long as the micro switch is not depressed. Thus, do not leave the Transmitter fully seated in the charger/receiver base, if you turn off the power feed to the base. If you do, the Transmitter will switch into Standby Mode and in about 200 hrs, the battery will be exhausted. If you do shut off the power to the receiver base, I have found the best practice to simply pull up the Transmitter about 1/4" from the receiver base. This is sufficient to avoid activating the micro switch at the base of the plug. Another alternative to the protruding transmitter is to use a short (1 foot) Male to Female Extension cable and simply allow the extension cable to drape over your guitar strap where it meets the lower bout button. The weakest link to the G10 system, is the relatively feeble Micro USB jack on the receiver charger base unit. Unlike those commonly found on Smartphones and Tablets, etc., which are reinforced and secured by the casing as well as being relatively flush to the casing, the G10 receiver's Micro USB jack sits behind an opening in the casing and is only affixed to the PCB. Many have had issues with flexing of the connecting cable breaking the solder joints holding the jack to the PCB. Line 6 has asserted that they have improved the design, but I have not personally examined any current (newer) production units. When I first got my G10 in August 2016, I had three base units' USB jacks break over a period of several weeks, even though I am very gentle with my equipment! Line 6 promptly replaced them. Many users are now using magnetic USB breakaway style cables, so with any stress, the cable merely disconnects from the base.
  18. Your Ovation AE will likely sound better connected to the Helix LT's FX Return. However, you should certainly try using the Guitar In, and explore how that sounds. Go with what works best. In case you did not already know, the Input Block may be reassigned to use the FX Return.
  19. The JBL LSR305 is a very nice choice for near field monitoring. So long as it will be positioned near field, and, the LSR's XLR and 1/4" inputs are each balanced inputs, you are free to use either TRS 1/4" cables or XLR cables. Although 1/4" TS Instrument cables will work, they lack the separate ground conducctor of a TRS 1/4" cable or an XLR cable. In a short run of less than about 20' and where there are no nearby EMF or RFI sources, a good quality 1/4" TS Instrument cable may also do a fine job without any noise. If you have a spare cable to try, and it works well, there is no necessity to use anything else. As for another speaker, I do conur that another LSR305 would be a good step forward if you plan on doing any mixing or stereo playback monitoring, etc. As the new Series 2 version LSR305 speakers have just been released, the original LSR305 are available for as low as $99 from many resellers.
  20. Sony MDR-V6 and BeyerDynamic DT-770 Pro 250 Ohm version are what I use here. Each sounds outstanding with the Helix. Both are over the ear and provide some degree of isolation as they are each closed back designs. Make sure you take into consideration the type of material you are monitoring, recording, mixing, mastering, etc. YMMV.
  21. I have used the G10 to connect my Helix to my Fender Amp. It worked great, regardless, if connecting to the Fender's Instrument In or FX Return (Line In)! I've not tried it connecting to a mixer. It should work fine.
  22. Yup! And, they sound great unplugged too! And, their on-board tuner works!
