  1. Hi, Firstly - This is a peer to peer user forum. There are no Line 6 staff here and only very occasionally do they visit these forums - (See the “sticky comment” in the black banner stripe at the top of this page entitled “Welcome to the Line 6 forums”). The HX Effects 3.0 Owner's Manual - Page 15 - Customizing a Footswitch https://line6.com/data/6/0a00050e070d666767d27e720/application/pdf/HX Effects 3.0 Owner's Manual - English .pdf Hope this helps/makes sense.
  2. Hi, From the HX Stomp XL Owner’s Manual - pages 58-59 FS7 Function - Sets the function of Footswitch 7, but only when Global Settings > Preferences > “EXP/FS Tip” is set to “FS7.”* FS8 Function - Sets the function of Footswitch 8, but only when Global Settings > Preferences > “EXP/FS Ring” is set to “FS8.* *For connecting an external footswitch to access the FS7 or FS8 functions, the use of a momentary (unlatched) type footswitch is recommended. Connect to the EXP1/2, FS 7/8 input while the device is powered off to avoid toggling the current FS 7/8 setting. Mission Helix Expression Pedal By default, the HX Stomp XL EXP 1/2 | FS7/8 jack is set up to accommodate the Mission Helix expression pedal, connected via an optional Y cable (sometimes called a TRS insert cable). The main advantage of this setup is that pressing the integrated toe switch will not only toggle the pedal’s function between EXP 1 (Wah/Pitch Wham/Poly- Wham/PolyBass Wham) and EXP 2 (Volume Pedal/Pan), but it will also toggle the appropriate blocks on and off. 3. Hi, Lots of people comment that they feel the DI signal level is too low, see these links:- and this, I have been using my Helix with Logic Pro X since late 2015 using USB 7 (and/or USB 8) for the DI signal without any real issues, and as noted by @lou-kash in the post above, you can always add a gain block on the input channel, or normalise the audio after recording. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  4. No mystery - HX Edit is a dedicated piece of software specifically designed with that function. The clue is in the name. I mentioned previously about the limitations of MIDI and SysEx - see the comment in this thread from Digital Igloo (the man who really knows). Hope this helps/makes sense.
  5. Hi, A Factory Reset is recommended to clear any possible glitches, or corrupted presets in your unit. This is best performed when you have already created a full backup of all your presets, setlists etc. You do make regular backups of your stuff don’t you? If you do then you should already have a recent “fail safe” copy on your PC. If you do not have a recent backup you can still revert your HX Edit to the version you had been using previously. If the earlier version is still not able to make a backup, you should still be able to export a bundle, setlists and presets as you would do for normal saving of presets. The slightly more long winded way is to drag and drop all your presets into a folder, or folders, on your computer. Once you know your presets are “safe”, perform a Factory Reset on your device, and proceed with the update to v.3.71. Because you are dealing with a computer and they can be notoriously temperamental. It’s not just “why now?” It can happen anytime. Nope! Lot’s of happy users out here in Helix-land. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  6. HI, The MIDI Implementation on HX products is fairly basic, AFAIK it was never designed to handle SysEx. He is a link to - The "Unofficial" Helix MIDI Guide. It's quite old now, but I don't think much has changed in how the Helix handles MIDI since the document was compiled. It was originally created by "Stoopalini" and posted over on TGP back in 2018. https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/the-unofficial-helix-midi-guide.1954544/ Helix Help also has this MIDI info. https://helixhelp.com/tips-and-guides/universal/midi If it's not listed in either of these resource documents, then it probably doesn't exist. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  7. Hi, When seeking assistance from Forum users it's a really good idea to supply as much information as possible regarding the computer and operating system you are using. Also, the OP in this thread mentions certain Marketplace Products - you didn’t indicate if this is relevant in your situation? If not, did you try the possible solution provided by @HonestOpinion in the post above? Try with more information, rather than a generic “me too”. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  8. Hi, You might want to read this post regarding “lead boost” settings Hope this helps/makes sense.
