In my experience it handles overdrive perfectly. Way better that the HD500. I own a Lex Bos tube drive (which is absolutely killer) and on the HD it only sounded good in front of one or two amp models. It sounded absolutely crap in front of the Twin model for instance. On Helix, in front of the Twin it sounds wonderful. In fact it sounds great in front of all clean amps and many dirty ones. I think that would be the same with real amps

For the life of me I can't hear a difference! I am totally impressed! :o

Hmmm, that's not optimal. What if you don't have any space left in the upper path?

If You Transitioned from HD500 to Helix, Have You Noticed...?
talwilkins replied to DunedinDragon's topic in Helix
Yeah, I have pretty much the same experience. Dialed in my base tone by choosing the right amp and the rest was just adding effects and tweaking a bit for detail. Finding the right amp cost me the most time. After a while got a new idea for routing by looking at other's idea's. Changed my patches within a couple of minutes, sounded even better! I'm very satisfied and use much more of my time practicing and having fun playing. I had big difficulties finding really good tone with the HD500, took me over a Year to wrap my head around it. Even then I was alway looking to make it better, just never seemed to be good enough. I almost miss needing to fiddle around all the time! -
And again an nice shirt!!!! Also nice preset

We need Variax insurance

You have a point there. I still think you don't need insurance though. A longer guaranty would be nice though. Maybe selective for certain parts? -

OK, isn't that covered by the guaranty? Sounds like malfunction so it should be. -

What's your probleem? You feel Line6 needs to take care of your insurance needs? Why would they? It's not their problem if you drop it or have it stolen is it? Just go get an insurance yourself. I did. -
Great shirt! Can you do some Zappa presets?

Thanks! To be ouhnest, I think my new band wil sound better. Zappatika had a lot of issues I didn't like and couldn't be solved with the band leader having such a big ego. Check out www.absolutelyfrank.com and follow us on Facebook if you're interested. I put up a few snippets from the 7th rehearsal, curious to hear what you think. I'm playing through a Helix and DT25 (the solo on Zoot Allures). Would also love to hear what you think of my tone!

You like the pre amps better than the full amps?

Yes, I totally agree. Have you ever tried playing Frank's music? I played in Zappatika until last Year (clash of ego's). Now I just formed a new band called "Absolutely Frank" It'll take a while before we're ready to go on stage but it's so much fun and fulfilling to play his music. Mind you, we don't play the most complicated stuff, we'll leave that to people like Dweezil.

Moo-aaah! Great story! Do you go out to the desk directly or have the TS10s miced?
-
You certainly have some Vaibes going on there! Awesome work!

What exactly do you mean with Sweep at 40? Is that the min/max values of the expression pedal, with the max value at 40?
-
You can then turn off the cappacitive button function for live performance

Yes thank you, very creative use of the two monsters! I Just use L6 Line with everything turned off on the DT25. At the moment I'm using a Full amp with cab model and it sounds great. It's clear there are many different and very interesting options but that's nothing new with Line 6 gear B)

Probably my lack of basic understanding but could you please explain? You disable the DT XLR and then route it back into the Helix? What exactly do you route back to what in the Helix?
-
Ah, that makes kind of sense. Thanks! It would be a little less confusing if Line6 LINK wasn't mentioned behind the Digital output then) Still, thinking about it some more I'm still confused. You say Line 6 Link takes over when Helix sees a DT25. What does Line 6 take over? It doesn't take over my signal going to XLR, so how exactly does it work?

I have a strange problem. I made a preset as seen on the picture: The signal paths are as follows: Path 1A is a seperate path to be usaed for a microphone so I can put some effects on my voice. Path 1B is for guitar and continues to path 2A. Pathe 2A splits after the amp to path 2B with a Y-split. Path 2B Contains some post amp effects. I do this to have a signal without the delays going to the output as wel as a singnal with delays. This makes my guitar playing more articulate, not completely being delayed. Both 2A and 2B ar set to Digital output because I send to my DT25 through Line6 Link. The problem (bug?): If I change the output to something else I can't return to Digital. Somehow the digital output is not available, eventhough it's selected allready. Why is this? Am I doing something wrong? Is it a bug?

Question about VDI + 1/4 inch out
talwilkins replied to CipherHost's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
So why does the Variax manual say "6. Analog Output - Plug in a standard 1/4 inch guitar cable here"? Isn't a standard guitrar cable TS?
