We didn't stop until blind A/B tests could fool our own employees.
silverhead replied to CipherHost's topic in Helix
"This new amp is way better than my old amp 'cuz I can turn it up to 11 so that's, like, 1 more!" That's what the '% improvement' discussion reminds me of. -
You can only switch this setting using the app. You will find the global Model Controlled By parameter on the Variax page of the app. You cannot change this setting on the Firehawk device itself. This means you need to be careful about what state this parameter is in before you shut down the app, because the next time you turn on the Firehawk this setting is retained. If you left the setting on Variax, and do not bring your mobile device (with the app) to your next gig, all of the Variax settings you so carefully stored in the Firehawk presets will be ignored during your gig.

There is very little difference in the factory presets from the previous firmware to the current firmware; one setlist was added in the new firmware. Note that after updating the firmware you need to reset the global parameters to complete the installation. If you can then see a setlist named Variax you have the latest firmware. If you don't see the Variax setlist then you will benefit by reinstalling the latest firmware and answering 'No' when prompted to keep the existing presets.

Separating POD Farm 2 from UX1
silverhead replied to jhary's topic in POD Farm / POD Studio / TonePort
The Pod Farm license was included in your UX1 purchase (you didn't pay for it separately) and hence is tied to the UX1 hardware. If you want to use Pod Farm without the UX1 you will need to purchase a separate license for Pod Farm. -
What you think of the new Helix MultiFX processor?
silverhead replied to bartnettle1's topic in Helix
Based on Part 1, you have promised to post a video about your personal issues with Fractal and its owner every day for the rest of your life. Please don't give us daily updates in this forum. -
What you think of the new Helix MultiFX processor?
silverhead replied to bartnettle1's topic in Helix
Wow. That dude has serious mental health issues. The video is not a product comparison in any way. It's a 3 minute rant against Fractal in general and its owner in particular. I think Cliff would have grounds to sue for slander (or at least hire a bodyguard). -
I know that in another post you said that you had figured this out before a moderator could approve your first post, and requested that it be deleted. I didn't delete it because I am hoping that you might post again to describe your solution. It could be helpful to someone else later.

I don't think he's talking about latency. I think he means that the playback sound from the monitors is also being picked up by the mic when recording vocals, and he wants to eliminate the playback sound from the room to get only the vocal recording. In that situation I generally just turn down the volume of my powered monitors to zero while recording vocals. The headphones continue to play the backing tracks. If your monitors do not have a level control then you will need the additional hardware you describe. Edit: You don't need a full mixer - just something to control volume.

Sounds like you may need to switch Setlists. Press and hold the Setlists button then use the 4-way nav button to select one of the Setlists that is not named User.

Not sure what you mean. Can you explain what you would like to be able to do with this?

Well, the Axe FX II also has its limit. Of course, along with the price, the limit is high. And the design ensures that the user never sees the limit. It also ensures that there is unused DSP capacity in every preset. Let's wait until we see what it takes for Helix to reach its limit before judging whether it will be restrictive in practical terms. Helix will certainly permit more 'creativity' than the Pod HD series, and (I expect, again based on price) still less than the Axe. I'm sure Fractal hopes so.

Every device has a DSP limit. Most manufacturers design their devices in a constrained and limited fashion so that the DSP limit is never reached. Line 6 has designed the Helix to use dynamic DSP allocation like the HD500/Pro/Desktop devices. That means DSP allocation is in the users's control, not the designers'. The difference with Helix is that the device also actively monitors DSP usage and inhibits the selection of FX/Amp models that would exceed the limit. So instead of the message that you get with the HD series, Helix will simply grey out the unavaialbe selections. YOu will never see the message, but there could be times when you can't select certain options. Of course, with the static DSP allocation used by other manufacturers those selections wouldn't be available in the first place. For instance, in the POD HD300/400 series (using static DSP allocation) you never see the message. Nor do you have dual-path processing. Nor can you assign both a Comp and a Stomp FX in the same preset. And, strangely, the Spring Reverb FX is not in the Reverb category. All that said, the amount of available DSP in the Helix is more than twice that available in the most powerful Pod HD devices.