  9. Hi, Just a general FYI, I have my Helix floor hooked up to Logic via USB, in fact all the Mac audio passes through the Helix to my monitors. It has been this way since I acquired the Helix back in late 2015, and it us used almost daily. I can say definitively that I have never encountered what your buddy described. I have just locked up the studio for the night, so I’m not able to try to figure out what might be triggering the “mute”. It could be beneficial to know exactly what he means by “mute”? Is he referring to the “mute” button on the Logic channel strip, or “mute” meaning no audio at all out of his HX unit? If he is using MIDI out from the HX then it could be the culprit. Tell him to use a MIDI monitor to see what the HX is transmitting. Freebie here: https://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/
  10. Hi, Happy to help, and it’s good to know you are back in action - both physically and with the audio issue. Remember, you are dealing with a computer and they can be prone to weirdness. This was possibly a small glitch, and sometimes a glitch can be fixed with something as simple as restarting the machine. Have fun!
  11. Yes, type “8611” into the Search option on the main forum page. There are quite a few results that you can check out for a possible solution. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  12. Hi, You are not the first person to ask about this - see the replies here. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  13. Hi, This crops up every once in a while - just type 8212 into the search function on the main page of this forum and see how many hits it returns. IIRC, best guess is this is due to a corrupt preset. Also, when seeking assistance from other users, it’s a great help to know exactly what computer and operating system you are using. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  14. Hmm… interesting first post. It seems we have a necromancer among us! You have posted a question to a user who left a comment way back in 2018. He has only ever made 4 posts, all from that time, so good luck raising this zombie. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  15. Hi, You didn't say if you had used the XR18 previously for recording, because as I understand it the USB port can handle 18 audio channels and 16 MIDI simultaneously, but it does require the specific Window multi-channel driver. It is available from the Behringer product page, if you don't have it installed already. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  16. Hi, Have you checked the your "pre-owned" HXFX is running the latest firmware v.3.71 ? If not, it is strongly recommended that you update, as it not only does it contain extra /new effects, but also many unlisted bug fixes. If it is already on v.3.71, then the usual approach to when things don't appear to be functioning correctly is to perform a Factory Reset to clear out any possible glitches. To reset your unit make a backup of the contents of your HXFX using HX Edit v.3.70, then while turning on the power, hold down FS6 & Tap. When it is fully reset you can then restore all your stuff from the backup you made earlier, and it should go a process of rebuilding the presets. This is normal and it is done to upgrade all your presets to the latest format. Hope this help/ makes sense.
  17. Hi, Clive, Good luck with the op, and best wishes for a swift recovery. Regards.
  18. Hi, Clive. Oh dear what a muddle you are in, my friend. I'm not convinced that this is a Helix Native problem - more likely how your interface is set up. Surely it would be easy enough to check the setting that you used on the other computer. I'm also confused to see what you are using for the Audio Interface, because looking back over your earlier posts, you mentioned that you had a Helix Rack? Anyhow, you must be actually connected to a Steinberg UR22mkII, as there is no such Behringer model (looks like one item that Uli didn't make a clone of). Plus, a quick look at the Acoustica Mixcraft 10 user guide, under the Audio Hardware Setup states:- WINDOWS AUDIO DEVICE FORMATS Type Notes WaveRT The default option. Latency down to 20 milliseconds. WaveRT Exclusive Takes over the computer’s audio, but will work down to three milliseconds of latency. This option is available when WaveRT is selected. Audio from other programs and Windows will not work at the same time that you are in this mode. ASIO Best for playback and recording synchronization. Must have a supported ASIO driver for your sound device. Wave Only use if absolutely necessary. As you can see it clearly says only use Wave if necessary, and it looks like you have that selected. I'm not familiar with Mixcraft, but it does seem that there is a button marked "Default Device Settings". Clicking that would seem like a good idea to me. Try that and see what happens. Also check the Steinberg site to see if there is an updated driver for the UR22. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  19. Hi, Clive, I’m not entirely sure what you are experiencing. Originally, in an earlier post you said you were using Mixcraft on your computer. In this thread you said you were moving to a different computer, which I guess means you will still be using Mixcraft? If that’s the case, then you have to ask yourself what else has changed while moving. If you had it working normally on the other machine, and you have installed both Mixcraft and Native correctly, it should (in theory) just work. I’m a Mac user so this thing with drivers is out of my area, but I do wonder why you feel you would need to mess with them - it could well open another can of worms. Also, your description of the issue is rather vague. You say that your guitar is giving a good signal to your interface. This prompts me ask - what audio interface are you using? You also state that when you open Native in your DAW, there is no signal. O.K., but you don’t say if you can get a guitar signal direct from the AI into a basic track, with no plug-ins? It’s not clear if you have everything working as it should, but lose audio when Native is loaded. Without knowing exactly what is happening, and in what order, without being there to see what’s happening it’s like clutching at straws. More specific info would possibly help. Hope this helps/makes sense. Note: As for the “old man” thing - there are many of us in here that are not that far behind you, so it won’t wash with us ;-)
