So it was exactly what I posted above then... 😉 You can unplug the cable, and it should be fine. Helix Native isn't the only plugin that does this.

I am 4 states away from my Helix, but I wonder if you guys moved path 1 down to path 2. (by way of copy & paste) keep path 2 at multi, then try to change path one input to digital s/pdif? Mainly just curious...

Select the input block, then turn the big selection wheel. You will then see a large selection of inputs to choose from. What you are looking for should be available. All other blocks usually have you choose a model before putting it down. The input blocks are already in place. You are not replacing them. Just select them, and cycle through them with the selection knob.

Audacity barely has ASIO support, if you want to call it that, as it doesn't come in the default install. Unless that has changed recently. I would recommend a different DAW if you plan on doing any more than dabbling. "Reaper" if you are short on currency would be a better option. DAWs like "FL Studio," "Ableton," or "Studio One" if you have the currency would be even better. You would direct monitor through the Helix, and use it as your soundcard. This is what I do with FL Studio.

DI, I am curious.. For those returning LT units for Helix Racks, or floor units to get the promotion for Native. Does it not mention in the requirements that they have to have the Helix registered to their account for no less than 180 days?!? So those getting a Helix now, registering it now, will have to wait 6 months before actually qualifying for the deal? Or was I just too damn sleepy when I was reading that part?!? EDIT: Perhaps I was tripping, because I can't seem to find that now.

It helps to list what your pc is, and what DAW you are using. As far as losing your project, don't jump the gun. I use FL Studio as my DAW, (I have tried many, and it is the best one for me) The company that makes FL Studio is Image Line. I know several people in predicaments like yourself that have had corrupted project files, or something in them that keeps them from progressing, or even opening the project. People, that are registered FL Studio users, have sent Image Line these project files, and most of the time Image Line is able to sort out the problem. Sometimes Even save the project, and get it back to the user in about the same way it was before they did something to screw it up. So find out who makes your DAW, and get on their support page, and contact them with your issue. As long as you are a paying customer, and have your DAW legally, then this might be an avenue you want to explore before giving up.

Are you turning off the network adapter, or unplugging the cable. Turning off the network adapter would give authentication issues with one of my other plugins. But disconnecting the cable did not give me any issues... Try that.

Too the boxiness issue above... The reason it sounds like that is because you have a phasing problem. This is evident because you still have a dry signal along with it. That will cause the phasing issue, which is in turn creating the boxy sound. The problem is with the routing you have set up in your DAW. Once you find out how to eliminate the dry signal, but keep the processed signal, that phasing (boxiness) will vanish. Any half-way decent DAW will have this option. You may just need to refer to the manual,or help index, of your DAW.

Exactly. Excellent platform for other things as well, such as gaming, or other editing.

Most modellers and respected VSTs will get you great results if your willing to try. The great things with Helix, and they really stand out: Are unified sharing of the system like all presets work across all versions including the plugin. Ease of use of actually dialing in a tone from scratch, the UI is phenomenal on board, and the editor. Makes for less time tweaking, and more making music. Routing capabilities compared to other modellers. These 3 things are quite a bit more significant compared to the minute differences they may have sonically.

Basically "freezing." This is something producers do to free up system resources, as mixing can get quite cpu intensive.

Looks like I will be $99 less here soon.

Hey, that would be great. I am not at my studio at the moment so I can't do it myself. However, perhaps this weekend I will conduct the experiment as well on my end, and we can maybe find a new alternative to taming frequencies within the Helix.
-
Right, I get that, but I was just wondering if the curves/steeps for the Hi/low cut EQ block, were the same as the ones in the cab. If they are not, then they can be used as an alternative after the cab before the rest of the FX chain as opposed to using the High cut in the cab block... (and because it takes too much high end off) have to bring it back with an EQ block after the cab anyway. Just a thought, and was wondering if anyone has actually tried it like this yet.
-
I Want to respond to this here. I think you are entirely correct. I have a tube Headphone amp. Where the speakers cover a much MUCH wider response than that of a guitar cab. That tube sizzle, hiss, ring whatever you want to describe it as, is much more apparent. Question is the High/Low cut EQ block the same steeps as the high/low cut in the cabinets? Or is this information not known?

