In the past few months, I picked up two Takamine Acoustic Electrics, each has Takamine's CT4B-II Preamp and Palatheic pickup. The guitars are the P3DC and the EF341SC. They sound spectacular straight into the Helix Floor's AuxIn. Add Tube Pre-Amp, Compression, Chorus, Reverb, and Delay to taste. Outstanding. No need for IRs.

There is a nominal risk that the Helix units will be superseded by anything from Line 6 at the upcoming NAMM Show. As most Helix dealers have a very reasonable No Questions Asked satisfaction period, should you go with a Helix now and discover something preferable at NAMM, or, feel that Helix fails to suit your needs, simply return it and move on. Line 6 has already posted (here or on the TGP Forums) that their official announcement of the full details of several new HX level Reverbs, new Amps, and more, comprising Helix platform's next firmware release will be at or around NAMM. No release date has been announced. Nonetheless, it should be in the next several weeks, as Line 6 did mention that their goal was for around NAMM.

Absolutely nothing wrong with using two Compressor Blocks; one at the head end of the Signal Path (to tame incoming signal transients to taste), with another at the tail end of the signal path as a Mastering concept before sending to the Helix outputs. The only rule to audio creativity is, if it sounds good, go with it!

Another feature baked into many IRs is that their publishers' may have already used multiple mics in creating the single IR. If this happens to provide the right sound for your taste or needs, it is a simplified single block IR file that you can use. With Helix's Hybrid Cabs, Two (2) Cab Blocks would be required. You would then Blend them using different mics, mic positions, levels, ets. Plus, some IRs offer rear of cabinet mic placements. Helix Cabs do not offer this. The closest you can get would be to reverse the phase of one of the Helix cabinets in the Merge Block of a Parallel Signal Path. Not exactly the same result, but might yield some interesting results at times. Helix's Cab features are very flexible, if you care to explore what they can do, particularly when using multiple cabs split on Parallel Paths. Once you find the right IR for your needs, you're good to go! The task associated with of either path can be a lot of exploration, as the Helix offers a great many permutations of Cab, Mic Selection, and Placement, and the Third Party marketplace of available IRs offers tens of thousands of IR files (some free, most for a fee). Helix's cabs cost you no more than the price of your Helix or your Helix Native Plugin.

Helix LT with mixer for extra I/O and newbie questions?
MusicLaw replied to FBlackburn's topic in Helix
The DXR speakers can get thunderously loud, if needed. I chose the DXR10 over the DXR12 for the lighter, and more compact size, and I run two for a fuller and wider sound field, regardless if running Stereo. I do not run them very loud, typically at their Noon Volume setting. Even the lighter DBR speakers sound very good and Yamaha is running a Rebate Promo on them currently. See Yamaha's site for details. As for the Helix, I do appreciate the additional I/O and features of the Floor over the LT. Nonetheless, you certainly could run a mixer to accommodate more Inputs to feed to the LT's FX Returns. I you were to do so with the Helix Floor or Rack (each of which have the 1/4" AuxIn and XLR In plus 2 more FX Loops than the LT) would still be more flexible. Also, should Helix Native be of any use to you, it's discounted price for Helix Floor and Rack owners is $99, rather than $299 for Helix LT Owners. Either way you go, the Helix is a proven, solid, flexible, feature rich, thriving platform. Have Fun and Happy New Year! -
Rubber “cap that was in my helix box. Where does it go?
MusicLaw replied to iturnbolts's topic in Helix
You're not alone. I too found that same rubber cap loose inside the sealed plastic bag of my new Helix Floor, and wondered about it's rightful purpose. At first, I used it to cover the Expression Pedal adjustment bolt until I learned that it was intended for the Variax jack (a Hybrid of an RJ45 type Ethernet like jack inside an XLR jack). It took a bit of fussing to extract it from the Expression pedal bolt head. Moreover, as it is a flexible and relatively soft pliable rubber cap, although I was able to work it into the Variax jack, it did not want to seat flush. It struck me that a rigid cylindrical plastic snap on cap would have been a more secure and appropriate fit. Either way, it's been covering the Variax jack for over a year now, and I have no current plan for a Variax. So unless, Line 6 introduces some other purpose for that jack, such as Ethernet. or connect to some as yet to be introduced Line 6 product/device, the cap will remain where it is. -
Short answer is "No." Line 6 does not offer a download version of HX Edit for Win XP.

Anyone have a BLUE enCore 200 Active Dynamic Mic that they have used with the Helix? For those unfamiliar with the enCore 200 it too uses 48v to power the onboard circuitry.

