  1. Can you provide details of your setup? How are you monitoring your sound? What Output Mode are you using on your Pod HD? What are your input settings? The Pod HD really is capable of producing great tones. Many users find that it takes a good deal of time getting used to it. Based on the sounds you are getting I suspect the problems may be related to setup and settings issues. If you can provide details maybe we can help you find the tones you want.
  2. Check the Line 6 Audio-MIDI Devices control panel (or sysprefs in Mac). There's a slider that can adjust the hardware monitoring level (I think it's called). It's intended to help balance levels between the device and your computer.
  3. They will work fine. I use a different brand of 5" studio monitors. Like GTLazer says, set your HD Pro outs to Line level. Also - I would avoid connecting a bass guitar to the HD Pro. The 5" speaker could easily blow with the low bass frequencies.
  4. This sounds to me like a hardware problem - either power related (failing PSU?) or an overheating part inside. The first step would be to test/replace the power supply unit. Make sure you use one that matches these specs exactly: https://www.globalfulfillment.net/gfsnet/line6/10Expand.aspx?ProductCode=98-030-0042-05 If a new power supply doesn't fix things then I think you need to take it in for servicing: http://line6.com/service_centers/
  5. I think you are talking about assigning patches - not FX - to the footswitches. You don't need to assign them; you need to use FS Mode ABCD (see Setup menu page 1). By doing this, FS5 through FS8 (which are also labelled A/B/C/D) are assigned to access presets A through D in the current bank of presets. For instance, having selected a preset in Bank 1, the footswitches will move you among presets 1A through 1D.
  6. In your Win8 control panel check your audio settings. Set the HD500 to be your default audio card for your Windows - not only for SONAR..
  7. Yes - I use a 64GB Class 10 SD card. As stated, you need to format it properly.
  8. Try this: http://line6.com/data/6/0a06434d12155507f39d011ad3/application/pdf/M5%20Pilot%27s%20Handbook%20-%20English%20(%20Rev%20B%20).pdf
  9. Try recalibrating your pedal. http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/effects/pod/pod-hd/pod-hd500xhd500-pedal-calibration-r161
  10. Check the panning in the X3L Direct Outputs page to make sure its centered properly.
  11. Usually the only time you use Studio/Direct is when you are going direct to a PA/mixer. If your output goes to a guitar amp you want to use the Live mode that is closest to your amp (stack pwr, combo front, ...)
  12. Me too - Earvana nut. I had my intonation set up professionally with the nut installation, and since then I use the HD500 tuner.
  13. You can easily use a mic with the Pod HD Pro. Connect the mic, select it as an Input in the HD Pro preset, adjust the Mic Trim knob, and apply whatever FX you want to the signal chain. Save the preset. When you need to make a speech just select that preset on the HD Pro. If you are using a condenser mic make sure you activate the phantom power on the HD Pro.
  14. I believe this is an acknowledged bug in the Edit program. Could be wrong about this - my memory may be faulty but I think I recall this being reported before. Perhaps other users can correct or confirm this. I suggest you report it as a bug by opening a support ticket. This will help Line 6 prioritize this item as something that needs fixing.
  15. You would select the PRE (rather than the FULL) model of the amp. The PRE model does not include cab/mic simulations.
  16. The drag/drop works perfectly for HD500 to HD500x. While HD Pro presets can be dragged/dropped you will still need to tweak the Inputs to get them correct. The conversion utility takes care of this for you.
  17. Yes - the Pod HD Pro tones are directly compatible. The HD500 tones are compatible after being translated by this utility (thanks jzab): http://www.jzab.de/content/pod-hd
  18. I regularly use a Variax 300 with a Pod HD and Studio/Direct out to a PA. The interaction between the HD500 and the DT amp is independent of the interaction between the Vax and the Pod. The Variax 300 and the Pod HD work very well together in terms of storing/switching Variax settings within the Pod HD preset. Like Zap says, the Pod/JTV combination offers more in terms of Variax control using the Pod, but as far as the technology allows the Variax 300 works perfectly for me with the Pod HD.
  19. What version of Workbench are you using? The latest version (Workbench HD) only works with JTV guitars.
  20. There are no new amps with the prox. It has the same amps as the pro.
  21. That's right. And there could easily be more than that from now to Q1. In fact, it could be never............ ;) ....... and I'll still be very happy that my HD500 is now even better than when I bought it. And I thought my money was well spent way back then.
  22. There is inevitably a lag of a fraction of a second while the device loads a new preset. This is usually not very noticeable, but it is there. There is a more noticeable lag when connected via usb to your computer and running the editor. If you are connected when noticing this, just disconnect.
  23. You have Tone 2 Locked. See your Home page display in the video? The padlock icon in the bottom row of the display shows that Tone 2 is locked. Turn the little black knob beneath it until the icon shows unlocked.
  24. Here is a preset I created some time ago that may be helpful as an illustration of the required dual-path setup. http://line6.com/customtone/tone/217206 It was created to provide simultaneous recording of the wet and dry signal from an HD500, but for your purposes the setup is what matters. It uses two inputs, keeps the signals completely separate as they are process independently in the two paths, and directs the outputs separately to L and R channels. Try experimenting with this setup, changing the inputs and amp/FX selections as you wish in each path. Do not change the signal flow setup; in particular, do not move any FX into the pre-path split position and do not adjust the mixer panning. Hope this helps.
