The Spider IV is worlds better than the III in modeling and FX, but don't upgrade just for the Looper! Only you can answer the question regarding going to a Valve amp. It's all about getting the sound(s) you want.

Speaker Cable Polarity + Software Question + Fuzz!
fflbrgst replied to HellMek's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
it doesn't make any difference which lead is connected to which connector on the speaker, as you only have 1 speaker, there is no issue of phase. On your 'clone' question - adjust the sound you want and save to a new name.- 1 reply

How To Re-set Spider Iv 30 Presets?
fflbrgst replied to aschmidt21's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
Sounds like the compression is on and cranked to boost volume way up - when you switch patches, you're not playing, only line noise coming through so it gets boosted. You can turn the compression down (or off) and/or adjust the noise gate.- 5 replies

Best Amp Settings For Good Sound While Playing Quietly
fflbrgst replied to aschmidt21's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
As I mentioned in the other thread where you asked the same thing, there are no set answers. Generally, I would try with guitar volume up most of the way, master volume down, and channel volume, gain and tone adjusted to get the sound you want. -
You can save your altered settings to the 4 preset locations, including any channel volume change you have made. If you are using a guitar with single coil pickups, and have the compression setting dialed up, the noise will be noticeable until you hit a string. You can adjust the compression settings and turn on the noise gate and adjust that to combat noise.

Master Volume Or Channel Volume?
fflbrgst replied to senanimach9's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
There's no set answer to your questions. Some guitar's pickups don't sound good at less than full volume, others are fine, so you have to find the volume/sound you want by experimenting. Same holds for tone. As to the noise when switching presets, that's a new one on me, but may be due to the loud channel volume setting on each preset. Are you using a guitar with single coil pickups? (Strat, Tele, etc) These can be noisier than a dual-coil (humbucking) pickup. -
I may be wrong, but I don't think the Looper is included on the Spider 3 - this was a new feature on the Spider 4 models. Have to say that it is more a gimmick than a useful tool, because it has limited memory (time) and changes sound/volume based on the preset patch or manual setting you use on the amp. What is needed (maybe on the next generation Spider 5) is an effects loop so you can plug an external looper into the soundchain after the preamp.

Flash Memory Update File Fails To Open
fflbrgst replied to BTHellhound's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
Sorry to hear that, guess you should contact Line 6 Tech Support 818-575-3600 (option 3) M-F 8am-5pm PST -
I'm at work so can't watch/listen to the video now, but it sounds like you have done all the checks needed to make sure it is the amp itself that is the problem. Ok, next step: do a factory reset. Unfortunately, this will remove any custom tone patches you have saved (if you have saved any yet). You can back these up, but that is through the computer connection, which we'll address next. Spider Edit is the software used to save your patches. Push and hold the 'A' preset button while turning on the amp and hold for 5-8 seconds. This will perform a factory reset. Try it out. If the problem noise is still there, next step is to update the firmware. This will not affect the amp in any bad way, and will not void the 30 day return policy of the store. First you need to update the firmware on the FBV Shortboard. 1) Go to Line6.com, sign in to your account and go to 'Downloads' Under Free Software Downloads select Line 6 Monkey and your computer OS. Follow instructions to download and install Monkey. 2) Use your USB cable to connect your FBV Shortboard to your computer (do not plug the amp into the FBV at this time). Start up Monkey. Hopefully it will recognize the Shortboard and and then you can have it check and install updated firmware, if needed. Once done, turn off Monkey. 4) Plug your amp into the FBV Shortboard with the supplied CAT5 cable. 5) Load up Monkey, it should now recognize both the FBV and the amp. Have it check the firmware for the amp and update. Once done, turn off Monkey, then unplug the USB cable. 6) Turn off the amp, then turn it on again. Try it out. If the noise is still there, unplug everything and head back to the store for replacement!

