I have never liked the Pod tuners. I use a Peterson and it is way more accurate.

JTV modding gurus - opinions wanted

It should be possible to mod the passive tone circuit since it works without the batteries. -

How about turning the tone control down to back off the highs some. -

You are barking up the wrong tree here. This is a users forum. We can agree with you but that does you no good. You need to contact Line6. -
POD HD500 Driver Installs on one PC but not the other. Help.
Charlie_Watt replied to Xidion's topic in POD HD
If you had a Pod HD500 connected to it before, the drivers should already be installed and it should just work when you plug it in. -

Dream rig or Amplifi
Charlie_Watt replied to Woodstack's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
The HD500x can be intimidating with all of it's options and capabilities. Take your time and learn it - I recommend using the Edit program to program it. Ask questions here and try not to get frustrated if you don't get the tones you want right away. Unfortunately, the factory settings mostly suck. -
Installing an Earvana nut on a JTV69
Charlie_Watt replied to ajktsb's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
It is similar to the Feiton mod but much easier to do. It also doesn't rely on tweaking the tuning so you don't need a special tuning method. This is from what I have read several years ago and not from any personal experience so it may not be 100% accurate. I have used Earvana nuts with good results and they are easy to install without modifying your fretboard. -
Installing an Earvana nut on a JTV69
Charlie_Watt replied to ajktsb's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
That is the idea of the Earvana nut. It has slightly different positions for each string - and it's adjustable towards and away from the bridge slightly to help compensate the notes played close to the nut. I have them on several of my guitars and they make a difference if you play lots of chords near the nut. -
I wish they were 1 to 1 because I try to do all of my editing with my laptop. Having to get down to twiddle knobs is a pain. Fortunately, most of the stuff that isn't in Edit is stuff that you rarely change like the output mode.

Installing an Earvana nut on a JTV69

They are different. You may have to contact them and see if they know. The other thing is that the JTV69 neck is slightly narrower than a Strat neck. I put an Earvana nut on my Variax 500 many years ago and I used one designed for a Strat neck and it was fine. My 500 neck is slightly wider than my JTV69S though. I would carefully measure the width and string spacing then contact Earvana and get the right one. By the way, I really like Earvana nuts. Their first fret compensation does improve the tuning. -
I think a lot of us are waiting for increased connectivity before buying!

Jtv-69 Neck Issues - Fixed?
Charlie_Watt replied to gene1714's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Do that and all of the strings will detune when you bend. The Trem springs must be adjusted to keep the trem plate level not to how you want the strings to feel. String tension is based on gauge and scale length. (assuming standard tuning) Heavier gauge strings will require higher tension to tune them to standard tuning. -
Right. And you have to make sure you don't introduce any mono effects or the two signals will get mixed there and they won't be separate coming out the L and R.

No - the headphone output will not drive a passive cab. You would need an amplifier.

JTV 1/4" outputs - buffer question
Charlie_Watt replied to ColonelForbin's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I suspect that there is little difference I latency in the blend mode since both the mags and model are being processed digitally. -
JTV-69 and VDI Cable
Charlie_Watt replied to jcosta_sr's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
VDI has always been solid for me. Used it for years. I leave it plugged in most of the time with my guitar on a stand. -
I hope you are not surprised. This thing is designed from the ground up for the speakers and I am sure they made it very tight inside. Modifying it is not a good idea. If you want a larger speaker you should have bought the 150.

If you buy a second hand POD, will you have USB connection issues?
Charlie_Watt replied to hoodermaniax's topic in POD HD
I found out the hard way that these devices will not work at all on slower USB ports. I bought a USB isolator that only runs 12MBit and the pod will not work with it. I was trying to see if I could reduce ground loop problems. Unfortunately, I have not found a USB isolator that will run full USB2.0 speed. -
Unbalanced and balanced outputs are the same signals. You can probably set it up for left being guitar and right being mic but that will only work if none of the things in the path are mono.

It's custom! You will have to buy it through Line6.

JTV 1/4" outputs - buffer question
Charlie_Watt replied to ColonelForbin's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
There will be a comb effect if the two signals are identical except for the delay. Some frequencies will cancel and some will be amplified due to the phase shift. Time delay is a nonlinear phase shift.
