When you install the Edit program make sure to also install the most recent versions of the driver and the Line 6 Updater program. Then run the Line 6 Updater program with your Helix connected via usb. Carefully follow the instructions!!

Sure. The G10 is compatible with any system/amp that accepts a guitar input, and the Firehawk is designed to accept a guitar input.

There is a keyboard shortcut to assign a snapshot controller.http://line6.com/support/topic/25360-snapshot-parameter-change-in-edit-program/

Are you sure you are using compatible versions (generally but not always the same version number) of the Helix firmware and app? Perhaps you need to double-click on the patch number in the editor to make it the 'active' patch?
-
No. Snapshots are not transferable among presets because no two presets are absolutely identical in overall structure (which includes a lot more than just block selection) unless one is a direct copy of the other- and that's what Snapshots require. To do what you want you need to completely define the first preset, copy it to another slot, and then edit the snapshots in the copied preset.
-
Why? He's already stated that it's not identical. You've already decided that Helix can't do it. You're not going to be satisfied no matter what gets posted. And even if you are satisfied you're not going to be able to reproduce it using your equipment for reasons that were discussed at length in your other thread. How about this: you win. Helix can't produce this tone to your satisfaction. Happy now? Let's all go home now.

The 'push and turn' technique is just a shortcut. There's a similar shortcut using the computer keyboard in the Helix app - it I don't recall what it is. The 'long cut' in both cases is to assign the parameter to a controller. In the Helix app, select the Controllers page, select the parameter, and assign it to the Snapshot controller (from the menu items list).

I posted my experience on this here: http://line6.com/support/topic/25157-using-the-hd500x-for-vocal-effects-processingenhancement/ While it talks about the POD HD my comments also apply to Helix. The situation in Helix would be a slight improvement because you can Copy Block between presets in Helix, which you can't do on the POD. Still it gets cumbersome as soon as you have more than a few presets in which you want to keep the vocal processing the same while changing the guitar processing. You're fine until you decide you want to tweak the 'constant' vocal.

Recommendations and suggestions?
silverhead replied to silverhead's topic in XD-V Digital Wireless Microphones
Thanks Sheriton. Good useful suggestions. I'll definitely get someone knowledgeable to help with the initial setup. Glad to hear that the XD-AD8 works well. -
The XLR outputs from the HD do not sum to mono. Each one sends half the stereo spectrum, the L or R accordingly. If you want a stereo output with a single lead you need to use the 1/4" L output from the HD - that's the one labeled L/MONO.

The M20d has no FX Loop. You could place the BBe pedal before the M20d - connect the input signal to the BBe first and then the BBe output into an M20d input channel. In this case the BBe signal processing would come before any M20d channel processing. Alternatively it might be possible to get the BBe pedal into play by routing a monitor output into the pedal and then back into a channel input. In this case the BBe signal processing would come after all M20d channel processing. Suppose the signal you want to route through the BBe pedal is the input to M20d Channel X. Setup a monitor, say Monitor D, and assign Chanel X and no other channel to the Monitor. Connect a cable from Monitor D output to the BBe input, and its output to an M20d unused input, say Channel Y. Unfortunately you will still hear the 'dry' signal from Channel X in the Mains output - you can't mute Channel X or else its signal will never reach the BBe. Caution: I've never tried this but it might work OK, although there may be some level mismatch. The Monitor Output level might not be what the BBe is expecting for an input signal.

I am working with a 9-piece band who are looking at moving to a wireless system for their 5 vocalists. They're looking at all available products but I want to make sure they have a good understanding of the Line 6 option. Challenge for me is ..... I am a complete newbie with wireless audio. I am hoping to get some advice, guidance and recommendations from this fine community. I have done some research and am leaning towards the XD-V55 system with the handheld mics. I would opt for the rackmount systems and also go with the XD-AD8 Antenna Distribution System. I would house it all in a standard 4U (I think?) rackmount carrying case for security and ease of transport/setup. Here are some basic questions as a starting point. - do you think the XD-V55 is a good choice or would you recommend, say, the XD-V35 (non rack mountable)? - is the rackmount route advisable? Do I need the XD-AD8 or is it feasible to have 5 desktop XD-V55/35 systems - if I go with the XD-V55 desktop systems, what about ergonomics and table space? Do they stack? Do the 5 sets of rabbit ears become a problem? - I will be connecting these systems to my StageScape M20d mixer and using the iPAD remote app. This involves a local Wi-Fi connection at the mixer. Will I need to locate the vocal wireless system some distance away from the mixer to avoid RF interference? Any other important considerations I'm missing? Any and all comments are welcome. Thanks!

