  1. Same with some of the Variax guitar tones, and yes I know I can mess with it via workbench. I wish they would go back and redo the strat. Its ok, but there's just not enough "insert your word here" compared to many others I've played soundwise.
  2. Then I must have a bad Variax amsdenj. Not necessarily intended as negative because my Variax sounds "ok", but next to my 93 strat, Jem 7v or my 98 LP standard it just leaves me lacking tone and feel wise by comparison. Now, if you don't own those nice guitars (and don't care to either) and also need more functionality then yer right, nothing beats that combo.
  3. Actually Phil, the Axe III is an expansion of the Axe II FX XL+, which was an expansion of the Axe FX Ultra. The AX-8 was a nice but "cheaper version" of the set, kinda like the LT is for Helix. Grats Glide- I envy you!!!
  4. I understand 2.7 will have a tuner in the editor...
  5. Ya know the way I see this is if Line-6 would not make the firmware available thru anything but "Line 6 Updater", there wouldn't be any confusion factor here to mess with and you wouldn't be so tired. With how its setup now (new firmware available for download "twice" (with updater and a download) and its right next to HX Edit in the same DL section, Line 6 is creating all the confusion, not the user.
  6. Cru- "this really needs a title" is awesome bud. ; )
  7. just wondering, Is this the same way Helix works in a windows OS Phil?
  8. I broke down and bought Native when it was on sale, just because I could insert it into my DAW without any effort. That said, I most "always" turn on Helix hardware when I want to play.
  9. Dan, There are many many posts here about the ways to hookup and use a DT series amp with Helix. Best advice is to search L6-Link, DT amp, Helix and DT Amp, etc etc. You also need to look for software called DT Edit (I think its called). It lets you "clear out" the internal settings of the DT amp so that Helix is providing all of the tones/amp/cab/mic/reverbs etc. Lots of reading ahead for you my friend!
  10. Jim, I never understood this and I've played thru tons of amps over 4 decades, and I have a pair of 824's now. Meaning that "if I close my eyes and it sounds just wonderful and loud" (Headphones/Speakers/etc) no matter what I am using as a sound source", I don't really care about the SPL's rattling the bottoms of my jeans at this point and I don't think the crowd enjoying the music does either. A Mack truck has better SPL's going down the road than a Corvette does, but both of um will get ya to work. I just prefer the Vette... ; )

    Helix Update..

Not true. There is an outstanding 3rd party editor out and has been for a while here . Kemper may be, but the users now have a nice 3rd party one (see above). And yes, the KPA is/does "very" good with guitar amp tones. I own both and love both boxes. I would offhandedly say that Helix does best with Fender, while its very hard beat the KPA with any decade of Marshall tones. But both are good.

    Line 6 Helix

There used to be (still is I think) a 45 day return policy at Musicians Friend. Sweetwater also will work with you provided you purchased from them.

    Line 6 Helix

I have been there and know exactly what you wanted to do. That fact is lots of the killer tones on the KPA (and Helix) are just to die for. The KPA has a much better tuner, been updated with goodies and fixes and with the 3rd party editor now available from talented programmers/users it is really a nice setup and good competition to keep L6 from getting complacent. Best of both worlds, in my opinion, is to have both boxes, but that tends to rub the penny polishers crazy when I've suggested that in the past. They suggest you don't need that and should be satisfied with what they consider enough. I say, there isn't a music dictatorship or mandatory standard to adhere to, and "each to their own" in searching for the holy grail of tonal bliss. ; ) Good luck in your endeavors to find it!

    2.5 reverbs?

I'm not sure if the LCD in Helix can be reprogramed to allow "software" signal metering or not. Maybe in the editor? Hell if they are not going to add a tuner there then do this... And since the hardware availability isn't there on this version of Helix (I don't see any meters on the front not being used, do you?), I dunno if it will ever see those meters everyone (including me) wants until version 2. Which by the way I think will be announced in the next Winter Namm... ; )

    2.5 reverbs?

Satisfaction is great Zach, but it's not the same as having brute force dominance. I still like my reverbs better in the more powerful SHARC Processor Controlled one function (reverbs) Big Sky, but then it should be more powerful. All of that processor for just one fx. An example would be to Imagine having a Sharc processor for each and every single FX in Helix. You would then (all processors being equal) be able to state that Helix reverbs are as powerful, but (there is always a but) they have to share that power with the other effects as well. Now I will agree that brute force dominance means nothing audio wise if it just doesn't sound good. But then, the Big Sky has that too, in spades. In my opinion, most of the time the box that does just one thing well will always win. Helix has its tone. Big-Sky, the verbs. As always, YMMV even if you wish to be wrong ; )
  16. FYI- Not picking on you but next time you get a boot failure on "anything", don't wait 2 months to report it, it might be "just out of warranty" next time.
  17. Lots o work here- and "Thank Ye Kindly" for it too!
  18. For the most part, I still love my Helix Phil. And I do hope that you are right about getting this fixed, even if its just a little more than we have now. I don't have an issue with it not being as integrated as it was with the HD series Phil. What I had an issue with (and still do) is naming the port the same trademarked name (L6-Link) as the HD series had, and using the same kind of port hardware wise so it looked the same, and then not saying a "thing" about it not having the same capability midi control wise as the HD series until after multitudes of Helix units were already sold. I know you will never call that kind of thing a form of used car salesman bamboozlement Phil, but I hope you won't mind if I do, K?
  19. My view is I'm afraid is not going to happen for Helix. They've moved on to other things and this isn't on their back burners now. I know how much you wanted this as many of us did as well, and there are workarounds if you search for the old posts. But in the end, I sold my DT amp because of no support in-sight with Helix and it. It's a shame really, and rogue and misleading because it has what looks to be and is labeled the "same" port as the HD series has, but does NOT act the same midi control wise.

    What's next?

    Helix 2 by Christmas! >>gg
  21. No, it doesn't sound funny at all, esp if as I said the money for good monitors is tight. Working fine is a bit of a stretch but I know what you meant. The point I was trying to make is that every little thing you do "tone-wise" matters, and since the speaker your tone comes thru is the last and final thing you will use to create/carve/sculpt that perfect sound, then at some point everyone needs to invest in a quality FRFR (or speakers) that they prefer/like. Emoji here!
  22. I know money doesn't grow on trees, but remember that at least half of your tone comes from the speakers you use. And "usually" you get what you pay for tone wise.
  23. I'm assuming that in doing this, you have to send the broken unit in? And if so, then Line-6 then pays for the return shipping of the broken unit? Or do they get to keep the broken unit too? Either way, If that the case, then kudo's to Line-6. There, I said it. ; )
  24. Yes, I see yer point. Was being a wee bit facetious. OTOH we now mostly build items to sell, not to last forever or even work correctly sometimes (or last even much after the 1st 12 months). Please see above. ; ) All kidding aside, I do think if it goes on the floor to be stepped/stomped on, it should at least last as long as the warranty.
  25. Great you got it working rudomat. Please add a "solved" to the end of the OPENING topic- thanks.
