  1. From what I've read the Helix switching circuit is using a transistor in open collector configuration. This means it is not isolated from the amp it tries to switch and ground loops are possible - the loud hum indicates that this is the case. So you'll need to find another method to switch channels.
  2. For an old school rocker like me: Lower mids are what the guitar actually needs to fill in a trio. Conspire with the bass player to create a wall of sound together. This means talking and exploring together what a band should sound like. I'd focus on the core amp sound. It should be a great crunch sound on guitar vol 5, overdrive on 7 and lead on 8-10, and edge of breakup on 3. Alternatively shift one gear back (overdrive on 9, clean-ish below 4) and rely on an OD for lead. If a simple chord with rolled back guitar vol sounds great without FX in context with the bass - rich with good sustain - then the next step is not to collide with the singer too much (treble vs presence trait off). And for me the cab should have a o-vowel-ish sound meaning it should sit more on the lower mids and not too much on bass. At this point you should be able to play a whole show with just that one sound and make people happy. If that is done add bells and whistles, make stuff interesting and colorful.
  3. To rant a little more this is the landing page for the European Line 6 authorized service center: Unreadable - didn't change in at least the last year.
  4. Distortion blocks work fine as usual in 3.5.

    I did it!

Congrats! This promo might be of interest: Buy a Helix or HX Amp and Effects Processor and Get Cubase LE 12, the Helix Native Plugin, and the Metallurgy Collection of Plugins Free
  6. I have a Laney AOR Series 30. It has more options but it can sound VERY close to the Brit 2204. The treble pot is different - 3 on the Brit is about 6 on the Laney. And the Laney seems to have more sag. The Brit 2204 is a 70s Marshall (not the 800 series) and Laney seems to have ripped this version of and put more features on it. The Laney's pulled volume cleaner side sound close to the Brit J45 btw.
  7. Try the US Deluxe preamps into the power amp. A bass 3, mids 4, treble 3 setting should simulate a 5/5/5 setting on the DeVille for cleans. Norm = no bright / Vib = bright.
  8. @DJ5D I took the challenge and this DualCab is my take on getting something close to "your" IR: Moo)))n T75 57Dyn, center, 2.00", 45°, LC 80Hz, HC 12kHz, +0.5dB, center, 0.0ms Moo)))n T75 4038Rib, 4.5, 2.50", 0°, LC 80Hz, HC off, -0.5dB, center, 0.06ms I struggled quite a bit and it's certainly not 100% the same, but at least in the ballpark imho.
  9. If you don't want phase artifacts use zero delay on both cabs in the dual cab block.
  10. Dual Cali V30 with 421 Dyn + 160 Ribn can do the trick, too.
  11. Bug: Vitriol Crunch model, when the pre-gain is set up over 7, it suddenly loses all definition and becomes like a bloated fuzz pedal disguised as an amp model. Discussed in this thread. Here I play the exact same chugga and scan the pre gain from 6 to 10 and back to 6:
  12. I can confirm the OP's observations and think it is a bug, too. It gets weirdly out of control with pre gain past 7. A bit like a compressor with a too long release time. But with lower pre gain (and a boost like i.e. a volume block in front) it can get enough gain for me and is a usable and very cool sounding model.
  13. There is no such thing as "sending messages per MIDI learn". MIDI learn is a feature of a receiving device to simplify the setup by recognizing a message and automatically set the parameters accordingly. The L6 FX can send any PC or CC message.
  14. Full amp sims with solid state / classD amps for me. If I'd use preamps I'd add an impedance curve'ish eq. Here is how and why.
  15. That noise does not indicate a defective unit and sounds like normal behavior of the Helix. IMHO
  16. An overdriven amp's input stage is very susceptable to added noise, because it's - well - heavily amplifying the input signal. I think the OP is primarily about that. The question is: (How) can the noise floor be reduced on the outputs/sends?
  17. I would set Send/Return levels to Inst to get the same level as if I plug directly into the amp. This way the noise floor is the lowest, too. Try some Helix overdrive pedals and lower amp gain. boosting treble with a Shelving EQ (2500Hz maybe?) before the amp and reduce treble on the amp. a Horizon Gate after the attenuator .
  18. No. Global eq maybe? Or a closed tone pot on the guitar?
  19. In 3.15 I still find the Das Benzin level (both channels) too low. I use it with master at 2, because it looses clarity / high end and 'Diezelness' with higher values.

    Ventoux!!!

Cabs with pronounced upper midrange in general: Alnicos and Celestion H speakers... I.e: Jensen P12Q / C12Q Celestion G12H30 / G12H75 JBL D120
  21. I use a parametric eq to do that: Parametric: LoFreq 20Hz LowQ 0.1 LoGain +6dB MdFreq 2.1kHz MidQ 1.4 MdGain +5.5dB HiFreq 3.7kHz High Q 1.0 HiFain -6.0dB Level +3.0dB The HiFreq is at 3.7kHz because that's my Strat bridge pickup's resonance frequency (found by ear). Humbucker resonance frequencies are typically around 2kHz. Use MdFreq to adjust to taste. The LoFreq with low Q=0.1 (very wide) adds fatness and the level adds gain. Try it and report back it it does the trick for you!
  22. Make sure your fx loop is serial and not parallel.

    IRs Doubt

BTW: If you happen to have the exact same IR on your device already then the downloaded patch will automatically find the right IR slot. This is possible because every IR has a unique fingerprint (hash value) which is (secretly) stored in the patch.