  20. Hi, You are correct about Helix Native - it is designed to run as plug-in inside a DAW, although some users have managed to get it to function as a “stand alone” within a VST host application. As for if it would be any use to you as bedroom player, the answer is maybe. Consider this - You can hook up your Helix via USB to the DAW of your choice (lots of free ones out there) and record directly into your computer. You would then have the chance to record your fully processed guitar audio without the hassle of have to use your mic’d up amp. No noise, or annoyance others in the house, or picking up the sound of passing traffic, or whatever. Plus you can also record a DI, dry audio signal alongside your processed guitar. Using HX Native as a plug-in then gives you the facility to re-amp and modify your tone. Example if your original “wet audio” has a delay that is slightly out of sync, or a reverb that is too high in the track. Play back the DI through Native and correct whatever is required. In fact you could change the entire signal chain for a completely different take on your track. You now have a home recording studio. There you have it - you’re not stuck with the sound of your amp and single mic being captured into the Zoom. You can change you recording to be any of the available amps, cabs, microphones and effects which you have in your hardware, but in software inside your computer. Imagine - you think you have captured the perfect take into your Zoom, then a couple of days later you wish you didn’t have that flanger switched on the verse. Yep, you’re stuck with it. Not with a DI track that you can reprocess through Native as many times as you wish. As you are the owner of a new Helix you probably qualify for a discount on Helix Native - it’s worth the investment. Having said all this about HX Native, I should point out that everything I mentioned about re-amping is possible using your hardware Helix, to me it just seems that using Native is quicker and more convenient - YMMV! Hope this helps/makes sense.
  21. Hi, This is a peer to peer user forum. There are no Line 6 staff here and only very occasionally do they visit these forums, especially on 4th July - (See the “sticky comment” in the black banner stripe at the top of this page entitled “Welcome to the Line 6 forums”). If you have issues that nobody here can help with then raise a ticket with Customer Support. Hope this helps makes sense.
  22. Hi, I’m a long time user of Line 6 tech, right from the old kidney bean POD, through the POD XT Live and HD500, along with 3 different Variax guitars, so believe me when I say that the Helix is probably the the best piece of gear I have ever bought. The main thing to remember about any of the HX family of products is, they are primarily designed as guitar amp simulation and digital multi-fx units. Anything else that you can press them into doing is a bonus, and coupled with the fact that a full Helix can handle 4 stereo paths with stacks of effects, plus a plethora of ins and outs, lots of people think it is a total solution to their needs. Not necessarily so. It’s easy to be impressed by a YouTube video, showing 4 separate paths of audio processing, all at the same time. The thing is to be totally aware of the limitations of what is being shown. Many, many people work with these devices and utilise the choices available of being able to add other instruments, drum machine or vocals, but it requires a little more thought and planning. Check out the post above from @lou-kash who has had great success with multi-instrument setups using the HX Stomp. It’s amazing how many folks have posted in here to complain about the built in looper. It’s not in there as a full blown performance looping solution for all occasions. Once again, Line 6 provided Send/Return FX loops for users to patch in their looping weapon of choice. For example I have various dedicated loopers for specific reasons - the BOSS RC-30, a Ditto X4 and a couple of others which do what I need. Prior to firmware v.3.15 which added stereo shimmer reverb, I used an external reverb with a shimmer and reverse reverb to suit my needs. Essentially, what comes down to is - the Helix is amazing, but it cannot be all be all things to all men - don’t think of the Helix as a one stop solution. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  23. HI, again Clive, When seeking assistance from other users it is generally a great help to know what your Computer Specification, Operating System and DAW are. Anyhow from your previous posts, as I understand it you are running Windows with Acoustica MIxcraft, but that may have changed. You don't appear to be having very much luck with this stuff. I will direct you to this information as to where it has should have been installed. Hope this helps/makes sense.