I use a PC and Windows so maybe this isn't relevant to Mac but..... There's a USB setting in Windows that controls when/whether a USB port goes into sleep mode, and what will wake it up. I've heard of similar situations where the communication between computer and usb-connected device is lost until the computer is restarted. The fact that the Helix tuner was responding is a good sign, meaning the device did not completely crash. How are you monitoring the sound? While the problem was evident, were your monitors (speakers/headphones) connected to Helix or your computer?

The old Pod X3 had a feature called 'Lock Tone 2'. The X3 is a Dual Tone (path) processor with the Tones being completely independent - you could not route the output of Tone 1 to the Input of Tone 2. By contrast, in Helix you can route Path 1 output to Path 2 input and in the POD HD you can split paths. In both Helix and HD the dual-path routing can be different between presets. This different architecture explains why it was relatively straightforward to lock a Tone in the X3 - you simply didn't reload one of the static Tone paths during a preset switch.
-
Hmmm..... I don't know if that is the expected behaviour or not. I would open a support ticket to clarify.

Make sure the Alt Tuning knob on your Variax is set to Model, not Standard, and that the Helix preset for alt tunings is set to Don't Force (not set to Custom).
-
The 2nd method is best for you purposes I think. And yes, you can use HD Edit as described but you may have to revisit the Reaper settings and force it to use the audio interface. When the POD is connected via USB it typically overrides other audio settings by default and sets itself as the audio interface. The 1st method has a problem: When using the POD as the audio interface you should also use its ASIO driver. The ASIO protocol demands that a single device be used as both the audio input and output device. You can't define the POD to be the input device and another audio interface as the output device unless you use some other driver for the POD - in which case it is an unsupported configuration and may not work properly.

Line 6 has stated that this bug will be fixed in the next firmware release which was announced at NAMM and should be here in February. Meantime, don't discard those v2.12 presets. I think they still carry the Variax model information in the snapshots - it just isn't being properly recognized. Even better, keep the 2.11 presets which definitely have the information.
-
We might be pleasantly surprised on this. It's possible that Helix Native has been designed from the outset to use the existing Variax Workbench interface device for Variax support. If not, the software technology to do so already exists in the Workbench HD product. I doubt that a new stand-alone Variax interface product is required - every Variax owner already has the Workbench interface. Just to be clear - I have absolutely no 'inside knowledge' about this. I am just observing that the technology and a suitable device already exist.
-
Actually, no. The behaviour jbuhala describes is controlled by the Snapshot Recall (Save?) or Discard parameter. The behaviour mentioned in the OP relates to the screen display when you place the device in Snapshot mode by holding down the Up/Down buttons simultaneously. If you set this parameter to Auto Return, the display will show the available snapshots with their lights blinking and as soon as you select one the display will revert to its previous state (mode). For instance, if you were in 4-preset/4-FS mode when you activated the snapshot blinking display, it will revert back to that mode - not, say, 8 Presets mode.

Comparisons can't be done yet but I'm sure they will be as soon as the plug-in becomes available. I used to own a Pod X3 Live, which was claimed to be sonically identical to the then-current Pod Farm plug-in. The presets were transferable. I remember testing the hardware version of the presets against the DAW/plug-in version, using the X3 Live as the audio interface. They sounded identical to me, just as advertised. I expect this to carry forward to the Helix hardware and plug-in, but the proof will be in the pudding as they say.

Yes, the Master volume will affect the volume level of all presets. No it does not need to (and cannot) be saved. Try increasing your individual preset volume levels while maintaining their relative levels to each other (a manual and time consuming task but necessary if you have never done it), then decreasing your Master volume level until the fuzziness disappears, and increasing the HD500X channel level on your board as required to balance with the level of your other guitarist.

The looper can't be synced. It has no concept of tempo or beats. It strictly records the sound between the trigger on/off moments.

You can use any USB cable that fits.
