live cabs are tweaked for the DT amplifiers...A little BOSS GE-7 or the like is a good way to keep the patch tweaked for the PA and make a bit of correction for the amp/cab and the room...Anyway, I understand the purest approach of not wanting it, but it's pretty subtle and gets a bit of FIZZ out...At least that is how I remember it when I was gigging the 400.

Of course you can...just set the amp block to none, put in an FX Loop Block for your EVH and program the HD to send the correct CC to change the EVH to the red channel. You might need to make sure the EVH loop is serial...4CM will not work well with parallel loops.

I was on the beta and have used the HD Desktop with TRS to XLR connectors for over 8 years...I think the Quick Start Guide has a mistake in it...This has been brought up many many times...Not sure what to tell you bro other than I have been using it for over 8 years and the Line 6 Engineers told me directly that they were balanced when they gave it to me and I have been using it with adapters instead of DI boxes...good luck.

If you use the dual mode, you just have to live with the amp output getting the live cab (no mic) and the PA getting the full cab...The live cab is tuned for the DT amplifiers...No way around it in the 400. Not sure if you tube power amp has a presence control or not, but I found that to work pretty well when I used the Spider Valves with the HD400 in Dual Mode...basically get the highend right on the amp for the room...It worked pretty well for me...With the DT amps I really did not have the problem since I used the System Link, but the live cabs worked really well, better than running with no cab IMO...Good luck.

There is a reset procedure of sorts...Not totally sure as it might just be a safe mode for power up comms only...If I remember correctly, you hold the class switch down and the mode switch up while powering on...pinch them together...Pretty sure that's right...However, you should be able to change the NFL and save it. Might be that the default is off...Just not remembering this as it was a long time ago when I was deep in working this amp.

Low Impedance is actually really handy for Strats & Teles...Or any guitar that has a lot of ice pick in it...darkens it up some...It's basically a Low Pass Filter of sorts...It's useful in some cases...
-
Don't forget to park the Input Z setting at 10M....The default is AUTO and which will change the input impedance based on the first item in the chain...So when you have a Weeper wah first, it will suck the tone out just like the real Cry Baby does.

Dime all of the knobs on the HD400 and recall the patch...You might be getting some knob jitter which can cause things like that to happen...Common problem on Line 6 modelers since the beginning. Good Luck!

EVH has midi control, so you really are going to have to hook up midi and program some CCs on some buttons to get what you want going to get channel switching going in tandem with HD patch changes... Not sure if this is the right doc, but you need to look at the midi appendix in the HD manual the EVH doc to get it figured out. http://support.evhgear.com/schematics/MIDI Programming EVH® 5150III 50W Series.pdf

I would say, keep it simple as it is very easy to over analyze this stuff...Just plug it into the Marshall...It might be fine....Sounds like you are just running power amp in on your EVH...If that is the case, then perhaps try a different output mode...If a different one sounds better, stick with that...tinker with the global EQ a bit and jam...If it's just a jam, then I say keep it simple...or just take your head and use the cab there...

No...and well, the higher resolution models are in the Helix already...So I guess that makes them available in another way, but not freely...

I run my master at noon and hits the consoles with plenty of signal...most need the pad in for that...All depends on the actual patch level...If your chain level is really low, then yea more Master is better, but the signal to noise will not be as good as running the chain hot before the converter...All depends on what the post mixer FX blocks are as to the point the modelled clipping of a particular effect start becoming very apparent. btw, a direct box is not actually needed with the desktop. The main outputs are balanced. You can use a TRS->XLR adapter. DI is just logistically easier in most venues...

It could be that the amp has been changed...It is possible to change the NFL patches via midi...Might be a good idea to update the firmware and initialize it back to factory. You will need a midi interface to do it...UNO is a good one and is pretty cheap...If you have an audio interface already that has midi, that will usually work just as well.

I play in two bands at the moment. I play guitar in one and bass in the other. I use a POD HD Desktop (bean) as my rig for both and I run direct 99% of the time. I do have a DT50112 and DT25 head cab that I use for some shows on guitar...But even then I am taking the directs of the DT50s...Desktop is not really any different other than it does not have the MIC Level XLR outputs...just stick a direct box on it...no difference in the tones...In my guitar band the other guitarist uses an HD500X...We have compared them over the last 8 years or so...Nothing to worry about...You just need a shortboard to control it in a live situation...One advatage is that I never have to bend over to tweak my tones and my tone is safe in the backline...no power needed on the front of the stage either...I setup and tear down much faster then my counterpart does as he's a 4CM kinda guy sometimes...but direct most of the time with some extra pedals...I don't add anything else in live situations.

The mid focus can also work as that's just a bandpass filter and uses a bit less DSP than the Vintage PRE, but I use VP quite a bit in a lot of patches for the bandpass and the nice color it has.

There are many that got record worthy tones out of the POD XT, so yea, the tone is in there. If you are wanting a box where the model sounds good when you call up the amp model, you would be better off with a Helix than an HD...The modeling is the same, but the resolution of the Helix is much higher and Line 6 finally got the defaults into a better place than they were in the HD...You are going to have to work to get your tone in HD...Once you get under the box, it's not that hard, but it just depends on what you want to do...If you want better quality models and FX, go Helix and get the VST plugin also...Just my opinion.

There are a couple of things you could to to make that more efficient. 1. The 80Hz cut makes sense as that is just below the low E if you use standard tuning. You can run the HPF in the cab parameters up to around 80Hz and get more cut there at the source. 2. Seems like about 2 octave filter around 700 Hz with around a 3db boost or so might be similar on the global... Anyway, those are just a guess at a starting point. Best of luck...

POD HD500 owner but looking at pedals : DL4 FM4 any advice?
spaceatl replied to Blasterkid's topic in POD HD
I don't think it's necessarily redundant. The HD500 can run out of DSP very quickly. Especially if the tones you are trying to get need a Vintage PRE, Spring Reverb with a Dr Z FULL model...An outboard FX box can ease that by offloading the DSP so you can use the bigger FX in the HD500...One of the best options you can use with and HD500 is an M5. I have one of those and it is a great little utility FX box. Bascially, that box can do nearly any effect that is in the HD500 and is programmable with midi...Besides, an extra delay is always nice to have...Do you what you feel is right...No rules other than what works for you. -
Which Flextone = POD 2.0?
spaceatl replied to micschi's topic in Flextone I / II / III / Duoverb / HD147
That's the Flextone II... -
Like pianoguyy stated, you can use a "New Tone" patch. one thing you can do is move the cursor to the amp model and turn the bypass volume (channel volume knob) up a bit if you need a bit more level...You can also turn up the mixer levels to get a bit more output. That's about it...you will have your acoustic "sorta" like a DI..."Sorta", because the XLR outputs on the HD500X are MIC LEVEL. This will NOT be a line level ouput like a conventional direct box, so whatever you plug the POD into will need a mic pre...If you are using a conventional mixer, this should not be a problem.

Seems to be around -10 or -6...just depends on how small the room is...The trims on my speakers get really sensitive down that low...but it really helps the noise floor on the recording...

small rooms I will run my speaker levels down to about a 25% so that I can get a bit more level on the mains...It helps get the MainLR recording a bit more nominal.

Here's a vid...If your tubes are more than 2 years old and you use the amp often, most likely they are bad...Power tube generally will only last a couple of years...You should also change the 12AX7 inverter at the same time...
-
tubes would be my guess...or if you have an active guitar and the battery went dead...bad cable...hard to guess.
