  1. You'll need to rule out if a Ground Loop may be present. Make sure the Alto and Helix are being powered from the same power strip. If different wall outlet receptacles are used, it may be these are on different circuit legs, or, if on the same circuit, one may be improperly wired. An inexpensive 3 prong receptacle circuit tester is a handy item to have.
  2. I'm more excited to see the new Toys, new Features, Enhancements, and Improvements than the new Amp models.
  3. The manner in which Ben nailed the sound and response of what we now appreciate and savor as "The Litigator," presents more than a sufficent basis to encourage Line 6 to allow Ben to do so again with another custom inspired creation. Just as Dumble tuned and built Amps for individual Client's preferences, Ben should have similar freedom to add to Helix's custom Amp line. I look forward to seeing more of Ben's creativity. If not in 2.30, then in future Helix Core firmware releases.
  4. Given the sheer magnitude of Line 6's efforts developing, programming, testing and introducing Helix Native -- soon to be followed by release of an entirely new generation of Helix Edit -- coupled with what must also be a massive undertaking to restructure Helix's software housekeeping procedures (Installation, Update, Backup, Restore, IR Management, etc.), It is no wonder that firmware releases have been less frequent. It remains impressive that fw 2.30 is being depicted to include 7 amps and 7 FXs. Regardiess when 2.30 and Helix Edit arrive, it is beginning to seem like 2018 may also be an active year of Helix releases, and when we may see Helix 3.0. I do not doubt Line 6 may have some fascinating announcements at Winter NAMM.
  5. Great feature idea! Submit your IdeaScale suggestion ASAP. Post a link to it here too. I look forward to voting for it. If you are active on the TGP Forums, also post the IdeaScale submission to the Helix thread there. If you are not active there, once you post the IdeaScale post link here, I can post something there pointing to it and this thread.
  6. Not a dumb question at all! In the digital realm, many of the analog rules no longer apply. If your audio recipe cooks up something that works for you, go with it! This is one of Helix's fantastic aspects. It's sort or a warehouse of great equipment in a studio/stage quality package without all the physical fuss of dollys, patch bays, patch cords, etc. And, it keeps improving with each firmware release.
  7. Although power problems could be the culprit, my first suspicion would be something in the specific Preset or Snapshot that was being used at the time of the failure. When you have the chance, examine your Preset for any and all Blocks that may affect the Gain Output settings, etc. If nothing jumps out at you, include that Preset with your Line 6 Support Ticket so the Preset can be examined by Line 6. There might be some odd combination of block and parameter settings that leads to the problem.
  8. The combination of Blocks -- and the values of their respective parameter settings -- in the Signal Path of a Preset, affects the resulting signal level from that Preset. The Factory Presets differ, as will your own. The Amp Blocks each are of different gain and volume structures. They are not level balanced amongst one another. This you do on your own. Use the Amp Block's Channel Volume parameter to alter the Amp Block's volume without altering the Block's tone. Most Blocks in the Signal Path have level or gain controls. Use those that are purposeful for your needs. You may also use the Output Block's level control, as well as insert a Gain Block in the Signal Path where you find it the most useful.
  9. Helix does not have an automatic gain parameter nor level adjusting Block to accomplish what you seek. Depending what Blocks you place in your Signal Chain, most have a level parameter. You can approach the issue heading upstream from the Output Block, or downstream adjusting the Channel Volume in the Amp Block or subsequent Blocks. If you're using Snapshots be sure to gain stage them as well, as the chaning combination of parameter values you may be adjusting, disabling/enabling can have a dramatic affect on the signal level.
  10. There has not been any official date nor specific time line announced. Hoping we'll see something released this month.
  11. Helix Instrument level output configuration would be the normal setting intended to feed a tube amp's front end (Instrument input). Nonetheless, so long as you were to begin with your tube amp's gain setting low, you could explore configuring your Helix output to Line Level. Helix's output signal voltage would be higher hitting the front of your Tube amp. So long as you are aware of this, you may discover that this hotter incoming signal level may yield some interesting tones. Start with your amp's gain setting low and bring it up gradually to see how it plays. You may find some usable results. YMMV.