A Les Paul w/ Coil Tapped Humbuckers and Phase Reversible wiring delivers a wide range of tones.

This would be spectacular!

Happy to help!

If not your notification settings, check you subscription or follow thread settings for each of the treads that you may be following. This may effectively be the same as the notification settings. Hope you get it sorted out.

GC's still showing the JBL LSR305 at $99ea. Yamaha just started a Rebate on their Pro Audio gear, including the HS speakers, some of their smaller Mixers, the DBR spkrs, and a few other items. Check Yamaha's website for details.

The Goal Zero YETI is a nice unit, but overpriced for their price per watt. A Plastic Tote/tub/footlocker, A high Amp hour capacity Marine or Automotive battery, a top quality AC Inverter unit, and a hand truck all strapped together would cost a whole lot less and may be more multipurpose capable. The Honda EU2000i Generator is the benchmark. I have one I've used for years for all sorts of camping, and remote location ham radio transmission power requirements, power tools, etc. Rock solid, quite, sips fuel, very clean power, always works. I have a 6 gallon accessory fuel tank that connects by replacing the generator's fuel cap, and extends the run time out to about 72 hours! Harbor Freight has an inverter Predator 2000 Generator. The Predator 2000 is half the price of the Honda 2000. Never used one. Amazon also lists numerous models at various prices from leading brands.

Thanks for the Producer's version heads up. Yet to decide if FL Studio will be right for my needs. It seems to be very house/dance/techno/beat centric.
-
Haven't considered FL Studio until today. I was leaning towards Reaper, but FL Studio looks very compelling. Probably will download both of their programs to give them a demo and see which one seems more intuitive and logical to me.

There is also the issue as to whether the Android device is capable of running in USB Host Mode via an USB OTG adapter cable. Some are not. The audio aspects are far more involved. Particularly when you consider that Helix runs 8 channels of Audio via USB. It would be nice to, at least, be able to use an Android device that does support USB Host Mode (all of mine do) to handle basic housekeeping of backing up and restoring Helix Presets, as well as downloading and installing the Helix Firmware Updates. We'll see in time if Line 6 brings these minimal features to the Android platform.

The Helix's Main 1/4" and XLR Output format jacks are independent regarding either format's L/Mono jack summing to Mono only that format's output. The other format remains unaffected.

Your best option is likely to be a quality Power Inverter that has a minimum rating of providing at least 100W @ 120V A/C with pure sine wave output. There are numerous brands and models that will easily do the job. The Helix is not a high current load/drain device. There is no massive current draw at startup. If you have any doubts, use (or borrow) a clamp-on style A/C Ammeter to see what it reports at Helix power up, and during typical use of both DSP chips. Your other alternative would be one of the modern generation small footprint generators (Honda, Harbor Freight) that deliver pure sine wave A/C output. These are likely far beyond what you want or need for mere busking, but are fantastic for field location operations where there's no power source. I've used both of the above alternatives for remote powered amateur radio transmission scenarios that involve far more clean power requirements and higher current draw to power radios, computers, RF power amplifiers, lighting, etc. Happy New Year.

The Blue enCore 200 is an Active Dynamic Mic that sounds exceptionally good. They are on sale through the end of the year. Buy one for $149, and you get Two. Many dealers are selling them for this price, such as B&H, Sweetwater, and others. They run on 48v Phantom Power, so it works great with the Helix Floor. The Active electronics in the mic yield approx an additional 4db of gain as compared to the same cartridge enCore 100 Dynamic Mic. Neither of these are Condenser mics, nonetheless they sound really good. If you do not need nor want the Active electronics the enCore 100 are also sold at the 2 for 1 price of $99. Check them out on the Blue website, or numerous YouTube vid comparisons.

AFAIK, this current Promo is for the current period only. You'd need to read the PDF on Line6's site. I know Line 6 ran one (or possibly two) earlier this year, but do not recollect the time frame(s). If your July Helix Floor purchase was during a Free Backpack Promo period, the claim was likely only valid during that time period, and was likely subject to the dealer's inventory. Again, you would need to check the terms of that deal. You may want to contact your dealer to see what they may be able to do. Not sure if any of the dealers are discounting the Helix Backpacks. Certainly wouldn't hurt to ask.

The Exterior Upper Pocket on my Helix Backpack measures well over 2 Inches deep from seam to seam. You could likely stuff it with gear a bit thicker, if needed, as the top will pouch a bit. The Lower Pocket will easily accomdate 4" thick of gear. Hope this helps.