  24. Hi, again, Please find attached 4Path Helix.hlx This is Helix preset created using the items that you mentioned in your last post. I did say that this stuff takes a bit of thought and couple of things came to mind following on from your original post and how this has now evolved. Your latest concept for a preset now appears to include a DigiTech Drop - O.K. you would need to use this in an FX Loop, because although Helix contains several poly pitch shifting options, these are the items that will guzzle your DSP. Therefore if you specifically need this effect it's probably less hassle to patch into an outboard hardware unit. Note - Poly Pitch shifting is possibly best when placed first in the signal chain. The second thing that would require some more checking is the idea of sticking the BOSS VE-5 into an FX Loop. As I understand it, the VE-5 expects a mic level (-40dBu) input on an XLR or TRS Jack. In fact, the Owner's Manual specifically states: "Do not connect the output of an effects processor or similar device to the MIC IN jack." The Helix FX loop can be set to either Instrument or Line level therefore you would need to use a DI Box, or similar, to match the input needed or you might introduce distortion or even damage your VE. The output form the VE is also on XLR (-40dBu), and again this could probably be managed with a DI box. It also has a 48v Phantom Power available (likewise the Helix), be very carefully with Phantom Power as it is very easy to damage your equipment. Oh, yeah, the Guitar and Aux inputs may need to be played around with as the Guitar Input impedance can be managed either automatically, or manually, whereas the Aux Input is set on 10kOhm, and is generally used for active pickups. I also note that you have opted to use the Courtesan Flange and Simple delay before the Mandarin amp. Hmm... I would generally recommend that time based effects such as these are placed after the amp (& cab), especially one that can be as driven as the Mandarin, but hey each to their own, and there are no rules in the digital realm, whatever works for you. Hope this helps/makes sense. This stuff seem quite simple enough when you get the original idea, but there is usually quite a bit more involved.
  25. Hi, I also used HX Native to double check the “4Path LT.hlx” preset before uploading here, and I didn’t experience any “running out of power” on the vocal path. The only things that don’t show up in Native are the physical Send/Return ins and outs as Native is purely software. As you have already realised, you cannot patch in the BOSS VE-5, due to lack of input options. I very quickly put together that example preset as a “proof of concept”, which was essentially to show how this could function at an absolute bare minimum. I didn’t even touch on “Snapshots” and assigning Stomps to Foot Switches. The blocks I used to construct the preset actually do create the signal flow you suggested, BUT if you went in to change any of them to one you particularly like, you could find that you very swiftly run out of DSP, and the whole house of cards comes tumbling down. Having looked at it once more, it would be possible to remove the second amp on path 1B by moving the split to between the amp and cab on path 1A, but that would only slightly help out on the DSP working on those paths. Your original idea simply lists generic amp and fx block, whereas specifying each model could give a result that may not work at all. As I mentioned previously, things like these require a lot of forethought, and planning. If you have the 15 day demo version of Helix Native, set it on the Helix compatibility mode and play around with creating some of your ideal setups and see how far you can push it before it tips over the edge. There is no substitute for real life testing. Furthermore, good luck with finding someone in South Korea willing to assist, but please understand- a couple of hours will not even scratch the surface of trying to get to grips with a Helix, especially if you have no prior knowledge of working with one. If you’re lucky, a couple of days, or weeks, if not, a couple of months, or even years. I have been using my Helix since late 2015 and still surprise myself with things it can do, and even after all this time I’m really happy that those nice people at Line 6 added all those physical Send/Return options so I can patch in some of my external hardware that does things that are still not yet available in the Helix. Use the correct tool for the job, as sometime that small Swiss Army knife is not quite up to skinning the cat. Hope this helps/makes sense.