Exactly! Let's not allow regression due to our impatience. It's barely a month late, they have said multiple times they are working hard on it. I suspect it will probably be by the end of the month.

Mark IV model loss of gain after extended playing session
Lachdanan0121 replied to s4n1ty's topic in Helix
Glad to see some real troubleshooting going on here!!! This will in turn help L6 nail down the problem faster, reach a solution faster, and allows them a little more time in giving us new features. -
@spikey That very closely resembles the velocity response curve in quite a few DAWs for things like midi keyboards. Including my own in FLS. This would be a very nice feature to have with the Helix at some point. :) I know the Helix platform is still kinda new, but they are seriously building something great with it. Look at how far Helix has expanded since its launch. It has many amps/fx added since launch, and snapshots. A new minimal form version at a lower price. AND a dedicated plugin coming soon. In a few years I think the Helix will not only have a lot of the features that we want that the competition may have in some form, but I think also some new things as well. The ability to have all of it seamlessly share presets between all Helix versions is a great step towards that.

How to Respond When The Bass Player Doesn't Like Your Helix
Lachdanan0121 replied to talonmm's topic in Helix
Devin Townsend uses Fractal live, I saw him with it last year on tour. What I didn't see were many amps. 3 bands played at that show, and I only saw 2 traditional guitar rigs (amp and all) They were mainly for the opening act. Devin only had the Fractal, and the Kemper at the show I saw, but that was when the Helix just came out. Now I read that Devin is actually using Helix along side his Fractal, and Kemper... Studio, and touring! AND he is quite a respected musician in the metal scene. To the OP, as long as there is adequate ways of monitoring everyone, and you all can hear it.... then to hell with your bassist's outdated perception, and preferences. The only real point your bassist made in that entire email was the concern that everyone in the band could be monitored efficiently. By the way, that can be done much easier if his lollipop goes direct too! Everything else he was going on about was rooted in nonsense. Its always hard beating your head against the wall trying to convince traditionalists anything other than their out-dated view. I suspect this is the root of the problem here! -
I think there are already a few ideas on the regarding the split/merge requests. I have voted on them. I am not even sure if I created the idea, or just voted on it, as I have created a couple on there. Signal metering, and clip indicators as well.
-
Well I would like the mono reverbs for each of the left & right rhythm guitars. Then use Stereo reverbs for the cleans, and leads. I am only a studio musician, but this still has its uses in the recording world. Plus it would give a slight more headroom for the signal chain.
-
Although I stay clear of P&W... I still might be able to help. For your active pu guitar try going in thru the Aux input. Also experiment with volume blocks at the beginning of your signal chain. Also try the guitar input pad if things are too hot. Your Strat may have a short in it, and it may need more juice upfront. Try killing the Noise gate on the input block, use a gain block then put a noise gate block after the gain block. Your strat my be cutting in and out due to the noise gate.

Hmm, I may have to try that usb Audioquest jitterbug at some point.

Helix defaults to 48khz. Not 44.1khz. If it happens with YouTube it is more than likely not your DAW settings. If you have a decent rig with decent buffer settings 512 should be plenty. I have had this happen. My rig is pretty beefy as well. It is why I am hoping for some new usb drivers for pc with the helix which make it more stable. I fix the issue by refreshing the drivers. I open my DAW, change driver to "FL-ASIO" then back to the helix drivers. Asio4all will also work as a driver to temp switch to, and most DAWs support it. This forces a refresh of drivers. I get in the habit of doing it every time I open FLS. This of course a work around, and more stable drivers are definitely welcome, and preferred.
