What Zap said was that "we don't run the forums", so really he didn't answer your question. We do have access to some moderation tools, but we typically don't do a lot of actual moderation. Ideally, things don't need moderated that much. Prior to the new software rollout six months or so ago, there were no other moderators besides the relative handful of Line 6 staff. If you remember correctly, the old forums were overrun with spambots, and by the time an actually employee could get to them, there were so many spam posts, the forums were saturated. I think Line 6 wanted to mainly make it so there was at least more eyes on the forums that could do something. And, really, that's the bulk of the moderation duties I've ever done - delete spam postings and approve new memberships to make sure it's a real person. I'm not interested in censoring anyone, but there are some posts that clearly go over the line sometimes.

Yes, per the manual:

You can adjust presets without running the app, but you're limited to the knobs on the top of the amp. If you have the FBV Shortboard, you can also turn effects on and off within a preset. You can also save the changes you make to that preset on the amp. What you can't do is select different amp, cab, or effect models. It's also worth noting that you can of course install the app on an iPhone. Personally, I don't ever go anywhere without my phone, so it would be pretty easy for me to make changes at a gig if I needed to.

No, I installed it for the first time on her iPad yesterday. It's the latest version of the app. I normally use my iPhone, so I wanted to see if I could get it working on the iPad.

You can't do it with a single humbucker, but you could take two single coils and put them close together wherever you want on the body and wire them in parallel. I don't know if it would give you the sound you're after, but it would be worth trying.

Well, some of the amp models are just louder than the others, and the difference is quite significant between some of them.

To echo what Silverhead said, we've let Line 6 know as far as we can. I have an iPhone 5S, and I'm experiencing the same thing others are here. It's still early in the morning in CA, so it will be a little bit before Line 6 opens up. I imagine it's something they'll want to get on right away though. I wonder if the version they had set to go to the app store got corrupted somehow. I don't really know enough about how that all works to comment intelligently, but hopefully it's something relatively simple like that.

Mixing Mag And Modeled Pickups
phil_m replied to Geamala's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
You can control the channel volume parameter in the amp block with the expression pedal without having another FX block. There's some quirkiness with assigning expression pedal control in HD500 Edit, though. But it will work. One tip is to not actually move the expression pedals while connected to Edit. That seems to cause issues a lot of the time. -
It seems pretty redundant to me to use the Amplifi as an amplification system for the X3L. They are built on the same modeling platform, so pretty much all the tones the XL3 can do (at least the guitar ones) the Amplifi can do on its own. As far as how it sounds using the aux in for a modeler, I've tried hooking up my HD500 to it, and it sounded OK. I didn't mess with it a whole lot. I don't think it sounded as good as connecting the HD500 to my studio monitors, though. The main thing I didn't like was depending on the 1/8" input. That's really not a very robust connection for live use. If you were going to do it, I'd recommend at least getting one of right angle 1/8" adapter to take some slack of the line so the line hangs down on the back of the amp. With a straight connecter, it's just too easy to pull it down and potentially damage the input.

Locking Tuners And Breakage
phil_m replied to bowermang's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I have broken my high E-string a few times on my JTV69, but it's not been that frequent. I attribute it more to my playing hard at the time. It broken at the saddle whenever it did happen. I would also that if you play the guitar with any frequency 3-4 sets a year is really not that many string changes. -
That's a typo. There is no AES/EBU output (technically the L6 Link connection is an AES/EBU connector, but it can't be used as an AES/EBU output). It can be. It doesn't have to be dry, though.
-
I had forgotten about this feature. But, just to be clear, when we're talking about the dry signal here, it's completely dry. It's not just the effects that aren't applied to it. It won't go through the amp model either. So taking the signal to the board would be just like plugging the bass directly into the board. It certainly can be done, but I don't think it's what the original post had in mind. What I was talking about as far as output mode is that typically you'd use different output modes when you're connecting to a power amp and cab versus connecting to a mixer. For the power amp and cab, you'd usually use one of the power amp modes - Combo or Stack Power Amp. When connecting to a mixer, you'd want Studio Direct. The output modes change how the cabinet models in the HD500X are voiced. What I was saying is that with a bass the differences between these output modes might not be as noticeable, and it might be acceptable to have the same mode going to both the power amp and the mixer.
-
It's possible, but you can only have one output mode to the unit overall, and it effects all the outputs, so it might be something of a compromise. With a bass, though, it might not be as big of a deal.

You know... I misread your first post. I think probably because I saw the second reply, I was thinking you were asking if the reverb on the XTL could be controlled via MIDI... As far as changing the MIDI commands the XTL sends, there's no way to do that. It has a set MIDI map. I don't know if there's a CC for reverb on the 11 Rack. I imagine there probably is, but you'd have to look in its documentation. One thing you could do is map the command for a footswitch on the XLT that you're not using to be the CC you want it to be. You need a device like this: http://www.midisolutions.com/prodevp.htm I have one for my pedalboard. It comes in quite handy.
-
It's totally possible. The XTL is one of the PODs with a comprehensive MIDI map, so you can control virtually any parameter via MIDI. Reverb mix is controlled by CC#18. You can also toggle the reverb on or off via MIDI by sending the right values over CC#36. It's all laid out here: http://line6.com/data/6/0a060b316ac34f0593546810e/application/pdf/MIDI%20Continuous%20Controller%20Reference%20-%20English%20%28%20Rev%20F%20%29.pdf

If you're using iTunes Match and have songs in the playlist that aren't actually downloaded onto your device, Amplifi won't play them. You have to play them outside of the app in the Apple Music app to download them. Then your playlist should work.

Variax Dead After A Firmware Update
phil_m replied to guitbasse's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Are you sure you had an adequate charge on your battery when you did the update? It sounds as if perhaps the battery died when you were trying the update. -
Do your son's drum have a headphone out on them? I'd be inclined to try taking an 1/8" to 1/8" stereo cable from that to the Amplifi's aux in. If not, a small mixer like you mentioned above would work.

Wtf Is Going On With My Variax And Workbench?
phil_m replied to Geamala's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Could be a faulty VDI cable, USB cable or interface. I'd say the way to find out which one of those it is trying different combinations to try and pinpoint the problem piece. For you 1/4" cable going to the Axe FX, are you using a regular mono guitar cable (as opposed to a TRS cable)?