How can I get the quality of Pod HD headphones in my recording?
silverhead replied to sijan92's topic in POD HD
Also, make sure the output mode of your Hd500X is set to Studio. -
Support ticket or a phone call - your choice.

If you (or anyone) encounters the limitation of 10 devices, simply contact Line 6. They will take care of it.

The Helix device has a VDI connection and each Helix preset can store the same Variax controls/settings/tunings as the Pod HD.
-
Helix will store 1,024 presets (tunings?) organized into 8 sets of 128 presets, further organized into 32 banks of 4. Each of the 8 setlists has presets 1A through 32D. The model packs you just purchased will continue to work with the Pod HD devices. The Helix architecture does not support Pod HD modeling or presets so there will be no ability to load the Pod HD model packs into Helix. However, the set of amp models provided in Helix may well contain some of the amps from the new HD model packs. The initial list of Helix amps is provided in post #150 of this thread. As always, there is the possibility (not promise) that later firmware releases will add more amps.

True. Any user could create an 'empty' preset with all 8 FX slots and amp/cab in a preferred order, with the chosen FX turned OFF and the amp defaulted to No Amp. Then just copy the preset, fill it in with the specific FX selection in each block, turn them on as desired, and select your amp/cab. If you ever hit the message just select a less DSP-intensive model in one or more blocks. Something like: Vol -> Wah -> Stomp -> Comp -> Amp -> EQ -> Mod -> Del -> Reverb Goodbye DSP Nanny, no effort required by Line 6 and no need for any of us to wait for Line 6 to develop something we already have.
-
True - the HD500/Pro series have more powerful DSP processors so there would likely be sufficient capacity for one of each of Stomp, Comp, and EQ as well as the other selections if Line 6 chose to go that route. But it seems a little weird to me for Line 6 to consider going to extra effort to intentionally constrain the device just to avoid the current DSP message. After all, with the current firmware and device any user can assign all 8 of the FX mentioned above, as well as the amp/cab combo, while avoiding the DSP-intensive FX and never see the message. Essentially every Hd500/Pro owner already has that constrained device; we just have to make the appropriate FX selections.

Depends on currency exchange rates at the time. I know that product pricing here in Canada can change with a significant change in the $US exchange rate even as the price in $US remains stable. For instance, using the example provided above by the_bees_knees22 the Helix is being offered at $1,933 Cdn based on $1,499 US for the initial shipment. When musiciansfriend.com wants to reorder Helix inventory at some future date, the price from Line 6 could remain at $1,499 US but the price in $Cdn will not likely remain at $1,933. It will be higher or lower, reflecting the movement in the currency exchange rate between now and then.

Actually, the Pod HD300/400 do almost exactly that. The only difference from Digital Igloo's earlier description is that only one of Stomp/Comp/EQ can be selected. You can't have one of each.

I don't think the Firehawk has any MIDI capability via USB. The only thing the USB is used for in Firehawk is firmware updates and recording. The Firehawk app (editor) uses Bluetooth on mobile devices, not USB. It's not like the POD HD device editors which run on PCs and use midi-over-USB to communicate with the device. But I could be completely wrong here. It's just that I've not heard any mention of MIDI with Firehawk. Let us know if you find that the footswitches can trigger midi events in a DAW.

Anything left to do??? USB failed after latest firmware update....
silverhead replied to haller88's topic in POD HD
Can you actually see the four pins in the socket? You should not be able to - you should see a rectangular piece of plastic that is protecting the pins. If you are seeing the pins your USB port is broken and needs repair. There is nothing you will be able to do to reliably without repairing the port. It's likely that an internal chip has also been fried and will need repair. Take it to an authorized Line 6 service center.
