Still Confused On How To Manage My Licenses
BigChas52 replied to mau65's topic in POD Farm / POD Studio / TonePort
In that case, you only need to authorize the UX-2 on the computer, but not register the computer as an authorized device. I know it's a bit confusing, but making the computer an authorized device allows you to use POD Farm 2 without having the UX-2 attached. If you don't want to do that, don't waste a lifetime authorization. Sounds like you might want to open a support ticket to have your lifetime authorizations reset anyway. -
Cannot Register Pod Hd500 Extremely Angry! I Am Screwed
BigChas52 replied to westernfusion's topic in POD HD
Since you bought it new recently, it should still be under warranty. You should be able to take it in to your nearest Line 6 authorized repair center to get it fixed. Have you opened a support ticket? They should certainly be able to resolve this.- 38 replies

Make sure that you have the track muted when you record, and unmuted when you play it back :)
-
Have you made sure that the HD500 is set as your playback device in Reaper, and that you have unmuted the track for playback?

Hmm . . . brand new computer? Are you perhaps plugging into a USB 3.0 port? Strange, flaky things can happen when you plug a USB 2.0 device into a USB 3.0 port. Make sure you are plugging into a 2.0 port. I have several devices that look like they are connected when plugged into a 3.0 port but don't work correctly. My TonePort UX-2 was one of them :) 'Just sayin'

Pod Xt Live, Should I Use A Di Box To The Desk?
BigChas52 replied to Empyre's topic in POD 2.0, POD XT, Pocket POD, FloorPODs
When I used the XTL it was always left input into a DI box , and then XLR to the board. I used the right input into a local powered monitor as well. I did not use any stereo effects that would pan the sound, such as Ping-Pong delay. Before I got my DT25, I ran my HD500 direct to the board from the left XLR, and the right 1/4" to a local powered monitor. Again, no stereo effects. You'll still need to EQ at the PA, as the sound system, volume, and room acoustics will be very different from your headphones. -

Is My Ux2 Broken? I Think It Is.
BigChas52 replied to jmarzjunior's topic in POD Farm / POD Studio / TonePort
Before making the assumption that it is broken, I would first look for USB problems. USB is often the culprit for crackles. Here is a knowledgebase article that might help. http://line6.com/support/docs/DOC-1484 -
My question to you is whether you have actually purchased the iLok version. There is a separate iLok version that will ONLY work when your iLok is attached and the license has been deposited to your iLok account. The normal PC/Line 6 hardware version cannot use iLok for authorization.

In my opinion, the best way would be: Record via ASIO from the X3L. You would record the dry sends (sorry I don't remember which ones they are anymore). You might also want to record sends 1 & 2 (wet sends) as reference. Once you have the dry signal recorded, add PF 2.5 plug-in as an effect and manipulate the dry signal to your hearts content. You could also try monitoring via the PF 2.5 stand-alone program, and using the X3L as your input device. I'm not sure what the signal chain would look like getting the ASIO tracks to Cubase. I still like the fires option better.

Stand Alone Computer Recording
BigChas52 replied to nenic's topic in POD 2.0, POD XT, Pocket POD, FloorPODs
Hi nenic . . . Well, you don't need recording software, unless, of course, you want to record. :) It can be a bit daunting to start, but once you have the basics handled, the flow improves. A fairly simple, yet powerful, package to start with would be Reaper. You can get it at http://reaper.fm Reaper is fairly simple, has a 30 day "everything works" trial period (which actually doesn't expire), and is quite inexpensive to purchase. Make sure that you install the POD XT drivers so that you can use the ASIO protocol over USB for recording. Don't worry if you don't understand what I'm saying now. You'll catch on quick enough. Good luck, and welcome to the forum! -
Unless you are using the extreme stereo effects, like Ping-Pong delay, a stereo effect should not have any drastic affect on the sound coming out of the XLR's if everything before that is mono or panned center. I've used a single XLR into the board for years with good results. If you are feeding the same exact signal into both sides of a "stereo" effect, the results should still be mono, or close enough to it. The thing to avoid is effects that "shimmer" between L & R channels.