  12. Sure! You can do this in a variety of ways. Helix is very flexible. By default, Helix's Input Block signals and FX Returns are routed to both formats (1/4" and XLR) of Helix's Main Outs. You may change this routing via your Signal Path Block Parameter configurations via Pan parameters, via Global Settings, and Output Block configurations. If you are connecting a mono signal source to Helix, it will be present at both the L and R 1/4" Main Output Jacks. It will also be present at the FX Send 1/4" Outs if you define an FX Send Block in your Signal Path. Regarding two Pickups from your Acoustic Guitar, you could use Helix's Main Guitar In and Aux In, or Main Guitar In and an FX Return. The latter woudl be he way you would have to go if you have a Helix LT. Depending on the design of your Acoustic's pickups, you may would need to adjust the signal levels accordingly due to the output of the Acoustic's pickups. If you have full Helix (Floor or Rack) you could also explore the Helix's Mic XLR In (depending on the output type of your Acoutic's pickups/eletronics pkgs). Once connected to the Helix you would define another signal path. Either Path 1B or 2A, unless you chose to use the FX Return and defined an FX Block on your Path 1A Signal Path. As Helix offers many signal path routing, Serial, Super Serial, Parallel, etc. there are several ways to configure what will work best for your acoustic and any other desired Blocks in your Signal Path (Compressors, Studio Tube PreAmp, Chorus, Reverb, Delay, etc.) Also bear in mind that Helix's two DSP chips are dedicated one each to Path 1A/1B and Path 2A/2B. Thus, if your Path 1A/1B becomes too conjested with Blocks such that it consumes DSP resources of the first chip, route your signal path to Path 2A/2B. The Signal Path routing is done, first, using the Joystick to select an existing block in Path 1A, then using the Action Button, then dragging the selected Block down to create Path 1B. Once you have done this, you may then select the Spiit and Merge points (also known as Blocks), as well as the Output Block of Path 1A or Path 1B to access other Menu choices by pressing the Joystick button. The actual process is quicker than reading the description! ;) Hope this helps, and I'm sure that others will also provide more insights.
  13. Agreed. This would be a nice feature on the unit. Voted it up.
  14. After spending a good deal of time with both a set of the JBL LSR305 and the JBL LSR308 (as well as a pair of Yamaha HS8) used strictly as near field studio monitors, I opted for the larger JBL LSR308. The LSR308, for me, delivered the best sound, enlarged sweet spot, robust bottom end, and more headroom than the LSR305. Although they are quite a bit larger, and a bit more costly than the LSR305, if you can fit them in your space, they are exceptional for the price. I also found them smoother sounding than the Yamaha HS8, without the Yamaha HS8's significantly higher price. As these are Studio Monitors with exposed speakers, I do not use these as wedge monitors nor as floor positioned backline monitors. For that I did go Yamaha and got a set of DXR10 Monitors. For price efficient bedroom use the LSR305 are great. If you have the space, do consider the LSR308 for a bigger fuller sound.
  15. Thanks, appreciate the vote! Hopefully, this may gain more voter support and Line 6 may include the feature in future firmware. I just posted to the massive TGP Helix thread, to let others know of this thread.
  16. If you're brining in Analog Stereo from a cell phone or media player's headphone out jack, you will need to connect to Two (2) of Helix's FX Returns if you want to retain the Stereo signal feed. You'll also need to define the FX Return Blocks in the signal path, or reconfigure the Input Block to use the FX Returns. If you're bringing in Digital Stereo via USB, Helix's FX Returns are not used. The Full Helix models (Floor and Rack) have Four FX Returns, as well as other I/Os and features not offered in the Helix LT.
  17. Another issue I find frustrating when auditioning amongst Helix's Cabs and the Mic selections is that when pressing the Mic Parameter knob, the Mic selection does not revert to the default Mic parameter value selection! Rather it changes to the first Mic in the list of Mic offerings. The vast majority of parameter knob values, when pressed revert to the default value -- not the first value in the range of parameters for that knob. Many months ago I posted this as a Bug report and was advised this is the designed behavior of the Mic parameter knob. I then submitted the preferred configuration as an IdeaScale post. It is available to be voted up if you desire. Here's the Link: https://line6.ideascale.com/a/idea-v2/871855
  18. Demoed several Takamine guitars over the weekend with a Relay G10 system. The performance was outstanding! No noise, hum, nor other issues whatsover.
  19. Neither of my Yamaha DXR10 sound muffled! They are sparklingly clear, full and robust.
  20. Helix Core aka Helix firmware. "Helix Core" is the term Digital Igloo used when describing upcoming Helix Native firmware releases. As Helix firmware is now platform inclusive (Helix Native, Helix Floor, Rack, and LT), my impression was that we'll begin to see Line 6 using the term "Helix Core" more often when referring to the Helix platforms' firmware. There was also at least one post mentioning likely 2.40 and 2.50 releases with 3.0 a long way off.
  21. I'm at 2.20 and awaiting 2.30 with the new Helix Edit. Hopefully, by the time 3.0 arrives (my guess, likely not until 2018) the entire Backup, Update, Rebuild, Restore scenario will have been overhauled.
  22. I use Sony MDR-V6 Studio Monitor Headphones (I have several pair) and Shure SE530 IEMs with the Helix. They sound great with the Helix. I have used them for years before getting the Helix, so I am very familiar with their sonic character. YMMV.
  23. This would be another useful Tip/Suggestion to be indicated w/ the Lightbulb Icon, once Line 6 publishes an updated Helix User Guide when Helix Core 3.0 arrives. This may not be until 2018.
