  1. OP also asked about the "quality" of the user experience. With the nK2 in CC mode, the rotaries and sliders are very sensitive to the slightest movement. Not ideal, but usable. The sliders start at Channel 1 CC#0, and Helix available CC#s start at CC#4, so you'll need to customize the nK2 CC configuration. Also, the MUTE button sends a NOTE, not a CC.
  2. Not likely that L6 folks would know about specific devices from other vendors. Really, if you can get the MIDI messages to the stomp it works.
  3. The Stomp DOES have 5 pin IN and Out/Thru DINs. I guess this is what I get for having a stable system. Once upon a time the Korg Nano devices would not work without the Korg drivers. I wanted to make sure I wasn't giving bad info, so I deleted the Korg drivers (not easy!). Both my nanoKontrol and nanoKontrol2 defaulted to the 3/2019 Microsoft driver, and the Editor worked fine. So, I assume that the nanoKontrol(s) are "standard" MIDI - vs vendor specific like some BOSS/Roland devices - and should work with standalone MIDI HOST devices. However, since I don't own one, I can't test it, and won't guarantee that it will work. I would contact the mfr to confirm before purchase.
  4. If you're updating a Helix (vs a G10) download and install the HX Edit file, NOT the Updater. That file will install the Updater and all drivers. If you try to update without installing HX Edit, you might have problems.
  5. I think you missed the most important point I was making re: the nanoKontrol - it requires a hardware driver IN ADDITION to a USB driver. All the soldering in the world won't make a simple HOST device run a hardware driver.
  6. The L6 people who may know or at least have a clue about this stuff don't hang out here. You might try asking over at The Gear Page in the Digital and Modeling Forum where a number of pretty knowledgeable L6 folks check in when they aren't busy working on the updates we're all anxiously awaiting. You might also search here: https://line6.ideascale.com/ to see if it's (detailed explanations) already been requested and vote, or, if not already requested, post a request. I wonder - you seem to know what these things do in real amps, and you say that it SEEMS to be the same in the Helix amps, so maybe it is? Thanks, though, for answering the crucial existential question - "Who cares?" :-) ^^^^^^^^^^^ Don't get mad! I couldn't help myself!
  7. I can't explain the science, only how this works. If I connect the MIDI DIN OUT on my FCB1010 directly to the MIDI DIN IN on the stomp, all is well. Once you involve USB, you need a "HOST" in between. That's either a computer or a specialized HOST device. Simple USB HOST devices are available, BUT the Korg Nano series devices require a HARDWARE Driver IN ADDITION to a USB Driver. That rules out HOST devices as it requires a computer to run the hardware driver. Even then, you need to route the MIDI signal from the Nano to the Stomp as stated above. If you ever find a way to make a Nano control a Helix in some other way than I've described, PLEASE come back here and tell me about it. I've been doing this MIDI stuff for over 10 years and AFAIK, it is what it is, and this is it. FWIW - You MAY be able to establish a direct connection a la the FCB1010 (no hardware driver required) IF you can locate a Behringer BCR2000 or BCF 2000. These have MIDI DIN connectors as well as USB. However, they're relatively big and bulky compared to the Nano stuff. They are the only other dedicated Rotary/Slider controllers I know of that are out there. They pop up on eBay all the time.
  8. The Korg nanoKontrol (and nanoKontrol2) can only be used when attached to a computer. This is because they require a Korg (not Windows or Apple) MIDI driver. While attached to a computer you can route the nanoKontol's MIDI to the Stomp using either a MIDI Utility such as MIDIOX or through a DAW. I own both devices, and it would indeed be really cool to be able to attach one to a mic stand and control a Helix (any flavor) like a regular analog device. The original nanoKontrol would be even better than the nanoKontrol2, as the NINE sliders, 9 rotaries and 18 buttons can be assigned separate CCs in 4 separate banks, allowing the use of all 128 CCs (vs 40 on the nK2). Alas, it's not possible without being tethered to a laptop.
  9. You can send two MIDI commands on Preset Load or Snapshot Change, but you can't assign two MIDI Commands to a single footswitch.
  10. 4cm is for putting effects like overdrive, fuzz etc in front of your amp's preamp, and effects like delay and reverb after. You also have the OPTION of using the Helix preamps.
  11. Disadvantage: Additional latency due to added DACs; additional loop noise. Advantage: None that I can see. What would you be trying to accomplish by this?

    Helix 2.9

That's why he's SPIKEY, and thus his SPIKEY Avatar!
  13. There's no way that a DAW can change a setting in Helix. I'm not even sure that I'm understanding your actual problem. Try this - Install Reaper and work with that for a while. If you've still got the problem (that I couldn't duplicate), then there's something else going on. FWIW - I tried Cubase and hated everything about it.
  14. Open a support ticket, and send that recording. I had this problem, and it required returning the unit to L6, and they replaced some faulty components. No problem since.
  15. Press the PRESET knob. Scroll to a NEW PRESET. Press SAVE. In "Destination" (fifth knob, next to SAVE) scroll to the location of the faulty preset. Press SAVE.
  16. Sounds like a corrupt preset. Delete it (copy/paste over it with a "New Preset").
  17. In "Bypass/Controller Assign" make sure that "Volume Bypass" is assigned to "Exp Pedal Toe" and "Volume Position" is assigned to "Exp Pedal 2".
  18. Free DAWs: Cakewalk by Bandlab Reaper - unlimited trial, $60 when you're ready
  19. Thanks. I can't imagine ever needing robotic assistance for the simple stuff I do, but it is kinda cool, and a lot of big acts have had their roadies doing their effects from backstage for a long time. Makes hitting those Rock Star poses just right so much easier..... :-)
  20. I'm curious - Logic doesn't allow you to record the actual performance? I've never done it with Snapshots, but Reaper records Preset changes and Note info, so I'm pretty sure it would record the Snatshot CC info. Is Logic different where recording live MIDI is concerned?
  21. The Hotkeys Templates are meant for controlling DAW transport functions - Start, Stop, Record etc. Not what OP is after.
  22. Since I'm a PC guy I can't explain how to record MIDI in Logic, but this video might help:
  23. You need to record a MIDI track of your changes.Presets automatically send MIDI, but Snapshots only send MIDI if you assign the Snapshot MIDI (CC#69 Values 0-7) to an Instant Command in Command Center. If you're using more than one preset, you'd have to do it in all the presets you plan to use.
  24. These are the answers. I'll just add that you will never succeed in making any amp sound like "the real amp" because the Badonk is not a model of a real amp - it's a Line6 original. The Badonk IS the real amp.