Since the POD Farm plug-in has the same amps and effects as the X3, you could tweak on the X3 live, and record the dry signal via the ASIO sends. I would also record the wet signal on a separate track as a reference, but leave it out of your final mix. Once you have it dialed in, make a note of your X3 settings and use the POD Farm plug-in to recreate them on the dry track. There may also be a way to use the X3 as an input device for the POD Farm 2 stand-alone program, but since it's been a while since I've owned an X3, I don't recall how to do that. The methodology there, would be to tweak in PF2 and save the settings. They could then be opened in the POD Farm 2 plug in. In either case, the POD Farm 2 plug-in is not for live play, or first takes. It is an effect to be added in post production.

Multi Stomps In One Preset
BigChas52 replied to gigid's topic in POD 2.0, POD XT, Pocket POD, FloorPODs
The Line 6 devices have always been able to use multiple effects, but not two of the same type in the same preset. For example, you couldn't use two distortions, or two delays in the same preset. This has changed with the POD HD series, and POD Farm 2. You can have multiple effects of the same type in the signal chain. -
Anyone Tried A Different String Gauge?!
BigChas52 replied to pugdealer's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
I haven't tried it myself, since I use 10's anyway, but I've heard that changing string gauges doesn't affect the modeling much, if at all. Usually it's folks wondering if they'll be OK with 9's. You should be just fine with 11's. As thorneven mentioned, you'll need to adjust the truss rod and intonation. -
Funny you mentioned that. I also recently bought the Eleven Rack/Pro Tools combo, but it was because I wanted Pro Tools. Getting the Eleven Rack for free sealed the deal. I still love my Line 6 gear, and since I cannot use my UX-2, POD HD, GuitarPort, TonePort DI Silver as interfaces for Pro Tools, I guess I'll need to use the Eleven Rack as my input device. All that said, I've been using my Line 6 "dream rig" live, on stage (I'm a regular worship team player) for about a year now. I love the versatility of my JT59 Variax, combined with my HD500, and DT25. Sorry, but the Eleven Rack, while sounding pretty good, doesn't come close to replacing my "dream rig" for live play.

The Kemper amp does look interesting, but at $2,000, compared to $500 for the HD500, the devices address very different market segments. I don't think Line 6 needs to be concerned until Kemper, or Axe-FX for that matter, start marketing gear in the under $1,000 range. With the much higher price point of both the Kemper and Axe-FX devices, I would hope that you could either coax great sounds out of them more easily, have a better range of tones or both. Personally, since I do not use my gear for paying gigs, I cannot justify the 4x price for marginally superior results. Good luck with the Kemper. I hope it serves you well. :)

Could be a problem with the amp, but sometimes an amp will not play nicely with the electricity in your house, or at a particular venue, thus resulting in hum or buzz. Sometimes an amp will not play nicely with another device on the same circuit that is causing electrical interference. Have you tried the ground-lift switch? Have you tried different outlets in different parts of your house? Have you tried it in another house or place?

If it's a newer computer, make sure that it is a USB 2 port, and not a USB 3 port. USB 1 or 2 devices sometimes work rather dodgy on USB 3 ports. I recently ran into this problem with my UX-2, as well as a few other devices. When I removed them from the USB3 ports and put them into USB 2 ports they began to work flawlessly.

Korean 59 Switch
BigChas52 replied to diggerbarnz's topic in James Tyler Variax Guitars / Workbench HD
Switch or contact cleaner is probably the best fix for this, but just about every guitar I've ever owned has had a noisy switch at one point or another. Another fix is to rapidly take the switch through it's positions until the crackle stops. This wears off the tarnish that is preventing proper contact. BTW, the same thing will happen from time to time with the volume and tone pots on guitars. The fix is the same, either carefully spray them with contact cleaner, or just roll them back and forth rapidly until the noise goes away. -
I like GHS Boomers - 10-46, especially on my Strat. That said, I've stayed with the D'Addario 10-46 for my JT-59.