Flash Memory Update File Fails To Open
fflbrgst replied to BTHellhound's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
Try uninstalling Monkey from your computer, then reinstalling. If that doesn't work, you may need to uninstall all Line 6 software (and delete the folders and files, too) and reinstall everything. Yeah, a major PITA, but the software is glitchy that way. -

Getting A Good Sound For Distortion
fflbrgst replied to Ritual_ZnAkE's topic in POD Farm / POD Studio / TonePort
When recording electric guitar with distortion, 'less is more' - in other words, turn the gain/fuzz down. You say 'it doesn't sound clean with the distortion' - I hope not! I assume you mean it doesn't sound how you want it. You will need to experiment with the gain and distortion settings to find exactly what you want. -
Which speaker cabinet do you have?- there are 3 different models. The HD150 is there in the drop-down menu under "Line 6 Amp Cover" in the right hand column..

Jtv's Vdi Connector For Spider Iv 15?
fflbrgst replied to fredfunke's topic in Spider IV / Spider Online
TheRealZap is correct - only the Spider 75 and above can connect to your computer via the FBM MkII controller. The Spider 15 and 30 do not have this function. -
The Line 6 amp covers are not padded, they are simple vinyl covers that fit well, but that's it - but they do offer padded covers for the speaker cabinets. Here's the page that lists them all: https://www.globalfulfillment.net/gfsnet/line6/10Browse.aspx?cid=170 Use the drop-down menu for the Spider IV HD150 cover.

Podfarm Plug-in "next" Poll
fflbrgst replied to BigChas52's topic in POD Farm / POD Studio / TonePort
I use Reaper! :) -
In Win7 there is a possible issue (I have read about this in forums from others using a Tascam interface like I have) when the interface is being used for all sounds, (not when recording) in that all internet sounds get routed to a buffer, which eventually fills up, cutting out the sound until the computer is rebooted (which empties the buffer). Sounds like it may be the same problem.

That must be the one, forgot to check my amp last night for the listing.
-
I've had lots of comments about the intro to the song 'The Beast Within' - this was done with one of the presets that came with the amp, but I don't remember the name now, it's something like "Za-Pa-Pah-Ti", using my Squier J-bass. Unbelievably (or maybe not), Line 6 no longer has a list of the factory presets here on their web site! The FAQs tell you to find it in the User Manual, but the list is not and has not ever been there. The links I found from previous inquiries are broken and a list of presets I found at an outside site were not correct. Good job Line 6!! Just like starting to charge money for tech help for your older 'legacy' products - this is telling the consumer that, basically, Line 6 does not stand behind their (older) products and that any Line 6 products we have now that are replaced with new models will not be supported either at some point. Does not inspire a lot of confidence in the company.

I Cant Hear My Guitar While Recording
fflbrgst replied to fiend4life2321's topic in Computer Audio Setup and Troubleshooting
Are you plugging into the same inputs on the M Audio device? (which one is it?) You say you can hear the guitar - do you have headphones plugged into the M Audio? I assume that in Kristal you have to select the input device, make sure you have the correct M Audio channel selected. -
I Can't Install Podfarm On My Second Computer
fflbrgst replied to noise222's topic in POD Farm / POD Studio / TonePort
Hook up the computer to the internet to install PodFarm, once everything is set, unplug from the net! -
Interesting, but no 'scientific' explanation. Sounds like you had a bad cable connection on your guitar. Always try another guitar and cable first. Ten try a factory reset on the amp.

Low Input Volume/gain On Shure Sm57 + Ux1
fflbrgst replied to nicky872's topic in Computer Audio Setup and Troubleshooting
Looks like at 6 gain with boost for vocal, 7 gain plus boost for guitar, you have acceptable recordinglevel, but the noise is high. For vocals you could get closer to the mic than 10cm, but will get some proximity effect. I can't comment on the M Audio preamp, no experience with it. There are any number of inexpensive audio interfaces with very good preamps - M- Audio, Tascam, Steinberg, Presonus.
